Sing one, two, or all six of these expressive and charming songs for soprano and piano! Most Importantly, Loves (2021) by Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP), as a six-song cycle for soprano and pianoText — six letters by Maureen Broy PapovichDuration 25:00Difficulty 4 intermediate/advancedProgram note — Most Importantly, Loves (2021), a song cycle for soprano and piano composed by Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP), was commissioned by Maureen Broy Papovich whose six letters furnish the text. She wrote letters to various close family members with tender messages overflowing with admiration, affection, and hope. The songs look at each beloved relative as seen through the prism of the author’s caring eyes and heart. Rooted in moody Dorian mode, the lyrical melodies of R. J. overlay a more brooding, restless piano part. Lucy sports a bit of a jazzy lilt and sassy attitude. The infectious laugh of Camryn and the remarkable resemblance to her late father underpin this quick syncopated C major number. Brendan reflects his exuberant love of life and devastating self-destructive addiction with radical tonality and tempo changes. Mira has an encouraging message for a young person in D mixolydian with soothing piano texture. Jonah’s long lines soar over lush expansive harmonies grounded in B flat major to form a soft fleece blanket of comforting sound and boundless unconditional parental love. — Adrienne InglisThe impetus for the poems that became the song cycle “Most Importantly Loves†started a decade ago. My brother died suddenly in 2011 at the age of 42. He left all of us behind including his daughters, my nieces, when they were ages six years and six months. My father and mother died a short time later, within months of each other in 2013 and 2014. Finally, in 2017 my 27-year-old nephew died of a drug overdose. This intense period of loss brought and continues to bring about many feelings of regret in addition to so much more. When my nephew died, my son Jonah, developed an intense anxiety about losing us, his parents. I felt compelled to express my feelings, the fear of my own mortality, the anxiety of leaving behind loved ones, combined with words said and unsaid to those lost. “Love letters†is my gift to the six young people I care most about. These songs, exquisitely set to music by my friend and composer Adrienne Inglis, express my deep love for each of my loved ones and also, hopefully, provide them with a piece of writing that they can use as a source of strength when life becomes particularly challenging. —  Maureen Broy PapovichPlaylist of Oct. 22, 2022 performance:https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLY9Jh0jT7VQsLBdIik5wJRjE6Qhu_5IZD.

Contralto voice and piano - Medium - SKU: MQ.8769-3E Composed by Juliana Hall. 6 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8769-3E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8769-3E). English.Juliana Hall wrote her song cycle Of That So Sweet Imprisonment for mezzo soprano Stephanie Blythe, for whom Hall had expressed a desire to write a piece. Blythe accepted Hall's proposal, and her request was that Hall write a song cycle for contralto voice. In recounting her motivation for writing this piece, Hall - in a discussion with Blythe at the Fall Island Vocal Arts Seminar (where Hall was the Guest Composer in 2018) - said You know what I think is really so wonderful is how you [Blythe] communicate, from here to there, right to the audience...it just speaks, the words, the text, come right...right to the heart of each person...I was thinking, what a wonderful person, what a wonderful voice...to be able to communicate...I've just got the most perfect singer to take these songs, this wonderful subject of love, and present it to the worldThe seven poems Hall set in Of That So Sweet Imprisonment were chosen from James Joyce's early book of poems, Chamber Music (Elkin Mathews, London) published in 1907. The poems are arranged in a narrative arc that takes the listener from the presence of love in nature (Strings in the Earth and Air), to the human feeling of emptiness when love is not present (Winds of May), to a description exulting in the joys of human love (Of That So Sweet Imprisonment), to expression of human love such as kissing (In the Dark Pine-Wood), to love's tranformation of a girl into a woman through love making (Bid Adieu), to the feelings of contentment in the early morning after making love (At That Hour When All Things Have Repose), and finally a call for the lovers to go to a special place where they may remain together in love (O Cool is the Valley).Of That So Sweet Imprisonment will be premiered on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York City, by Ms. Blythe and pianist Alan Smith, on the third concert of the Sparks & Wiry Cries' NYC songSLAM Festival, entitled Expressions of Love: Stephanie Blythe and Friends.Contents:I. Electric Bass Guitar,Piano Accompaniment - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1105110 By David Kai. By David Kai. Arranged by David Kai. Christian,Contemporary. Full Performance. Duration 254. David Kai #708357. Published by David Kai (A0.1105110). A song for Good Friday. Scripture reference: John 15:13. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. NO GREATER LOVE words and music by David Kai ©1985 A chilly wind blows upon Calvary's hill, the sky is as dark as the night, the sweat and the blood trickle down to the ground, as the townspeople gaze at the sight, And the hands that once held the children near are nailed onto the tree, Why did you have to suffer that for me? They beat him until he could hardly stand, a crown of thorns pierced his head, and all of that time not a single word in his defense he said, And I stood within that angry crowd that jeered along the way, for I helped to put you on the cross that day. CHORUS For the man on the cross filled with sorrow and pain, will bring us to God once again, for no greater love has been shown since that day when the Saviour took our sins away. For all of my life your boundless love I want to get to know, 'though sometimes I've turned my back on you and I’ve heard the rooster crow, but then you've appeared just like a friend to guide my wandering way, no longer on the cross, you're here today. The Light of the World, the Bread of Life, the Son of God, Morning Star, my earthly mind can't comprehend all of the things you are, but even through glass that's dark and dim, my eyes can plainly see, you loved us so much you died to set us free. CHORUS For the man on the cross filled with sorrow and pain, will bring us to God once again, for no greater love has been shown since that day when the Savior took our sins away. No greater love, no there's no greater love, No greater love, no there's no greater love, There's no greater love than to lay down your life for a friend.

