Regarded as the greatest Spanish composer of the 20th century Manuel De Falla (1876-1946) had a distinctively nationalistic style.Cantares De Nochebuena was written c.1903 making it one of his earlier works. It is a collection and arrangement of 9 traditional folksongs for Christmas Eve originally from the Andalusian region of southern Spain. They were probably gathered in the city of Cadiz.The songs are scored for solo Voice and Guitar. Since that time, music students the world over have studied the chorales as a paragon of 'common practice' harmony and voice leading. And by virtue of their sublime beauty, musicians continue to perform the chorales to this day. The four-part texture of the chorales can make their performance on guitar ? with its fingering limitations ? somewhat problematic.
