J.S. Bach's four Orchestral Suites belong to that select group of works one could truly call classical hits! They stem from Bach's extremely productive time in Cöthen which ended in 1721.Unfortunately the only sources that have come down to us are copyist parts from Leipzig . These originally formed the basis for the critical complete edition volume which was published in 1967 as part of the ' New Bach Edition? .At that time Bärenreiter also issued separate scores and parts which however were prepared with additional articulation and performance suggestions. Bärenreiter's new edition of Bach's great four suites now presents the Urtext as found in the ' New Bach Edition? i.e. without emendations and performance suggestions. Bach: Complete Organ Works Vol. 5 Sonatas / Trios / Concertos - ed. by Pieter Dirksen Organ Works Based on Compositions by Bach and Others Genres such as sonata, trio and concerto were initially uncommon in the keyboard music of the early 18th century. Thus it comes as no surprise that many of the pieces in this volume are arrangements by Bach of original compositions and of works by other composers. Next to the Sonatas BWV 525?530 and the Concertos or concerto movements based on pieces by other composers BWV 592?596, the volume also contains the Trio in D minor BWV 583, the Trio settings BWV 585?587 as well as the early versions of BWV 527 and 528. Moreover, the CD-ROM offers eight arrangements of trio movements by Bach made by others. In his detailed introduction, Pieter Dirksen discusses various aspects of these pieces' origins, inasmuch as they help us better understand the works. The organist will especially welcome the comments on performance practice and registration. Bach: Complete Organ Works Vol. 1 Preludes and Fugues I - with CD-ROM - ed. by David Schulenberg As close as possible to Bach In his ?Preludes and Fugues,? Johann Sebastian Bach made decisive contributions to the development of this genre tradition. The importance of this work group in his own organ oeuvre is confirmed by the many transmitted sources: hardly any autographs, but all the more copies. The genesis of the works and the question of versions associated with it are described at length in the introduction. In his new edition, editor David Schulenberg occasionally makes a new evaluation of the transmitted sources. To do so, he based himself as faithfully as possible on the manuscripts that can be traced back to Bach or to his circle. Here the American Bach expert generally chooses one source as his principal one. Divergences from other sources are documented in the Commentary. On the whole, the new Urtext edition sometimes also emends some long-cherished readings of ornaments, voice leading and notation. Also printed in Volume 1 is, for example, the early version of the C major Prelude BWV 545 as well as the inserted Trio movement of the three-movement version of this work. As with the previously published volumes, the CD-ROM enclosed in Volumes 1 and 2 contains dubious works and secondary versions for comparison with the principal versions. This time, the CD-ROMs are completely in German and English and feature the English version of the Commentary.

Hans Bischoff (1852--1889) was a German concert pianist and well-regarded music editor, who continues to be respected for his thorough research, attention to detail, and careful consideration of source materials. Sonatas Wq 71-74 BWV 1036 Violinsonaten nach den Trios Wq 143-147-Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's works for Violin and Harpsichord obbligato pervade his entire compositional oeuvre. The earliest works like the Sonata in D minor still numbered BWV 1036 date back to the years of study with his father yet show already a remarkable creative will of his own. The latest work the fantasia 'C. P. E. Bachs Empfindungen' in F flat minor of 1787 is characterized by the composer's highly expressive late style. The new two-volume edition of Wiener Urtext Edition contains C. P. E. Bach's complete works for Harpsichord (Piano) obbligato and Violin. Vol. 1 contains not only the sonatas Wq 71–74 and BWV 1036 but alsothe arrangements of the trios Wq 143–145 for Violin and Harpsichord most of which are included in C. P. E. Bach's autographs as well as a – previously ignored – early version of Wq 71 which like BWV 1036 grants a rare insight into the early works of the composer. Vol. 2 contains the four major sonatas of 1763 which already fascinated Johannes Brahms. Brahms not only played them in concert together with Joseph Hellmesberger but also published two of these sonatas in 1864.