Piano Solo - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1248632 By Herb Alpert. By Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. Broadway,Film/TV,Jazz,Musical/Show,Singer/Songwriter,Standards. Score. 3 pages. Timothy Stapay #843127. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1248632). This is an arrangement of This Guys In Love With You for intermediate piano solo. This Guy's in Love with You is a song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and recorded by Herb Alpert. Although known primarily for his trumpet playing as the leader of the Tijuana Brass, Alpert sang lead vocals on this solo recording, arranged by Bacharach. An earlier recording of the song was by British singer Danny Williams titled That Guy's in Love, which appears on his 1968 self-titled album. As documented in an A&E Biography episode featuring Bacharach, the recording originated when Alpert, while visiting at Bacharach's office, asked, Say, Burt, do you happen to have any old compositions lying around that you and Hal never recorded; maybe one I might be able to use? Alpert said he made it his practice to ask songwriters that particular question: often a lost pearl was revealed. As it happened, Bacharach recalled one, found the lyrics and score sheet in his office filing cabinet, and offered it to Alpert: Here, Herb ... you might like this one.Lyrics:You see this guyThis guy's in love with youYes, I'm in loveWho looks at you the way I doWhen you smile I can tellWe know each other very wellHow can I show youI'm glad I got to know you, 'causeI've heard some talkThey say you think I'm fineYeah, I'm in loveAnd what I'd do to make you mineTell me now, is it so?Don't let me be the last to knowMy hands are shakingDon't let my heart keep breaking, 'causeI need your loveI want your loveSay you're in loveIn love with this guyIf not, I'll just dieTell me now, is it so?Don't let me be the last to knowMy hands are shakingDon't let my heart keep breaking, 'cause I need your loveI want your loveSay you're in loveIn love with this guyIf not, I'll just die.

Small Ensemble Drums,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 3 - SKU: A0.802642 By Wings. By Linda McCartney and Paul McCartney. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Film/TV. Score and parts. 36 pages. Peet du Toit #6115473. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802642). Silly Love Songs is a song written by Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney and performed by Wings. The song appears on the 1976 album Wings at the Speed of Sound. It was also released as a single in 1976, backed with Cook of the House. The song, written in response to John Lennon and music critics accusing McCartney of predominantly writing silly love songs and sentimental slush, also features disco overtones. The song was McCartney's 27th number one as a songwriter; the all-time record for the most number one hits achieved by a songwriter. With this song, McCartney became the first person to have a year-end No. 1 song as a member of two distinct acts. McCartney previously hit No. 1 in the year-end Billboard chart as a member of the Beatles with I Want to Hold Your Hand in 1964 and Hey Jude in 1968.Silly Love Songs has since appeared on multiple McCartney greatest hits compilations, including Wings Greatest and All the Best!. The song has also appeared on the Hits section of the compilation album Wingspan: Hits and History. Despite its popularity, McCartney has not performed the song live since the dissolution of Wings.Silly Love Songs was written as a rebuttal to music critics (as well as John Lennon) who had criticized McCartney for writing lightweight love songs. Author Tim Riley suggests that in the song, McCartney is inviting his audience to have a laugh on him, as Elvis Presley had sometimes done. But over the years people have said, Aw, he sings love songs, he writes love songs, he's so soppy at times. I thought, Well, I know what they mean, but, people have been doing love songs forever. I like 'em, other people like 'em, and there's a lot of people I love -- I'm lucky enough to have that in my life. So the idea was that you may call them silly, but what's wrong with that? The song was, in a way, to answer people who just accuse me of being soppy. The nice payoff now is that a lot of the people I meet who are at the age where they've just got a couple of kids and have grown up a bit, settling down, they'll say to me, I thought you were really soppy for years, but I get it now! I see what you were doing! - Paul McCartney, Billboard Enjoy my brassy version of Silly Love Songs

