Concert Band - Level 1 - SKU: A0.1431754 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Brian Harris. Christmas,Holiday,Instructional,Sacred,Traditional. 34 pages. HMS Music #1012229. Published by HMS Music (A0.1431754). _______________________JOURNEY OF THE MAGI is a tasteful, restrained, and plaintive arrangement of We Three Kings in A-A-B form. Simple harmonization, limited ranges, and basic rhythms ensure success and enjoyment for both the musicians and the audience. The work creates a musical picture of a slow-moving camel caravan crossing a desert. This is a work you will continue to use for years to come. And with the license to copy all the parts you ever need, you can let the students keep their parts as souvenirs and just print new ones the next time!LEVEL: Appropriate for 2nd-/3rd-year players or advanced beginners. (BcP-YB) PROGRAMMING:Winter/Christmas concertModerately slow tempo provides nice contrast with faster works. FEATURES:Melody distributed through all wind parts.Simple but effective percussion parts.Programmatic nature of the work allows students to begin learning expressiveness. CHALLENGES:Dynamics (long crescendo and decrescendo challenges young players to support the tone and intonation)Legato playingBalanceSolos (Two solos, each consisting of 2 quarter-notes, are optionally doubled with other instruments)Multi-percussion playing KEY and RANGES: C minor and E-flat majorStandard 1st-year ranges: Flute to B-flat above staff; Clarinets remain below break; Trumpet to third-space C; Horn from 2nd-line G to low G; Trombone to B-flat on top of staff; Tuba to C below staff. Clarinet is divided into separate 1st and 2nd parts; all others (except percussion) are undivided. MINIMUM INSTRUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS: Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Bass Line*, and 3 Percussion (easy rhythms) *At least one of the following: Bassoon, Bass Clarinet, Horn, Trombone, Baritone, or Tuba PERCUSSION: Utilizes three separate multi-percussion set-ups:Percussion 1 = Bells, Finger Cymbals, Tom-tomPercussion 2 = Tambourine, Suspended Cymbal 1, Bass DrumPercussion 3 = Triangle, Suspended Cymbal 2, Bass Drum (can share same bass drum with Perc. 2). These percussion parts are simple, using only quarter-, half-, and dotted-half notes (slow eighth-notes in the Tambourine), and provide the rhythmic ostinato upon which the work progresses. The parts can easily be divided to provide playing opportunities for up to 8 percussionists. Or use three sets of finger cymbals (sounds even better) and accommodate up to 10 players!- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -COMPOSER/ARRANGER: Now retired, Brian Harris holds the Ph.D. in Music Education from the Florida State University and was a public school and college band director for over 30 years. ___________________________Click here to view other Winter / Christmas Concert works from Bandroom.com Publications:Joy to the King (for beginners; super easy)Jingle Those Bells! Brass Ensemble,Brass Quintet Horn,Trombone,Trumpet,Tuba - Level 4 - SKU: A0.726138 Composed by Mateo Flecha (1481-1553). Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christmas,Latin,Sacred. Score and parts. 34 pages. Con Spirito Music #6565627. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.726138). Riu, Riu, Chiu is a villancico (carol) attributed to Mateo Flecha the Elder (1481-1553), a Catalonian composer and cathedral music director of the Renaissance era.Flecha (Catalan: Mateu Flexta) was well-known for his ensaladas (literally, salads - works for four or five voices - and villancicos, a type of popular song in the vernacular (common language). Orignally a secular genre, villancicos gained popularity in the second half of the 16th century as a religious song form. Devotional villancicos, which were often intended to teach and reinforce theological principles, became very popular in the 17th century and continued in popularity until the decline of the genre in the 18th-19th centuries.Riu, Riu, Chiu is a lesson in Catholic doctrine on the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary and the Incarnation of Christ the Redeemer. This arrangement presents four of the carol's seven verses as well as the refrain that opens the song and is repeated between verses. With engaging rhythms, clever harmonizations, and lively percussion, this arrangement is an ideal change-of-pace for any Christmas music program and a showcase for your ensemble.©Copyright 2021 Todd Marchand / ConSpiritoMusic. Chamber Orchestra - Level 4 - SKU: A0.922635 Composed by Johann Strauss Jr. Arranged by Aaron Meier. Romantic Period,World. Score and parts. 7 pages. Aaron Meier #5792353. Published by Aaron Meier (A0.922635). Original by Johann Strauss II Reduction to String Orchestra by Aaron Meier Part: Full Score ONLY True to the original work by Strauss, this reduction for string orchestra features the ornaments and mystical writing that defines Strauss' polkas. There are optional percussion parts to be added at the discretion of the ensemble, however even without percussion the ensemble will sound full (the percussion acts as an ornament). Difficulty: Intermediate-advanced - advanced (best-suited for advanced student ensembles) ---Performance Notes: • Approximate length: 3:30 minutes • 1st Violins: In m. 1, trill a half step from a D♠to a D♮ • 2nd Violins:  - At m. 42, divide players by 3, with 2 players playing line A and the remaining player playing line B  - At m. 72-75, emphasize the E♠in the div. • Snare Drum: The buzz roll needs to be quieter than how it is played in the midi recording (*see YouTube link ↓) History: The Olga-Polka itself owed its creation to a Russian royal wedding which took place in St. Petersburg on 28 