Album & Songbook review by: Kathy Parsons (MainlyPiano.com):
I have discovered a real wealth of great solo piano Christmas CDs this year! Isadar?s In Search For the Meaning of Christmas definitely falls into this category! Thoughtful, introspective, and a bit moody, Isadar?s arrangements are true to the carols (with some small melody changes in ?Bring a Torch? and ?Carol of the Bells? that bother me just a little) and still seem very personal. ?Bring a Torch?, ?The Holly and the Ivy?, and ?I Saw Three Ships? are given a lighthearted, joyful treatment. ?Star of Wonder (We Three Kings)?, ?What Child Is This??, ?The Coventry Carol?, and ?Sing We Now of Christmas? are all minor, somber, reverent pieces, and all four are given loving arrangements that keep the dark, mysterious nature of the songs and reflect Isadar?s own sensibilities. ?Carol of the Bells? and Isadar's take on Liz Story?s arrangement of ?Greensleeves? are energetic without losing all abandon. ?Silent Night? and ?It Came Upon a Midnight Clear? present us with a very cold, deep solitude - both feel like late night with moonlight reflecting off the snow. Both are moody, but very beautifully so. George Winston?s ?December? is one of my all-time favorite holiday albums, and I feel In Search For the Meaning of Christmas holds up exceptionally well next to it. This is an excellent collection of Christmas music, and I highly recommend it!
In Search For the Meaning of Christmas is the companion songbook to Isadar?s 1999 solo piano release by the same name. Meticulously transcribed note-for-note by David Shenton of New York Music Publishing, the music is faithful to the recording in every way (except for the pianist - YOU!). The scores are clear, concise, and easy to read, and also include chord indications for improvisation or the use of instruments other than or in addition to the piano. Isadar?s arrangements cover a whole range of emotions, from very dark and somber to joyful and buoyant. All of the pieces from the CD are here, including Isadar?s homage to Liz Story and her beautiful version of ?Greensleeves.? My personal favorites of the eleven songs in this book are the bright and cheerful ?Bring A Torch,? ?What Child Is This??, ?Greensleeves,? the darkly gorgeous ?The Coventry Carol,? and ?Sing We Now of Christmas.? Other titles that I really like are ?Children Go Where I Send Thee/The Holly and the Ivy,? ?Star of Wonder (We Three Kings)," ?Carol of the Bells,? and the effervescent ?Three Ships.? ?Silent? (Silent Night) and ?Midnight? (It Came Upon a Midnight Clear) are a bit too dark for my own holiday tastes, but are interesting and very personal arrangements. This book will make a great addition to your holiday sheet music collection and is available from isadar.com and amazon.com.
Isadar is an artist on both Enlightened Piano Radio & Whisperings Solo Piano Radio, the latter featuring some of today's biggest names in solo piano music, including Ludovico Einaudi, David Nevue, Brian Crain, Kevin Kern, Robin Spielberg, Michele McLaughlin, Philip Wesley and over 300 more...
Also available as sheet music in physical songbooks, digital downloads, as well as software for Yamaha Disklavier player-pianos.

Flute Quartet,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Flute - Level 3 - SKU: A0.559766 Composed by John Dowland. Arranged by Lisa Ochoco. Renaissance. 66 pages. Lisa L Ochoco #4726485. Published by Lisa L Ochoco (A0.559766). John Dowland (1562 – 1626) was a lutenist and singer in the Renaissance Period. The lute was a stringed instrument, most closely related to our guitar. He wrote quite a lot of music that is still played and sung by guitarists and singers today. Although his music was written for stringed instruments in general, many arrangers have adapted his works for wind instruments. This collection of 20 songs from his Third Book of Songs is arranged for flute quartet – 4 C flutes or 3 C flutes and alto. Most of these songs are rather short, so it is recommended that each song is played in its entirety at least twice. I arranged these songs so that the 1st flute always has the melody. To practice fairness in all parts, the parts should be rotated, to give each musician a chance to play the melody. Song list: 1. Farewell Too Fair 2. Time Stands Still 3. Behold a Wonder Here 4. Daphne Was Not so Chaste 5. Me, Me, and None but Me 6. When Phoebus First did Daphne Love 7. Say Love if Ever Thou Didst Find 8. Flow Not so Fast Ye Fountains 9. What if I Never Speed? 10. Love Stood Amaz’d 11. Lend Your Ears to My Sorrow 12. By a Fountain Where I Lay 13. O What Hath Overwrought 14. Farewell Unkind 15. Weep You no More, Sad Fountains 16. Fie on This Feigning 17. I Must Complain 18. It was a Time When Silly Bees 19. The Lowest Trees Have Tops 20. What Poor Astronomers are They If each song is played twice in its entirety, you will have almost an hour's worth of music. If you love Renaissance music, this will be a great addition to your repertoire!