Piano,Vocal,Voice - Level 5 - SKU: A0.1248246 Composed by Ross Fiddes. 21st Century,Chamber,Classical,Contemporary. Score. 31 pages. Ross Fiddes #842808. Published by Ross Fiddes (A0.1248246). It was late 2015. You have written music for our children and for many others, but you’ve never written anything for me†said my bride of (then) 36 years.  Point taken. Whilst she had inspired me and had been a sounding board for many works, I had never dedicated anything to her. In looking for texts which expressed something of the love and admiration I have for my dear lady, I found some beautiful poems by the late Australian poet, John Shaw Neilson. These express emotions which are romantic, whimsical, allegorical, contemplative and more, providing marvellous inspiration.Rejecting the idea of narrative song cycle, I decided each song would tell its own story, naming the grouping Love Stories. So here is is.Throughout, the music is treated in ensemble; the piano does not “accompany†but supports whilst charting its own course. The work was premiered in the 2018 Newcastle Music Festival by Michael Lampard with the composer at the piano. And the dedicatee gave the performers a huge hug onstage at the conclusion of the work!YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-E8lJpMVGE&t=2sÂ

B-Flat Clarinet,Piano - Level 4 - SKU: A0.1090918 Composed by David Shire. Arranged by Uwe Roessler Rössler Rassler. 20th Century,Film/TV,Jazz,Standards. Score and part. 6 pages. Uwe Roessler #695061. Published by Uwe Roessler (A0.1090918). The opening title of the soundtrack from the movie â€Farewell, My Lovely†(1975), with the great Robert Mitchum. Aka “Marlowe´s Themeâ€. As Leif “Smoke Rings†Anderson said about this piece: “It tells a sadly story about a lonely man walking away in the night, going nowhere.†The relaxed tempo makes it an ideal piece for after-hours. And the jazzy chords are just marvellous! Piano voice is written out - with additional chord symbols for your own voicings. As for the title, the name of the piece: I am not entirely sure, whether “Marlowe´s Theme†is correct. The music of the opening scene has no name, as far as I´ve been able to determine, and on Davis Shire´s own piano solo version there´s a combination of this piece with “Marlowe´s Themeâ€. But, there you go … . It´s fantastic music, anyway. Two iterations: Piano Intro with the original piano pattern. Clarinet has the theme for one complete iteration. Piano Solo over 16 bars. Clarinet takes over second half of the theme. Duration: approx 03.00 min. I´ve listed quite a lot of songs, so far: Movie Themes and classic Pop songs for this kind of instrumentation, and others. Browse ;-) Have fun with my arrangements!

