This work was adapted by Charles Gounod from J.S. Bach's 'Prelude No. 1 in C Major' from 'The Well-Tempered Clavier' written in 1859 and it has been a favorite of singers and audiences since then. It has been edited by Jean Ashworth Bartle for treble voice choirs and includes both the English and Latin texts.

Gounod's famous setting of the Ave Maria was arranged and based on Bach's Prelude No.1 In C BWV 846 from the Well-Tempered Clavier Book 1. This piece has been famously sung by many singers across the world and has been arranged for many different instruments and therefore enjoyed by a number of instrumentalists too.This version has been beautifully transcribed for solo Organ with a Violin ad lib. part by Edward Shippen Barnes.The Violin ad lib. part is also included on a separate insert.