August 1857. On that day, amid accompanying splendour, the music-loving Grand Duke Michail Nikolaievich (1832-1909), youngest brother of Tsar Alexander II, married Princess Caecilie of Baden (1839-91), daughter of Archduke Leopold of Baden. Johann Strauss, who at that time was giving a summer season of concerts in nearby Pavlovsk, used the opportunity occasioned by the event to enhance his already enviable popularity with the Russian royal family and composed the Caecilien-Polka in honour of the lovely young bride. Indeed, it is clear from a letter which Johann wrote in late July 1857 to Carl Haslinger, his publisher in Vienna, that the new polka had been prepared well in advance of the wedding (the fair copy of the full orchestral score made for the publisher's engraver is dated 9 August) and was enjoying success even before the royal couple's official engagement on 16August 1857. Sometime after performing the Caecilien-Polka in Pavlovsk, Johann despatched the work to the Austrian capital where his brother Josef conducted its Viennese première, together with that of Johann's waltz Telegraphische Depeschen (op. 195, Volume 28), at his own benefit concert in the Volksgartenon Sunday 18 October 1857. The Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung (16.10.1857) remarked that both works have caused a sensation in St. Petersburg and are truly genial Viennese sounds full of verve and melody. Since tradition demanded that the German Princess Caecilie adopt a Russian name - Olga Feodorovna - before her marriage, so Johann's Caecilien-Polka also underwent a change of identity. On 8 December 1857 Carl Haslinger announced the publication of Strauss's Olga-Polka, on the title page of which is the inscription: Dedicated to her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Olga, née Princess of Baden. It was under this title, too, that Johann himself first conducted the work in Vienna at a concert in the Volksgarten on 1 November 1857, shortly after his return from Russia. Reporting on this event, the Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung (3.11.1857) observed: The 'Olga-Polka' is a most delightful, fragrant musical bouquet, full of fine, gracious rhythms. Difficulty: Intermediate-advanced - advanced (best-suited for advanced student ensembles) --- Performance Notes: • Approximate length: 3:30 minutes • 1st Violins: In m. Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1176000 By Floyd Cramer. By Harry Warren and Mack Gordon. Arranged by Stewart J Wallace. Film/TV,Jazz,Standards. Octavo. 22 pages. Stewart J Wallace #776126. Published by Stewart J Wallace (A0.1176000). Chattanooga Choo Choo was recorded by the Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1941 and was the first song to gain a gold record for 1.2 million sales. It was featured in the film Sun Valley Serenade, released in the same year. Many other artists have recorded the song over the years, including Harry Connick Jr, George Benson, and Floyd Cramer. This is an SATB choir and piano arrangement that incorporates some scat-style accompaniment in the lower voices, with the melody sung by the sopranos. The opening will need some careful counting - fingers clicks might help - and throughout the rhythms should be sung with a relaxed, swing feel. The words need to be articulated clearly too. The piano accompaniment mirrors the voices in the main sections and provides block-chord accompaniment in the middle 8, but chord symbols also allow for some freedom from the score. The sheet music includes a SATB-only copy, so it could be performed a capella.

Steel ringing in rhythm to voices, the sound of metal slicing through wood in all its sweetness. A hot brilliant mid-day sun on the street. Ducking into the doorway, then tuning the piano. It must be a special day.The clock and church bell sounding in unison, the end of Tuesday’s labor.Humidity saturates El Tropicano, with the upright piano and a half-glass of amber. The piano montuno and bass tumbao, along with a half-complete catch of drums telegraph out the rhythms for the Casino dancing. Tall ivory women and shorter browner men in white hats, moving across the floor. ‘Still time for one more dance. Piano,Violin - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1022755 Composed by Stefano Maria Torchio. Concert,Contemporary,World. 4 pages. Stefano Torchio #3115915. Published by Stefano Torchio (A0.1022755). Stefano Maria Torchio: ScherzinoAs the title says (engl.: little scherzo), it's a small, playful, light and bouncy piece, that features a free atonal style and funny asimmetrical rhythms and metrics. It's not difficult but it could be wise to practice it slower at first, in order to check careful the intonation and the correct smooth and legato articulation between the fingers of left hand of the Violin player. The most careful precision in rhythm and differentiation between the articulations (that in general tends to a light staccato) is required. The piece is also suitable for school pourposes and concerts and also for liturgical ones (for example at the offertory or as final piece) by special festive occasion. Primarily it was composed for a wedding ceremony and it was for Piano and Organ and for Church Bell Carillon.Composer's dataStefano Maria Torchio is an Italian Violinist, Composer and Orchestra and Choir Conductor born in Padova, who builded his education between Italy (Conservatories of Padova and Vicenza, Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Accademia L. Perosi in Biella and R. Romanini Foundation in Brescia) and the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. He's member of S.A.C.E.M. for copyright protection. You can find me on: facebook, instagram (stefano.mus) and twittere-mail: stefanotorchio84@gmail.com
