In 1953, with timpani and trumpets a la Marseillaise, a French piece of music once again captured public attention (Eurovision Hymn) and a composer was rediscovered: the first recording of Marc-Antoine Charpentier's Te Deum H 146 was released. The introductory fanfare not only praised God but the Sun King Louis XIV, and it opens one of the greatest works of French Baroque music. Magnificent celebration and ardent pleading, effective choruses, arias and small ensembles, plus instrumental interludes combine to create a harmonious whole, drawing its higher meaning from Charpentier's musical-theological interpretation of the Latin hymn of praise that it is based on. Score available separately - see item CA.2103200.

Anton Bruckner's Te Deum - a high point in the composer's output and one of the most important works of the sacred choral repertoire in the 19th century - is now available in a modern, scholarly edition. The Carus edition draws on both the two sources regarded as important, the autograph score and the first printed edition, with careful consideration given to variant readings. And so a music text has been prepared which reflects the composer's intentions as closely as possible. Great emphasis has been placed on a clear-to-read layout of the full score pages, as well as excellent legibility for the parts, which are available on sale. With current performance practice in mind, the clarinet parts are notated in B flat instead of A, corresponding with the first printed edition. The vocal score has been newly prepared to reflect current practical requirements. As an economical alternative, a chorus score is available. Bruckner's Te Deum is also available in carus music, the choir app. The app contains the music and a recording, as well as a coach to help with learning each choral part. In preparation: arrangement of the Te Deum for soli, choir, brass quintet and organ. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2719000.

Handel's Utrecht Te Deum HWV 278 enthralled London audiences right from its first performance, and it continues to do so today in concert halls and churches all over the world. It was performed for the first time in a festive service on 13 July 1713 in St. Paul's Cathedral to celebrate the Peace marking the end of the twelve year-long War of the Spanish Succession in 1713. The Te Deum was the first commission by the English royal house and was also Handel's first sacred work in the English language. For Handel the Utrecht Te Deum was an important milestone at the beginning of his London career. The composition brought him an annual pension from Queen Anne and helped him to establish himself as a composer of prestigious music for the English royal family. Four further settings of the Ambrosian hymn of praise by Handel followed, including the equally popular Dettingen Te Deum (Carus 55.238). The six soloists required can in practice be reduced to four, and the Te Deum does not contain any stand-alone arias. The chorus is scored in five parts in a few movements (SSATB), with the concluding doxology beginning in double-choir scoring (SST/AATB). For this frequently-performed work Carus offers a musical text reflecting the latest scholarly discoveries. The Critical Report contains information on all the important facts about the work in a practicable, compact form. A detailed foreword contains insights into the creation of the work and its reception. The vocal score, chorus score, and orchestral parts provide for the needs of practical performance; these are complemented by carus music, the choir app for practising the choral parts, as well as the Carus Choir Coach practice CDs and a Vocal Score XL in reader-friendly large print.

In the 19th and early 20th centuries, transcriptions of large (choral) symphonic works for two pianos were extremely popular: They enabled a large audience to get to know classical compositions in an age before recorded music. In many cases, world-famous works were first performed in such a version â?? including Brucknerâ??s Te Deum. Unfortunately, only a few bars of this transcription have survived. The Stuttgart composer, pianist and experienced piano-duo performer Sebastian Bartmann was commissioned by the Landesakademie für die musizierende Jugend in Baden-Württemberg Ochsenhausen to newly arrange Brucknerâ??s Te Deum and the Mass in D minor for soloists, choir and two pianos. A timpani part (ad libitum) provides additional color. The arrangements are based on the original Carus editions. The vocal scores and choral scores of the original version can also be used.Today the Te Deum is Brucknerâ??s most frequently performed vocal work. The greatest challenges for any choir are the high register and the enormous orchestration of this extremely effective piece: The singers are often required to declaim against a large orchestra performing forte fortissimo! This problem is resolved in the arrangement for two pianos; moreover, the scaling back of the sonic forces helps reveal compositional structures that otherwise can all too easily get lost in the intoxicating orchestral sound.. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.2719000.

St. Cecilia's Day was celebrated in England during Restoration times with a great festival of music. The soloists were among the best singers of the day, and their music was deliberately florid to show their virtuosity. It is in this tradition that Purcell wrote his festal ,Te Deum and Jubilate'. It was composed for St. Cecilia's Day, 1694, and shows the same ornate style as he odes composed in previous years. It was the grand manner which assured the popularity of the work. After the initial performance, it was given annually on St. Cecilia's day for many years. This fame ensured that the work was printed in score. The present edition has been prepared from the second edition, a copy of which is now in the possession of Glasgow University.(Denis Arnold) Die einzige bekannte Quelle befindet sich in Heft 66 von Band 25 der Meslanges-Autographen die an die Bibliotheque Royale (heute Bibliotheque Nationale) Paris verkauft wurde.
