This volume is intended as a folio of arrangements from the repertoire of a working musician. As such, there is only a minimum of discussion about the technical aspects of playing. Students who have already dealt with the American style called fingerpicking or fingerstyle guitar, which is quite distinct from other kinds of guitar playing, will be at an advantage. The easiest arrangements here are early intermediate level, while the other end of the scale includes pieces that may challenge even a professional. Tunes within each section are presented generally in order of difficulty. The bulk of the tunes presented are fiddle tunes, with a couple of banjo tunes and several songs as well as tunes originally played on other instruments such as harp, pipes, or accordion. There are even a small number composed for the guitar. For the most part, differences in approach among the tunes here are unrelated to the instrumental sources. All the tunes are presented in notation and tablature. Includes access to online audio.

Presenting 45 melodies composed by the blind Irish bard and harpist Turlough OCarolan arranged by such guitar greats as Dave Evans, Davey Graham, El McMeen, Duck Baker and many others. As these melodies lend themselves particularly well to guitar settings, OCarolans compositions have captured the imagination of guitarists world-wide. This compilation divides the tunes into three categories: Airs and Dance Tunes, Tunes for Patronage, and Laments. Written in standard notation and tablature. Includes access to online audio.

This lesson is intended for players who are seeking a greater understanding of how to get beyond basic open chords, or first position, use the full fretboard. We will do so by understanding the concept of a movable shape. The tunes selected will slowly introduce you to a variety of shapes commonly used by the old-time masters to unlock the neck. In addition to learning these examples, I?ll talk about the logic that makes movable shapes work, empowering you to create your own uses for them. You will learn tunes that have become standards in the fingerstyle repertoire by Sam McGee, Big Bill Broonzy and Maybelle Carter. As well, I teach two arrangements I have put together of an old-time fiddle tune and a Jelly Roll Morton piano blues. Titles include: Angeline the Baker, Franklin Blues, Railroad Blues, Saturday Night Rub, Amos Johnson Rag, Victory Rag and Buddy Bolden?s Blues Detailed tab/music PDF file on the DVD. 112 minutes.
