According to Rautavaara it was a pity to leave the melancholy, moonlit songs of his opera Rasputin to languish within the confines of the opera. He therefore arranged the set of unabashedly sentimental and thoroughly melodic pieces, first for male choir, and in 2012 for mixed choir. Texts both in English and in Finnish.

ISBN 9781491137642. UPC: 680160691098. The Garden of the Finzi-Continis novel by Giorgio Bassani.
Based on Bassani’s 1962 novel, THE GARDEN OF THE FINZI-CONTINIS dramatizes the true story of a prosperous Jewish family’s disruptions and consequences from state-mandated antisemitism in Italy during World War II. Gordon describes the opera as “romantic, sun-drenched, and cataclysmic, all at the same time.” This dramatically topical and personal grand opera premiered at New York City Opera and National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene to rave reviews in 2022. Chris Ruel wrote in OperaWire, “I have chosen Ricky Ian Gordon and Michael Korie’s THE GARDEN OF THE FINZI-CONTINIS as my favorite opera of 2022.”.At one point, in 2008, I was walking down 72nd Street, and I passed the video store, (this is when there were video stores) and I thought to myself, I wonder if Kevin (my partner) has ever seen The Garden of the Finzi-Continis? which was always one of my favorite movies. My reaction when we watched it that night was unlike any other time I had seen it. I was wrenched, sobbing, inconsolable. My heart felt like the autumn leaves we see blowing through the garden at the end of the movie. It seemed immediately that this had to be my next opera. I called Michael Korie, and we both bought the Bassani novel and read it. We settled on it. It felt clear that we both had a collective story to tell through it.Because this opera is so close to both of our hearts, it is dedicated to our fathers. It is not only that The Garden of the Finzi-Continis is a Holocaust story that makes it so resonant for me, though obviously this is no small matter, but the tragedy of people trying to live their lives, or actually living them, their petty disappointments, their heartbreaks, against the backdrop of total catastrophe… that makes it so moving. They cannot possibly imagine what will befall them, but we know… and this makes their every move fascinating and devastating… like watching moths under a glass. It is romantic, sun-drenched and cataclysmic, all at the same time. This is why I had to write it.

In 1734 Handel provided the pasticcio “ Oreste †for his third operatic enterprise which, following the bankruptcy of the Royal Academy and its successor academy, felt threatened by competition from the newly-founded Opera of the Nobility. Hence, the composer did not compile the work from favourite movements from his own and other composer's pieces as was usual at that time; rather in “ Oreste †he presented a selection of the most beautiful arias and ensembles exclusively from his own operas. In addition, he expanded the ballet and choral scenes which he thought would make a great impact after the move into the newly built Covent Garden Theatre. As most of the singers in his Italian company had been enticed away by the competition, Handel increasingly began to engage English virtuosi. He probably even worked on the new version of the libretto himself in order to place the new stars in the limelight to the best effect. The new vocal score is based on Volume 1 of the Supplement to Series II of the “Halle Handel†Edition edited by Bernd Baselt .

The opera Nais received its premiere at the Academie Royale in the Palais-Royal, Paris, on 22 April 22 1749 to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle. It was revived in August 1764, shortly before Rameau's death and achieved great success as a 'peace opera'. This scholarly-critical edition, published by Pascal Denecheau in theOpera Omnia Rameau, is the fruit of a meticulous comparison of every known musical source. The main body of the edition presents the version pronounced valid by Rameau for the 1749 performances. The appendices contain those passages that he deleted during the 1749 rehearsals and all the changes he made for the new production of 1764. It is here, and especially in the ballets, that Rameau reveals his consummate mastery of the orchestra.