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1314982 Composed by William Kersten. Classical,Opera,Romantic Period. Score. 23 pages. William Kersten #903730. Published by William Kersten (A0.1314982). Inspired by the Victorian and Romantic poetry of Christina Rossetti, Anne Bronte, Thomas Hood and Thomas Beddoes, the Five songs form a cycle of joy, sadness, love, death and exultation.  The music is scored in two versions: Normal Vocal Range and Wide Vocal Range.1. A Birthday Christina Rossetti (1830-1894) My heart is like a singing bird Whose nest is in a watered shoot; My heart is like an apple-tree Whose boughs are bent with thick-set fruit; My heart is like a rainbow shell That paddles in a halcyon sea; My heart is gladder than all these Because my love is come to me. Raise me a dais of silk and down; Hang it with vair and purple dyes; Carve it in doves and pomegranates, And peacocks with a hundred eyes; Work it in gold and silver grapes, In leaves and silver fleurs-de-lys; Because the birthday of my life Is come, my love is come to me. 2. Echo Christina RossettiCome to me in the silence of the night; Come in the speaking silence of a dream; Come with soft rounded cheeks and eyes as bright As sunlight on a stream; Come back in tears, Oh memory, hope, love of finished years. Oh dream how sweet, too sweet, too bitter sweet, Whose wakening should have been in Paradise, Where souls brimfull of love abide and meet; Where thirsting longing eyes Watch the slow door That opening, letting in, lets out no more. Yet come to me in dreams, that I may live My very life again though cold in death - Come back to me in dreams, that I may give Pulse for pulse, breath for breath: Speak low, lean low, As long ago, my love, how long ago. 3. There is dew...â€Thomas Hood (1799-1845)There is dew for the flowret And honey for the bee, And bowers for the wild bird, And love for you and me. There are tears for the many And pleasures for the few; But let the world pass on, dear, There's love for me and you. 4. We do lie beneath the grass...â€Thomas Beddoes (1803-1849) We do lie beneath the grass In the moonlight, in the shade Of the yew-tree. They that pass Hear us not. We are afraid They would envy our delight, in our graves by glow-worm night. Come follow us, and smile as we; We sail to the rock in the ancient waves, Where the snow falls by thousands into the sea, And the drowned and the shipwrecked have happy graves.  5. My soul is awakened...â€Â Anne Bronte (1820-1849)My soul is awakened, my spirit is soaring And carried aloft on the wings of the breeze, For above and around me the wild wind is roaring Arousing to rapture the earth and the seas. The long withered grass in the sunshine is glancing, The bare trees are tossing their branches on high, The dead leaves beneath them are merrily dancing The white clouds are scudding across the blue sky. I wish I could see how the ocean is lashing The foam of its billows to whirlwinds of spray, I wish I could see how its proud waves are dashing, And hear the wild roar of their thunder today.

Piano Solo - Level 1 - SKU: A0.1395980 Composed by Barry Mann. Arranged by Ben M. Noynay. 20th Century,Pop. Score. 4 pages. Ben M. Noynay #979356. Published by Ben M. Noynay (A0.1395980). There's No Easy Way (To Break Somebody's Heart) is one of my favorite songs from James Ingram. I was really saddened by his passing recently, so I decided to pay tribute to him by creating this simple piano solo arrangement. I thought this arrangement is good for Beginner students who are learning to play piano solo arrangements using the Two-Part System, i.e., melody on the right hand and chords on the left hand. To complete this piece, students are expected to have learned already some fundamental theory lessons on transpositions and key signatures. Good luck and enjoy your learning and playing.

