rw? 3 by Mark Andre is a contemporary work for Ensemble which is part of a four-part cycle. The word rw? (pronounced rúach) comes from Aramaic and covers a whole field of words: wind, breath, soul, spirit. In the Bible it stands for 'Holy Spirit'. In his cycle, the French composer and sound researcher Mark Andre makes this 'holy' breath concretely and existentially tangible. rw? 3 was commissioned by Ensemble Modern for their 40th anniversary. The complete cycle was first performed on 15 May 2022 at the KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen, Hannover by more than 200 singers and Ensemble Modern, conducted by Ingo Metzmacher.

Since 2001 the Ninth has been included in UNESCO's Memory of the World Register. Beethoven was preoccupied with his unique work for many years, since at least 1815, and still shortly before his death, according to the highly complex source situation. The work will now finally be available as an edition produced from the new Beethoven Complete Edition in time for the 2020 anniversary year commemorating the composer's 250th birthday. Not all doubtful cases can be clarified, not all gaps closed, but numerous aspects have been further illuminated in this edition. New findings and source evaluations taken into account here, appear, for instance, pertaining to the work's title, the tradition of the metronome indications, the contrabassoon part, and the underlying vocal text in the finale, as well as in the original rendering of the sforzato and forte markings. The edition is to be considered, according to its editor Beate Angelika Kraus, as a contribution to the understanding of a work in which there is a discrepancy between its significance in musical life and the critical appreciation of its musical text..

Translated from Gaelic as “Eternal September,” this marvelous setting for band is designed to take each listener back to their own vivid fall memories on a college campus. Commissioned by the University of Notre Dame and premiered at their Carnegie Hall performance in 2010, this work is also dedicated to the composer's father, Dr. Samuel J. Hazo, a 1949 graduate of Notre Dame. Additionally, Dr. Hazo's poem “Home Are the Sailors” is incorporated in the middle of the piece. Rich in musical references and varied textures, this is a dramatic and rewarding work for mature ensembles. Duration: c. 5:30.

Now they began to play. To my greatest surprise, it was a strong, full orchestra, outstandingly rehearsed, the tempi nearly all perfect, everything neat and well executed. My God, how I was moved to hear basically for the first time something of mine being played without me, and without anyone really paying much attention to me. And now this very piece, the Tannhauser Overture! I sat there plagued by an indescribable inner agitation - : unfortunately, I was being sharply observed by the public, which had taken note of this; yet I noticed nothing of all this, and burst into a river of beneficial tears. (...) At the close, the wild applause of the public that had no idea about what they had just witnessed The conductor and the entire orchestra turned towards me and cheered and applauded so much that I had to stand and thank them...(Richard Wagner from Strasbourg to his wife Minna on 15 January 1858).

Robinson's TBB arrangement of this beloved Bennett madrigal, originally published for four voices in 1599, has been changed from the original key of A minor to the key of D minor, making the ranges and texture more characteristic for TBB voices. A wonderful concert or festival staple piece!.Weep, O Mine Eyes is a classic madrigal from the Renaissance period (circa 1400-1650). Although John Bennet's exact birth and death dates are unknown, we know that he was English and composed madrigals (non-sacred a cappella pieces) in the late 16th - early 17th centuries. Although, Bennet was not as prolific as other madrigal writers of the time, such as Thomas Morley, Weep, O Mine Eyes has certainly stood the test of time. Originally published in a book of 17 madrigals for four voices in 1599, this arrangement for TBB voices has been changed from the original key of A minor to the key of D minor, making the ranges and texture more characteristic for TBB voices. The original flavor of Bennet's four-part setting has been preserved, including the counterpoint (independent voices) where each voice is of equal importance. In Renaissance style no parts should over sing; the beauty of the melodic lines and text should come through and over singing will take away from the beauty. The EE vowel is sometimes problematic in the word weep. I suggest that you produce the EE vowel with OO on the lips and EE inside the mouth for better blend and to avoid a horizontal spreading of the vowel. The wind carries away the yellow leaves fallen on the pavement, the cafes put tables and chairs in... I evoke here a fall tour that is difficult to do quietly in Paris. How to take your time in this city with so many streets to cross (musical phrases of 3 measures), cars or buses to avoid (musical phrases starts on the second time). While the chestnut vendors are on subway entrances, how not to hurry like others (theme B) to 'catch' the subway...
