Arrangement for Piano-Aside from the Violin Chaconne (HN 557) and the ten Choral...(+)
Arrangement for Piano-Aside from the Violin Chaconne (HN 557) and the ten Chorale Preludes for Organ (HN 1293) the Prelude and Fugue in D major ranks among the best-known Piano transcriptions Busoni fashioned from J. S. Bach?s works. Considerable evidence suggests that he viewed these three pieces as paradigmatic examples of his transcription technique. Busoni?s explicit labelling of the Prelude and Fugue ?for concert performance? in the title already serves as an indication of the heightened virtuosic requirements. And indeed here Busoni demands that the pianist have perfectly mastered the keyboard always with the aim of delegating to the Piano effectively but still in the spirit of Bach the mighty sound-world of the Organ work. This Urtext edition is heartily recommended to all those pianists who have ever wanted finally to pull out all the stops on the Piano.

24 Pieces For Piano. Par WOLF PETER E.. Péter Wolf (a doctoral graduate of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest) has composed a number of large-scale compositions in recent years which have had success at the hands of distinguished performers: these include two piano concertos as well as concertos for oboe, clarinet, and violin. By entitling his newest set of pieces for piano Wolf-temperiertes Klavier, the composer was able to simultaneously indulge in wordplay based upon his surname and give a tip of the hat to German baroque master Johann Sebastian Bach. The work's likeness to Bach is not limited to its title - the manner in which a piece has been written in both major and minor keys for each tone of the chromatic scale is blatantly inspired by Bach. In the preface to this publication, Wolf offers the following insights: ''I think I managed to find expressive titles. The first piece, Epiclesis (a prayer for inspiration, patience, and support), was heard from above: I was able to work continuously and without inhibitions. The works could be born in every key, until the last one, the Epilogue, was completed. When I finally finished inscribing the pitches of Bach's name, I admit, a little shiver went through me.'' Of the character pieces, all were completely new with the exceptions of one being previously written and another whose theme Wolf borrowed from one of his own stage works. Wolf-temperiertes Klavier is recommended for advanced pianists who wish to push the boundaries between musical genres, as well as classical musicians interested in the harmonic language of jazz. / Niveau : Intermédiaire à Avancé / Musique contemporaine / Répertoire / Piano

Alla Turca Jazz: Piano:
Instrumental Work Piano solo - Easy Schott
The final movement of the Sonata in A major KV 331 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart t...(+)
The final movement of the Sonata in A major KV 331 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart the Rondo Alla Turca is one of the most famous piano pieces of all time. Once only familiar to musical experts later a universal piece for all piano pupils its opening melody is now even omnipresent as an alienated sinus tone-like mobile phone ring tone. Fazıl Say's arrangement originally created as an effective encore follows on from this popularity. After the first eight bars have been presented in original form typical elements of jazz superimposed on the still recognisable classical foundations can be discovered such as syncopation of the top notes andornamentation through chromatic blue notes embedded in the at times frenzied chains of semiquavers. In the spirit of the work's improvisatory character Say likes to perfom his Alla Turca Jazz in different combinations for example accompanied by jazz singers of with orchestra. It may appear strange that Fazıl Say who was born in Turkey and - when not on tour - is still resident in that country does not bring back Mozart's interpretation of genuine Turkish music closer to its own roots particularly as many of his compositions such as Black Earth or the Violin Sonata are characterised by a subtle amalgamation of the Classical-Romantic tradition Turkish folk music and elements of jazz. In a further Mozart arrangement the ballet music Patara premiered in Vienna in 2006 composed on the basis of the Rococo-like theme from the first movement of the same A-major Sonata (wich enjoys almost as great popularity as the Alla Turca theme) Say utilised the connection which was absent in Alla Turca albeit in the opposite direction. In the ballet music the piano symbolises Western culture and the Ney flute Oriental culture communcated atmosperically by austere percussion instrumentation and soprano vocalisation.

Cyril Scott was an English composer writer and poet. He was essentially a late romantic composer whose style was at the same time strongly influenced by impressionism. His harmony was notably exotic. Scott wrote around four hundred works which include two mature symphonies three operas three Piano concertos concertos for Violin Cello Oboe and Harpsichord several overtures four oratorios as well as a mass of chamber music.Between 1903 and 1920 Scott wrote copiously for the Piano. Most of these pieces were harmonically adventurous for their time and easy to play; they circulated widely in manycountries of the world.A Little Russian Suite for Piano was composed during this period. This complete edition includes all three movements (Russian Air Siberian Waltz Dance) which can either be played separately or together as a suite.Performance time of the whole suite is approximately 6 minutes.

