Par VIVALDI ANTONIO. Throughout his life, Antonio Vivaldi wrote almost thirty instrumental works that use the cello as a solo instrument. Vivaldi knew how to tailor his music to the cello and in doing so, helped to establish this still young instrument in the music of that time. The Concerto RV 531 is the only double concerto in Vivaldi?s ?uvre for two solo violoncellos. The two solo parts take centre stage with virtuosic passages but lie on the instrument so well that they can be comfortably mastered by advanced students. The edition is based on the careful evaluation of Vivaldi?s autograph score which is the main source and several inconsistencies found in previous editions have been clarified. At the same time the edition allows for a flexible realisation of this concerto: it can be performed by a full tutti orchestra or by one performer per part. The study of string instruments should include ensemble playing at the earliest possible stage. There is much to be gained from the playing of duets. Each player learns how to listen to the other, and in a short time develops an awareness of balance, musical phrasing, intonation, and tone quality. This type of training is excellent preparation for participation in large groups. These four volumes of duets for two violins will help fill the need for early ensemble experience in the public schools. They should be used in string classes as a supplement to any of the standard string methods. They will also encourage music making outside of the school, with parents or with other students. These duets are ideal for recitals in the public schools and in public school festivals. They may be played by two performers, or by multiple performers on each part, with or without piano accompaniment.

This arrangement was written in Offenbach's anniversary year 2019 for the highly acclaimed CD (Sony) of the young star soloist Raphaela Gromes with chamber music for cello, the instrument the composer loved and played like none other. In addition to unknown, sometimes virtuoso, sometimes contemplative new discoveries, the album should not be without the master's hit melody: Barcarolle from The Tales of Hoffmann, which begins with the immortal cello solo. And so Gromes' piano partner Julian Riem created this delightful new version for two cellos and piano especially for this CD. For String Sextet (2 Violins 2 Violas 2 Cellos Bass) set of parts.Mozart?s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola K. 364 (320d) is his only complete surviving work in this genre. He wrote it in 1779 after returning from Paris and Mannheim.For two decades it was known only in a few copyists? manuscripts. The first edition did not appear until 1802. The work achieved great popularity that same year particularly the arrangements for Piano four-hands and Piano trio.This arrangement for String Sextet dating from 1808 is interesting not only for its unusual scoring but also for the way the two concertante instrumentsinteract with the other strings.This edition revives this arrangement after almost two centuries drawing primarily on the sole surviving source: the first edition in parts published by the Vienna Stamperia Chimica in 1808.The editor Christopher Hogwood recounts the history of the work and the particulars of the arrangement in a trilingual preface (Eng ./ Ger./ Cz .) and a critical report.