Album & Songbook Review by: Kathy Parsons
I love this CD! It constantly amazes me how many outstanding composer/pianists there are out there - especially in relation to the few who are highly (commercially) successful within this broad genre. I would say that Active Imagination definitely belongs near the top of the heap. Isadar?s style is original, and his pianism is excellent. He lists his inspirations as Liz Story, Keith Jarrett, and Bill Evans, and I can hear traces of all three in his playing, but find his composing and playing styles to be uniquely his own.
The first three tracks are lively and upbeat (?Active Imagination?, ?Throwing the Dice?, and ?Where the Wild Things Are?) with an easy, jazzy, improvised feel. The meter changes are fascinating, and the bluesy beat on ?Wild Things? is infectious.
From there, the mood seems to gradually darken and become more introspective. ?Waiting? is a beautiful, flowing mood piece full of questions and a lovely melody line. Isadar?s cover of Liz Story?s ?Wedding Rain? is wonderful - this is a piece I often work on with my advanced students, and everything about Isadar?s interpretation of the piece seems right without being a carbon-copy of Liz?s recording.
?Feu Follet (the ?spook? light?)? has a nice, easy flow with a strong sense of mystery; it also has an unusual rhythm that lightens the mood and adds a bounce. ?Uncertainty? is cooler and more aloof, but gorgeous in its flowing introspection - that it ends with a major chord, feels like the soul-searching has had positive results. ?Love Chaconne? is the closing track, and is the longest and most abstract piece on the CD. The left hand plays a repeated pattern while the right hand goes off in several different directions (one of the primary characteristics of a ?chaconne?). Beautiful in its simplicity, this is the only track that seems to contain an element of pain and sorrow, but never dissolves into melodrama.
Active Imagination is excellent from start to finish and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes solo piano with substance and complexity, but is still accessible, melodic, and rhythmic. Bravo amundo!
Active Imagination Sheet Music Collection is the companion songbook to Isadar?s 1999 CD release, Active Imagination. The CD was one of my favorites for the year when I reviewed it for the print version of ?Wind and Wire? magazine, so I was really looking forward to the sheet music! Transcribed note-for-note by David Shenton of ShentonMusic.com (I proofed about half of the book, so I can attest to how accurate it is!), it is up to you to make the music sound as close to the CD as you want or to interpret the music and make your own statements with it.
One thing that really stands out about this collection is how much FUN it is to play. The rhythms are interesting and catchy, and the mood in several of the songs is playful and upbeat. This is especially true with the title song, ?Throwing the Dice,? ?Where the Wild Things Are,? and ?Feu Follet (the ?spook? light).? ?Waiting,? ?Love Chaconne,? and ?Uncertainty? are slower, more introspective, and a bit moody, making this a sheet music collection that contains a variety of moods and styles. The only piece missing from the book is Liz Story?s ?Wedding Rain,? but the sheet music for that song is available in some of Ms. Story?s own collections.
Early-advanced players should have no trouble with this music. The timing on some of the songs is a little bit tricky, but if you count it as you are learning it, it will fall into place.
If you haven?t heard the CD, check it out, too! This book is available here from SMP, isadar.com and amazon.com. Highly recommended!

