MusicWorks ? Grade 3Drawing its title from the Greek word for ?motion? this marvelously paced work from Michael Sweeney explores various forms of motion within the concert band setting. The fanfare-likeopening uses interplay between the brass percussion and woodwinds and is followed by a driving main theme. The ?slow motion? middle section uses a striking harmonic scheme stated first by the woodwinds and someunusual orchestration devices before returning to an expanded version of the main theme and dramatic ending. This rewarding and fresh-sounding composition will leave a lasting impression on players and listeners alike. (5:50)

Centenary 2019 is a three-movement suite based on a local folksong and was commissioned by Chr. Fanfare De Lofstem, from the Dutch province of Friesland, on the occasion of its 100th anniversary in 2019. ?Awakening Village?, the first movement, musically describes the waking up and coming to life of the village. ?Bintje Monument? was inspired by a famous sculpture that was placed to honour headmaster Kornelis Lieuwes de Vries (1854-1929) who developed the well-known potato variety called ?bintje?. The finale, ?Journey into the Unknown? refers to the band?s memorable 2011 concert trip to the United States of America, in which the composer combines elements of the folksong and fragments from ?The Star-Spangled Banner?. The piece consists of a wide range of playful and melodic sequences as well as some galvanizing rhythmical passages.

This breathtaking arrangement of Shenandoah was created at the request of well-known 'Pops' conductor Michael Krajewski and was premiered in late summer 2004 by the Houston Symphony Orchestra. This new setting for band makes a stunning addition to any concert program. Numerous soloists are featured in this sweeping lyric setting of the famous folksong melody with a panoramic 'Americana' feel. This would make a worthy addition to any Pops program and can be played effectively in an outdoor setting.

Audivi Media Nocte is based on the eponymous motet by Thomas Tallis from the 16th Century - a work that holds great fascination for Oliver Waespi.