Contralto voice and piano - Medium - SKU: MQ.8769-2E Composed by Juliana Hall. 7 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8769-2E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8769-2E). Arranged by Mario Stallbaumer. Pop. Score. 5 pages. Mario Stallbaumer #4301505. Published by Mario Stallbaumer (A0.510526). Here’s how to play “thank u, next†by Ariana Grande on piano! With this piano sheet music, you can play “thank u, next†on piano - you can use it as an instrumental arrangement, but also accompany singers, or sing along yourself. This “thank u, next†piano version is transposed one half step from the original key of Bb minor to A minor, so it’s much easier to play. These piano sheets come with all parts of the song, full lyrics included. It’s not too hard to play and sounds fantastic! However, there’s a more challenging arrangement of the song in the original key available, you can get it here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/21155619Ariana Grande certainly knows what it's like if one's personal life is making headlines. In November 2018, she released thank u, next, a surprisingly positive song about her past relationships and breakups (including Mac Miller, Pete Davidson and Big Sean), in which she comes to the conclusion that she learned from all of them!“thank u, next†serves as the lead single from Ariana Grande’s fifth studio album. Here are the song’s full lyrics:“Thought I'd end up with SeanBut he wasn't a matchWrote some songs about RickyNow I listen and laughEven almost got marriedAnd for Pete, I'm so thankfulWish I could say, Thank you to Malcolm'Cause he was an angelOne taught me loveOne taught me patienceAnd one taught me painNow, I'm so amazingI've loved and I've lostBut that's not what I seeSo, look what I gotLook what you taught meAnd for that, I sayThank you, next (next)Thank you, next (next)Thank you, nextI'm so fuckin' grateful for my exThank you, next (next)Thank you, next (next)Thank you, next (next)I'm so fuckin'Spend more time with my friendsI ain't worried 'bout nothin'Plus, I met someone elseWe havin' better discussionsI know they say I move on too fastBut this one gon' last'Cause her name is AriAnd I'm so good with that (so good with that)She taught me love (love)She taught me patience (patience)How she handles pain (pain)That shit's amazing (yeah, she's amazing)I've loved and I've lost (yeah, yeah)But that's not what I see (yeah, yeah)'Cause look what I've found (yeah, yeah)Ain't no need for searching, and for that, I sayThank you, next (thank you, next)Thank you, next (thank you, next)Thank you, next (thank you)I'm so fuckin' grateful for my exThank you, next (thank you, next)Thank you, next (said thank you, next)Thank you, next (next)I'm so fuckin' grateful for my exThank you, nextThank you, nextThank you, nextI'm so fuckingOne day I'll walk down the aisleHolding hands with my mamaI'll be thanking my dad'Cause she grew from the dramaOnly wanna do it once, real badGon' make that shit lastGod forbid something happensLeast this song is a smash (song is a smash)I've got so much love (love)Got so much patience (patience)I've learned from the pain (pain)I turned out amazing (turned out amazing)I've loved and I've lost (yeah, yeah)But that's not what I see (yeah, yeah)'Cause look what I've found (yeah, yeah)Ain't no need for searchingAnd for that, I'll sayThank you, next (thank you, next)Thank you, next (thank you, next)Thank you, nextI'm so fuckin' grateful for my exThank you, next (thank you, next)Thank you, next (said thank you, next)Thank you, next (next)I'm.

Lyrics No, no, no, no, no! Can't hide it anymore, She's happy but I'm hurt, I want to be her joy; She said I'm so annoy'ng, Baby I'm so sorry! Baby I'm so sorry! She has no hope in me making it big, She saw no future in me becoming rich, She chose luxury over me; Baby I'm so sorry! She saw no happiness with me so soon, She chose money over me Because I was broke; We ate together, We laughed together; We loved each other: She said she love me I am everything to her, She said I meant the world and the life in her, But she chose luxury over me, Baby I'm so sorry! Luxury so sweet; the life she feels I cannot give, She chose money over me Because I was broke; I was out in the colds Just to gist with you, I know my failures Made me look senseless And my path rejections Made me look worthless; I buried my labour just to make you so happy And sweet smile on your face gave me joy and hope on my dreams I will never forget you, I will always remember, For the memory of you Had consumed my thoughts, Baby I'm so sorry! Baby I'm so sorry! I thought I was the one for you all this while, I hope your luxury will love and care for you More than the way I would love and care for you, Because I thought my little love was just enough She chose money over me Because I was broke; No, no, no, no, no! Can't hide it any more, She's happy but I'm hurt, I want to be her joy; She said I'm so annoy'ng, Baby I'm so sorry! Baby I'm so sorry! My dreams of promises to her is gone with her For it never became a reality, I told her to never leave me. She said I'm giving her tough times. I called her my Belov'd the one in whom I am well pleased, I told her it will be all right for one day we Will make it to the top of the World together, But she never believed me Because I was broke; She started feeling bored for texting and chatting with me; She started laying False accusations against me; I denied pleasure and Distance just to be with her And made her so happy But she could not do same for me, Baby I'm so sorry! Baby I'm so sorry! She suspects me for what I do not know, I had to let it go For her to be happy Because that's what she wants! Baby I'm so sorry! Baby I'm so sorry! It's hard to say the word Because I was broke; Baby I'm so sorry! Baby I'm so sorry! Baby I'm so sorry! Baby I'm so sorry!