Healing Hearts 3
Louis Landon
2016 / Landon Creative, Inc.
63 minutes
Review by Kathy Parsons
Louis Landon?s Healing Hearts 3 is the third in a series of solo piano albums that are comprised of improvisations that were created while clients were in session at his Healing Piano of Sedona (AZ). These sixty-minute healing and music sessions consist of forty minutes of mentoring and twenty minutes of music that includes personalized music for the client?s own use. Landon created Healing Piano of Sedona several years ago to help people live life joyously, passionately, and stress- and disease-free. Landon is a Steinway Artist who has been a life-long musician. Healing Hearts 3 is his twenty-first album and fourteenth solo piano collection. Each of the thirteen pieces on the album was inspired by a different ?soul journey,? so the music is quite varied although it maintains a very calming and peaceful vibe throughout.
It is interesting to note that Healing Hearts 3 has the closest to the ideal sound Landon has been looking for on his recordings. He attributes that achievement to the mastering and editing expertise of Joe Bongiorno of Piano Haven Studio, also in Sedona. Landon has been trying to get the sound of a classical concert hall in his Peace Palace studio recordings and this album definitely has that sound, which is exceptionally beautiful - clear, warm and resonant.
Healing Hearts 3 begins with ?Standing In the Light,? a softly flowing piece with a poignant melody that gently soothes the heart - a favorite. ?Heart Song? is hushed, intimate and obviously very personal. ?Triumph of the Soul? starts out in the deep bass of the piano - very dark and lost. As the piece evolves, it gradually lightens as it moves up the piano keyboard, ending in a very positive place. I?ve often said that the piano is the best instrument to express the sound and feeling of rain and ?Night Rain? proves that point again. More energetic than most of the other tracks, the notes flow freely: sometimes smoothly and evenly, sometimes more percussive like big fat raindrops - love it! ?Tears? is heartbreak set to music, although tears are so often a big part of the healing process. Such deep emotion is expressed in this piece! Landon wisely follows sadness with ?Happy Man,? a lively slice of pianistic sunshine. ?Phoenix Rising? begins in the deep bass of the piano, obviously signifying a very dark place or crisis. Over the course of the composition, there is turmoil and pain, but then Landon gradually moves the piece into the upper end of the piano to a much lighter and more peaceful place - a stunning piece! ?Healing Time? is gently uplifting and so soothing and serene that I can actually feel it melting away tension - another favorite. ?Music Runs Through Me? flows quickly like a stream with sparkles of sunlight dancing happily on its surface. ?Balance? returns to a calm stillness that comes when things/life are in balance. Slow, lyrical and very peaceful, it?s the perfect closing for another great album from Louis Landon!
I have thoroughly enjoyed all three Healing Hearts albums, but I think #3 is my favorite. It is available from LouisLandon.com, Amazon, iTunes and CD Baby. Very highly recommended!

Album review by: Michael Diamond (http://michaeldiamondmusic.com):
Fresh on the heels of his highly acclaimed chart-topping CD, Reconstructed, Isadar gifts us with a sparkling new album of holiday-themed instrumental music for solo piano, entitled ?O Christmas.? Given the proximity to his recent release, one might assume that this one was quickly produced, but in reality O Christmas has been 7 years in the making. Various circumstances including other recording projects, a segue into the field of video production, and a cross country move from NYC to the west coast and later back again, created delays with the completion of the album. But as they say, ?good things come to those who wait.?
One of the most interesting things about this album is the fact that the selections are traditional Christmas songs, yet some were chosen because they are less well known, or ?off the beaten path? as Isadar characterizes them. This follows the pattern set by his 1999 Christmas album ?In Search For The Meaning Of Christmas,? yet this new CD mines even deeper in its quest for interesting and unusual choices.
The album begins with a track called ?Good Christian Men.? Steeped in history, the song dates back to 14th century Germany and its Latin title was originally ?In Dulci Jubilo? before it was translated into English in the 1800?s. Isadar?s interpretation creates a lively and festive air that makes a perfect portal to the recording. The high-spirited mood continues on the next song, ?Teddy Bears Picnic,? which although not technically a Christmas song, has been interwoven by Isadar with ?March Of The Toys? to tie it in with the holidays ? a clever arrangement of these intriguing melodies. One of the more well-known carols on the album is ?O Christmas Tree? and is sure to have listeners humming along with it?s familiar refrain.
A track entitled ?Still? is an innovative rendition of the classic ?Still, Still, Still? which Isadar has put his own spin on, or as he jokingly puts it ?jazzed up shamelessly.? No such liberties were taken on the classic ?O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,? however. This song provides a showcase for Isadar?s accomplished grand piano work, featuring lush left hand arpeggios creating a strong foundation for his more delicate right hand melodies to dance upon ? a powerful and moving combination. Another of the less well known, yet equally inspiring tunes is a Puerto Rican carol entitled ?Song Of The Wise Men.? It has been said that: ?Christmas is, above all, a children?s holiday, and many hymns are addressed to children, reminding them that the real reason for the sugarplums and Christmas trees is the celebration of the birth of the Christ Child.? This theme is well reflected in Isadar?s choice of ?O Come Little Children,? based on a carol from the 1800?s.
Among my favorite tracks on the album are the wistful strains of ?Greensleeves 2012,? which Isadar interprets with elegance and grandeur and also pays ?homage? to Liz Story?s brilliant take on this enduring composition. This is followed by a rendition of ?Masters In This Hall,? which can best be described as, well? ?masterful.? The song dates back to the sixteenth century, and is another of the less well-known tunes that Isadar has chosen to feature. The album draws to a close with Isadar invoking artistic license on what is perhaps one of the most unique and liberal versions of a classic carol heard here yet. Based on ?We Wish You A Merry Christmas,? Isadar characterizes it as ?an uninhibited melancholy arrangement.? While I don?t know if ?melancholy? is the word I would use to describe it, it does have a pensive quality and is presented more as a nocturne than usual lively carol it is known as. I really liked the interpretation and respect Isadar?s creativity and distinctive rendering of the song.
?O Christmas? is an exceptional holiday collection, not only for Isadar?s elegant grand piano artistry, but as well for the interesting and sometimes unexpected repertoire contained within. Like ornaments on a tree, the songs adorn the album, enhancing its beauty with their diversity, individuality, and timelessness. Given the well-deserved accolades and popularity of Isadar?s distinctive piano style, I?m sure that fans will want to include ?O Christmas? in their collection and make it a part of their holiday tradition.

Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1148567 Composed by Music by Richard Milburn. Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Country,Folk,Historic,Traditional. 27 pages. Sweetwater Brass Press #748729. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (A0.1148567). Listen to the Mocking Bird was first published in 1855. The melody originated with Richard Milburn, a Philadelphia African-American who has been described variously as a panhandling busker and as a musically inclined barber. A songwriter and publisher by the name of Septimus Winner heard Milburn's tune, arranged it, added words, put it into print and claimed credit for its creation under the pseudonym Alice Hawthorne. Supposedly, Winner sold the rights to the song for five dollars. Listen to the Mocking Bird grew to be one of the most popular songs of the mid-19th century, a real hit. Its sheet music, by one estimate, sold more than 20 million copies. It was sung and performed particularly often during the Civil War, and troops used its melody as a marching tune. It remains somewhat of a standard and has been recorded numerous times, especially as a favorite of bluegrass musicians. In the lyrics, the singer is remembering his loved one. She has passed away but he recalls their good life together. They particularly enjoyed the call of the mocking bird, which even now is singing o'er her grave. This arrangement opens in E-flat major with Trumpet 1 introducing the sweetly sad melody, I'm dreaming now of Hally. After the introduction, the tempo picks up to allegro and whirls along. It does slow down several times, and there are four one-measure deviations from the 4/4 time signature: one 6/4, two 2/4s and one 1/4. At measure 65, the key changes to B-flat major for the finale. Trumpets 1 and 2 each play one A-above-their-staff eighth note as their highest pitch; the rest of the music stays well within the normal playing range of the five instruments. Completed in 2022, performance time runs about 3 minutes, 23 seconds. The arranger, Les Smith, will be happy to provide substitute parts (for example, treble clef baritone for trombone) at no charge. He would like to receive your suggestions, comments, corrections and criticisms. For more arrangements by Les, enter Sweetwater Brass Press (without the quotation marks) in the Sheet Music Plus or Sheet Music Direct search box. (Also, purchase of this piece entitles you to your choice of another of his arrangements at no charge; send a copy of your purchase receipt directly to him at lessmith61@bellsouth.net.)

