Thepresent reduction for voice and piano derives from the critical edition of the score recently published in this catalog: is based on the autograph score (housed in the Ricordi Archives in Milan) on the libretto for the premiere on the first vocalscores printed editions (Lucca and Ricordi in Milan and Marquerie Frères in Paris) and additional manuscript scores with autograph additional notes (housed in Naples and Rome). This edition presents for the first time all the music composed byDonizetti in particular the sections crossed out or replaced either immediately before or after the first performances. Gaetono Donizetti's 'The Elixir Of Love' (L'Elisir D'Amore) remains an important work in the repertory of major opera houses of the twenty-first century. It is a good-natured story in which the peasant Nemorino attempts to winthe heart of his love Adina through the ingestion of a farcical magic elixir (which is in fact merely Bordeaux!). Nemorino's aria 'Una furtiva lagrima ' is the most famous excerpt from the opera.

La Figlia del Regimento-La Fille Du Regiment is a French comic opera in three acts. The libretto was written by Jules de Saint-Georges and Jean Francois Bayard. It is regarded as one of the most important operas by Donizetti which was composed forthe French stage.

'Lucia di Lammermoor' was one of the biggest triumphs of Donizetti's career and remains as his outstanding masterpiece. The libretto was written by Salvatore Cammarano based on Sir Walter Scott's novel 'The Bride of Lammermoor'. The story runs as follows: Lord Enrico Ashton is outraged to find that his sister Lucia is in love with his mortal enemy Edgardo. He tricks Lucia into believing Edgardo unfaithful and insists she marry Lord Arturo Bucklaw. The wedding takes place disrupted by Edgardo who curses Lucia. Lucia begins to lose her mind and when Enrico challenges Edgardo to a duel Lucia kills Arturo then collapses and dies herself. On hearing the tragicnews Edgardo kills himself. This is the Schirmer edition on the Vocal Score and contains an English version by Natasha Macfarren as well as an essay by E. Irenaeus Stevenson.

Par DONIZETTI GAETANO. Through works such as Verdi’s Requiem or Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, we know that the great composers of Italian bel canto opera also wrote marvelous sacred music. Yet most of these pieces are rarely performed. This is also true of Gaetano Donizetti’s Messa di Requiem, which he composed as an expression of grief at the early death of Vincenzo Bellini in 1835. Neither performed nor printed during Donizetti’s lifetime, the Requiem is ripe for rediscovery. A rich and highly intense work, it features dramatic choruses with full orchestra, fugues, and a cappella passages that alternate with lengthy cantilenas for the soloists. The solo numbers are often scored for three male voices accompanied by low winds to create a dark timbre. The soprano and alto soloists do not themselves sing any solo arias, instead remaining part of the solo ensemble.
