John's arrangement of this jazz classic was written specifically to feature Milt Jackson with the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra; however just about any instrument can play the head at the beginning of the chart. The fullensemble shout chorus at the end is a standout!

There's always time for the blues. This original by John Clayton (and recorded by the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra on “Heart and Soul”) is set in a bluesy and relaxed tempo and provides lots of room for soloists to“holler” at each other. After the opening conversation between two trumpets the sax section lays down the main theme followed by answers provided by the brass. Solos for tenor alto trombone piano follow andfinally the full band takes us the rest of the way. This is a great chart to settle back on and just swing!