My Mother had some sad news to give me. Dad was very ill. My whole life flashed before me. My parents were always 200% supportive of all my artistic endeavors. None of my success would have been possible but for my Dad and Mom. My memories of my Dad and my Mom flooded my mind like a deluge. When I heard the news about how gravely ill he was I thought to myself that so often we give thanks, honor, or show our love when it is too late. Who wants to be that person? I was finally in the unique position to show my gratitude and love to my parents in the most special way that I could - through music from my heart and soul. I got the courage to look deeply within and then I began to write what was to become the first and second songs, respectively Tears from My Eyes: Remember Your Feelings and Tears from My Eyes: Reflection and Contemplation on my Tears from My Eyes: Songs from my Soul album. You will now be able to do just the same for your loved ones with this new music. Your intermediate level to advanced students and even professional musicians should find this to be a welcomed piece to learn and master. It looks deceptively simple but the learning and challenge comes from two smaller sub-ensembles playing together in their own collective units legato con moto while playing together as a whole music ensemble Everyone will enjoy and bathe in the beautiful harmonies that will resonate when the entire music ensemble begins to listen to each while playing together as a group. Your musicians will hone their skills in playing together with just the right balance that this song requires. Your musicians will also hone their skills for subdividing and maintaining an inner beat that is in sync with your conducting because there is no percussion and the notes are freely flowing on and off the down beat yet not sounding heavily syncopated when performed. When will you know when you have achieved the right balance and flow of the music? You will know when, because you will hear it and feel it when it comes into place. But I can help you with all of this with what I have to offer you today. I share with you now the final and 5th movement to Tears from my Eyes - Onward and Upward (for String Orchestra). Small Ensemble,Strings Clarinet - Level 5 - SKU: A0.913624 Composed by James Marshall. Contemporary,Folk. Score and parts. 87 pages. James Marshall Music #6096869. Published by James Marshall Music (A0.913624). English Autumn was composed in Fall/Winter 2018-2019 for Clarinetist Allison Eales commissioned by the Gregynog . Scored for Clarinet in A and String Trio it reflects the collage of Autumn colors: Green, Yellow, Brown shades of first Autumn; Red, Orange of Autumn at its peak. It followed my English Sonatina for young clarinetists premiered by Alison Eales and Anna de Hair in London in January, 2019, and was premiered in London in October, 2019. This piece reflects the heightened emotions of fiery intensity reflected in the changing of the colors of the leaves in Autumn. Reflected as well is the serene beauty before the Autumn arrives, and the resignation of the eternal cycles of nature. The opening section (Andante) evokes the feeling of nostalgia and assurance of the inevitable cycle of nature. We know the life will go from the tress only to return again next season. We feel the joy of the intense colors of the foliage, and the sadness of the loss of life in winter. This section segues into Green (Adagio cantabile) with pastoral music and quotes of The Water is Wide and I pass all the hours in a shady grove of Pelham Humphrey. This leads into Red (Allegro con fuoco/Presto), followed by Orange (Declamando) as well as absence of color when the leaves all fall. I pass all the hours is a song by Pelham Humphrey with words by Charles II: I pass all the hours in a shady grove …When I see the print of her shape in the green…I think there’s no hell like loving too well, The melody is incorporated because it is the same melodic motif of the Scherzando movement of my English Sonatina for young clarinetists which Alison Eales and Anna de Hair premiered. I discovered it after composing that piece in researching English folk songs to refer to in this piece. It is an ideal segue into the Allegro con fuco/Presto music. The final section (Andante cantabile) is my personal melodic sequence from the rising motif of Over the hills and far away.

Published by Thomas Swee Chin (A0.818531). Hauntingly beautiful melody. Simplified for the general public to enjoy this beautiful work. Check out the original version attached. The Lark was originally No. 10 of a group of twelve songs that Glinka wrote in 1840 and entitled Farewell to St. Petersburg. Mily Balakirev, born 1836, got to know Glinka in 1855 and admired him deeply. Glinka stimulated Balakirev to start composing. He has paraphrased several of Glinka's works, The Lark being the most famous of them. This work owes to Glinka the exceptionally beautiful and sad melody, and to Balakirev the wonderful flowing figuration.

Marlowe Music Productions #909979. Published by Marlowe Music Productions (A0.1321517). This is another of my earliest works that I have since polished up. This was the first song I ever wrote that I considered to be brilliant and really gave me the confidence and motivation to continue on my path to being an origianl composer. I've gotten tired of this talentless era that we live in where it's all about using technology to remaster and auto-tune and just cover the same old songs... This was my attempt to make something that is formless, no template for rehashing, but something truly original. I have tried to carry that spirit with my subsequent songs. I'd like to give you my art for free, but sadly this world wants me to be a slave to my employer and I'm not making enough money, so here I am trying to sell my music. I feel like the spirit of art aught to be a spirit of creation and giving. Modern art has perverted this spirit to one of copying and marketing... I hope you enjoy this, I put a lot of effort and heart into it.