Here is the piece Arthur Breur composed for the family and friends of Zayne Shomler, December 14, 1998 - February 8, 2016. Prior to performing the piece, he spoke to the assembled mourners with the following prepared text:It does no disservice to laugh or smile - or, yes, to cry - when remembering Zayne. He is a part of your life and always will remain so. You carry him into your future with you.Likewise, it does him no service to unjustly obsess over things that are now unchangeable. Things said that cannot be unsaid. Things done that cannot be undone. Things not done that you feel you should have done. It does not serve Zayne or anyone to beat yourself up over such things, because then you just carry pain and sadness into your future with you, when you could be carrying -and sharing-the joy, the love, and the lessons you learned from having Zayne in your life for the time that you did.All that you can do is what you can do now. Let those who are here now know that you love them and you are here for them. Be here for them now, and be here with them every moment you can into the future. There is a very powerful and meaningful quote by the late author, Terry Pratchett: No one is actually dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away... I personally find great hope and comfort in that saying. Do your best to make as many ripples in the world as possible-heck, make a splash! Touch as many lives as possible. Remember those who created ripples that touched your life, and to keep those ripples going for as long as it is in your power to do so.You carry Zayne into your future with you. In you. You carry him into the future by Remembering Zayne and sharing the good that he brought into your life, so that the ripples he made continue to go out and touch others through you.***As performed by the composer: https://soundcloud.com/arthurbreur/remembering-zayneApprox. 3m20sArthur Breur (BMI)https://arthurbreur.comhttps://twitter.com/arthurbreur

Level 4 - SKU: A0.1136040 By Budapest Scoring. By King Henry VIII (attrib.). Arranged by David Warin Solomons. Classical,Contemporary. Full Performance. Duration 144. David Warin Solomons #736065. Published by David Warin Solomons (A0.1136040). Hélas madame is attributed to King Henry VIII. It is part of a secular collection, found on a manuscript that was used in Henry's court. The originality of the song has been questioned, with various parts of the song allegedly taken from similar pieces in Europe. The song itself is a courtship conversation in Middle French between a man and woman. Alas my lady, whom I do so love: Suffer me to be your humble servant; Your humble servant I shall always be. And while I live, I'll love none else but you. Alas, fair sir, you are good and kind, Wise and courteous and from a noble house, And as good as one could find, But I can't forget the one I love. Alas my lady, think upon your case: Between us two, no need for advocate. Certainly not, and you know it well. Be gone, for you are doing nothing. My heart sighs and tenderly complains, When it cannot find relief. I know not how it wants me to woo; If it is so, I'll go wooing elsewhere. Alas my lady, and shall I not? Certainly, fair sir, I have not said so. Behave rightly and you will be rewarded. Alas my lady, from my whole heart, thank you. Performed by Anita Szabó Ildikó Szabady Iza Nagy Boglárka Dávid.