Sir Edward Elgar was born in Worcester in 1857. Until the outstanding success of the 'Enigma' Variations in 1899 he was considered a 'provincial' composer - and a largely self taught one at that.In the earlier part of Elgar's career as a composer he wrote several short pieces which became very popular indeed. Chanson de Matin is one such the second of a pair (the other being Chanson de Nuit) which carried his name far and wide before his larger orchestra works appeared. It was published in several versions at once: for string orchestra for small orchestra for violin and piano and so on - so it is almost impossible to say with any degree of certainty which was theoriginal version. This arrangement makes a useful addition to the repertoire for piano.

14 famous classical pieces, original version + jazzy arrangement Instrument : piano Type : edition with CD Nombre de Pages : 80 14 famous themes from music history, from Bach to Offenbach, each with its own jazzy interpretation - just as in Vol. 1. This edition shows that 'classical music' and jazz are not that distant from one another after all. Just imagine Grieg's Piano Concerto played on a bandoneon - and you have got the perfect tango! Brahms' Hungarian Dance No. 1 is also ideal as a salsa ('Hungarian Salsa No.1'). Schubert's trout suffers a terrible fate, here it may continue to live in a lively ragtime ('Fish Rag'). With Mozart, the night is merry and friendly. but 'A Black Night Music' shows its dark side. The accompanying CD provides examples and suggestions as to how all of these pieces can be interpreted. Fragment I-IV was composed between 1959 and 1961. I premiered the piece myself on February 12 1962 at a concert where Fragment V for violin and piano and Fragment VI for six orchestra groups were also performed. The four piano pieces contain the first audible results of my preoccupation with the fractal “infinity series” discovered in 1959. “Fractal” designates the property of for example visual form patterns that appear in a process of infinite “microscoping” where the figures reappear for the spectator in constantly enlarged segments of the original fractal form. In much the same way thescore-reader as well as the listener can follow how in for example Fragment III the six notes of the first measure reappear in a much slower figure an octave lower in the left hand (that only manages to get through these six notes in the course of the entire movement) analogous to the zooming-in on a visual fractal form. Each Fragment has its own defining appearance: Fragment I consists of two staccato melodies (with built-in rests) that are tied to a distinct third melody. Fragment II stammers and stutters its way through various shorter note values that are almost identical to boot (for instance they include isolated triplet notes that come immediately before or after notes of another equally short duration). Great demands are thus made on the pianist’s scrupulous attention to the details of this fine-grained universe of rhythms! Of the four pieces Fragment III offers the most directly accessible demonstration of this composition technique – as mentioned above its opening measure fractally projects itself six times as slowly and an octave lower in the left hand through the rest of the movement. Fragment IV is a kind of shadow that reproduces – in a vague “dreaming” manner – all the melodic notes from Fragment III but

| Prokofjev, Sergeï :
Visions Fugitives Op. 22 Piano solo [Sheet music] Schott
Between the composition of the second and third piano sonatas (1912-1917), Proko...(+)
Between the composition of the second and third piano sonatas (1912-1917), Prokofieff wrote a variety of works for a great diversity of instruments. Besides 'Visions Fugitives' these include the ballets 'Chout' and 'The Gambler', the Classical Symphony, the first Violin Concerto, the second Piano Concerto and various songs. This was an immensely productive period during which his obsession with percussive sounds coloured by polytonality was at its height (although the Classical Symphony is an obvious exception). 'Visions Fugitives' is generally less diatonically based than any of the piano sonatas although the style is perhaps closet to the harmonic quirkiness of the Fifth Sonata (1923).
Prokofieff's compositional process habitually involved the jotting down of musical ideas as they occured to him, to be combined later. The composer's form of spontaneous inspiration seems to have enabled him to produce, in 'Visions Fugitives', a set of self-contained miniatures, perfectly shaped and coherent, yet comprising a logical sequence when played as a whole.
The simplicity and transparency of the writing gives us an insight into the interpretation of Prokofieff's music generally. The study of his shorter works enables us to understand the importance of clarity and rhythmic discipline in the performance of the later ones. The necessity for these qualities is immediately apparent in 'Visions Fugitives'. / Arrangement : F.H. Schneider / Partition /