Anastasio Rossi #886056. Published by Anastasio Rossi (A0.1295761). Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky composed a set of six romances for voice and piano, Op. 6, in late 1869. The last of these songs is the melancholy None But The Lonely Heart, a tender, expressive, and delicate song, easy to learn and sing. This arrangement can be sung by any combinationof voices, TB, SA, SATB, male or female, duet, quartet, chorus, and so on. The English lyrics are not a literal translation of the Russian, but capture the emotions of sadness, longing, and being parted from loved ones. The unison voices divide at measure 38, where the song begins the climb to its climax. At 44, a sempre decrescendo brings the song to a quiet, mournful close.Learning tracks are available at no cost from the arranger: AAR@prodigy.net.

Marcelo Borba #1075448. Published by Marcelo Borba (A0.1499396). Leadsheet style ## Beijo Partido is a song composed by Brazilian guitarist and composer Toninho Horta, and it has become one of the most emblematic songs in Brazilian popular music, especially within the context of the Clube da Esquina movement, of which Horta was a member. The song also gained notoriety in the voice of Milton Nascimento, one of the leading figures of this movement. ### Origin and ContextToninho Horta composed Beijo Partido in 1973, during a period when he was involved with Clube da Esquina, a collective of musicians from Minas Gerais that mixed elements of Brazilian popular music, jazz, rock, and classical music. The song reflects this mix of styles, characterized by complex harmonies and a melancholic melody, elements that became Horta's trademarks.### Lyrics and MeaningThe lyrics of Beijo Partido are poetic and subjective, a common trait in the compositions of Clube da Esquina. The song talks about the end of a romantic relationship, using the metaphor of a broken kiss to describe the rupture and pain of separation. Despite its melancholic tone, the song carries an intrinsic beauty in the way sadness is expressed delicately and introspectively.### Recordings and ImpactBeijo Partido was first recorded on Toninho Horta's solo album, Terra dos Pássaros, released in 1980. The version by Milton Nascimento, which also became well-known, helped to further popularize the song. Over the years, Beijo Partido has been covered by various artists, both in Brazil and abroad, and is considered a classic of MPB (Música Popular Brasileira).***[Português] Beijo Partido é uma canção composta pelo guitarrista e compositor brasileiro Toninho Horta, e se tornou uma das músicas mais emblemáticas da música popular brasileira, especialmente no contexto do movimento Clube da Esquina, do qual Horta foi um dos integrantes.

Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8826-3E). English.I’ve Known Rivers is a multi-movement work, comprised of songs based on four different poems by Langston Hughes (1902–1967). Though he lived much of his life in the Harlem neighborhood of New York City, Hughes was born in Missouri and raised in Kansas, Illinois, and Ohio. At age seventeen, he traveled to Mexico to live with his estranged father. As he crossed the Mississippi River, he was inspired to write The Negro Speaks of Rivers, which begins “I’ve known rivers….,†and is the text for the first movement, “My Soul Has Grown Deep.†It reflects upon rivers of historic and geographical importance—the Euphrates, Congo, Nile, and Mississippi. As the rivers have endured over time, so has the human soul. The waters—the blood—runs deep.In contrast to the universal message of the first song, “Troubled Water,†which uses the poetry of the same title, is contemporary and personal. Water becomes an image of the unsettled and uncertain nature of love. The journey of love is a journey of troubled water. There is no resolution.Undaunted by the elusive nature of love, the poet, heard via the chorus, turns flippant, displaying a persevering and humorous outlook in “Jump Right In!†(to the river) from Hughes’ poem Life is Fine. Romantic misadventures will not conquer the spirit. “I could’ve died for love, but for livin’ I was born.â€â€œIn time of silver rain,†once more using the poem of the same title, is a song of healing. With the regeneration of spring, the poet marvels at the wonder of life.Though intended to be performed as the complete multi-movement work I’ve Known Rivers, each song may be performed separately.