Sunshine On My Shoulders – Concert Band Sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry Sunshine on the water looks so lovely Sunshine almost always makes me high Sunshine on My Shoulders (sometimes titled simply Sunshine) is a song recorded and co-written by American singer-songwriter John Denver. It was originally released as an album track on 1971's Poems, Prayers & Promises and later, as a single in 1973. Denver wrote this song on an early spring day in Minnesota when the rain was gently falling. He found himself looking forward to spending more time outdoors and enjoying the sunshine. He said of the song, On one level it was about the virtues of love. On another, more deeply felt level, it reached for something the whole world could embrace. This is an arrangement for Concert Band with an optional Piano part...Grade = 3 Duration = 2:45 mins The MP3 and Video audio was recorded with NotePerformer 3. Too Much For Our Thirstby Alexander BurdissArranged for Trombone and PianoDedicated to Courtney CarmackPerformance Time: approx. 7:00This is an adaptation for trombone of a piece originally written for tuba. The Eyes of the Poor from Paris SpleenWritten by Charles Baudelaire, Translated by Arthur Symons Ah! you want to know why I hate you to-day. It will probably be less easy for you to understand than for me to explain it to you; for you are, I think, the most perfect example of feminine impenetrability that could possibly be found. We had spent a long day together, and it had seemed to me short. We had promised one another that we would think the same thoughts and that our two souls should become one soul; a dream which is not original, after all, except that, dreamed by all men, it has been realised by none. In the evening you were a little tired, and you sat down outside a new café at the corner of a new boulevard, still littered with plaster and already displaying proudly its unfinished splendours. The café glittered. The very gas put on all the fervency of a fresh start, and lighted up with its full force the blinding whiteness of the walls, the dazzling sheets of glass in the mirrors, the gilt of cornices and mouldings, the chubby-cheeked pages straining back from hounds in leash, the ladies laughing at the falcons on their wrists, the nymphs and goddesses carrying fruits and pies and game on their heads, the Hebes and Ganymedes holding out at arm's-length little jars of syrups or parti-coloured obelisks of ices; the whole of history and of mythology brought together to make a paradise for gluttons. Exactly opposite to us, in the roadway, stood a man of about forty years of age, with a weary face and a greyish beard, holding a little boy by one hand and carrying on the other arm a little fellow too weak to walk. He was taking the nurse-maid's place, and had brought his children out for a walk in the evening. All were in rags. The three faces were extraordinarily serious, and the six eyes stared fixedly at the new café with an equal admiration, differentiated in each according to age. The father's eyes said: How beautiful it is! how beautiful it is! One would think that all the gold of the poor world had found its way to these walls. The boy's eyes said: How beautiful it is! how beautiful it is! But that is a house which only people who are not like us can enter. As for the little one's eyes, they were too fascinated to express anything but stupid and utter joy. Song-writers say that pleasure ennobles the soul and softens the heart. The song was right that evening, so far as I was concerned. Not only was I touched by this family of eyes, but I felt rather ashamed of our glasses and decanters, so much too much for our thirst. I turned to look at you, dear love, that I might read my own thought in you; I gazed deep into your eyes, so beautiful and so strangely sweet, your green eyes that are the home of caprice and under the sovereignty of the Moon; and you said to me: Those people are insupportable to me with their staring saucer- eyes! Couldn't you tell the head waiter to send them away? So hard is it to understand one another, dearest, and so incommunicable is thought, even between people who are in love!

Piano Solo - Level 4 - SKU: A0.987080 Composed by Eric Paul Nolte. Contemporary. Score. 12 pages. Eric Paul Nolte #566749. Published by Eric Paul Nolte (A0.987080). This piece is one of an album of my contemporary classical compositions. Yes, I too wince at offering you something saddled with this oxymoron--contemporary classical--but this phrase is now an irresistible, commercially recognized category defying any principled protest from the ranks of wounded musicological curmudgeons like me. The style here employs a tonal palette that celebrates the more or less common practice of composers from J. S. Bach to Ravel, Prokofiev, and the 20th century American songbook. You will see that I reject Arnold Schoenberg's assertion that by 1910 tonality had exhausted itself, and needed to be reinvented according to an aesthetics that dismiss our scales and harmonies as purely arbitrary human conventions with no basis in nature. On the contrary, I believe that we are endowed by our nature to respond emotionally to our traditional materials of music in the same way as nature equips us to respond to the taste of food and drink. We differ in our taste for savory, sweet, and sour, but it is wrong to say that our very capacity to taste is a merely cultural convention. There is biology, and then physics too! By the same standard, it can't be true that one person's taste for arsenic is as valid as another's taste for beer or kumquats. The major triad is a force of nature, like the sun, wind, and rain! I also like big fat juicy 13 chords, and contrapuntal weaving of melody! I believe the purpose of music is to sway us emotionally, and if it can uplift us too, so much the better! While I am not ashamed to write a bare triad, unadorned by chromatic alterations (much less by clusters of chord collisions) I have nevertheless employed much complicated harmony. Moreover, some passages are written in a spiky harmony that might be analyzed as bitonal, as at the meno mosso section, beginning at measure 112, where the mood I wanted to set inspired me to write the theme in C minor while the left hand climbs up from the bottom of the keyboard in a widely spaced, D-flat 13 arpeggio. I have composed these pieces with the skills of intermediate to early-advanced pianists in mind. This piece demands the ability to play some counterpoint between two voices in one hand. There is a section that requires one to play moderately fast octaves, but nothing as difficult as the G minor Prelude of Chopin (to say nothing of his harrowing octave Etude from Opus 25!) While there are many polyrhythmic passages, none is more complicated than two-against-three notes. All said, there is nothing here to make your hands (or, I dare say, your ears) bleed. The performing time is around nine minutes and a breath or three. I have a number of videos posted on YouTube.com, I have a website under construction, ericpaulnolte.com, and, since 2011, an occasional blog of my ravings on life, love, and the cosmos, at ericpaulnolte.blogspot.com.
