Vibraphone Solo - Level 4 - SKU: A0.799421 Composed by Drake Mabry. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 12 pages. Drake Mabry #516773. Published by Drake Mabry (A0.799421). Ceremony II was written for the French virtuoso Emmanuel Sejourne. The work presents the vibraphone with an astonishing array of instrumental timbres. It uses a number of contemporary techniques including playing with a double bass bow, harmonics, note glissandi, playing with the pad of the fingers and the finger nails etc. The five movements may be played all together or individually. Some of the various moods presented are meditative, fast virtuoso, light and wistful, and questioning. The total duration is 19 minutes. This is a manuscript score, thus the reduced price.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - SKU: A0.870391 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by Randy A. Steinberg. Baroque. Score and parts. 24 pages. Randy A. Steinberg #1984027. Published by Randy A. Steinberg (A0.870391). Giovanni Gabrieli was no mere composer. He was an event. The figure at the nexus of many things all coming together in one grand tide. The greatest church in the greatest city of Europe. Freedom of intellectual thought. A Venetian School of composers at the forefront of musical innovation. The printing press and musical publishing. A Doge (Chief Magistrate or Duke) willing to spend, and spend big, on musical pomp and ceremony. A dearth of wealth and money to fund the grandest celebrations. He was the leading Italian composer and organist in Venice at its greatest heights at the chasm between the end of the Renaissance and the beginning of the Baroque period in music. One of the most popular of his smaller instrument works are the 4 Canzonas. Presented here is the second of them written around 1608. Quite popular among brass players, this work starts with a running theme that is almost fugue-like as it passes from one instrument to the next. A great work from Gabrieli, it is complex in structure yet never loses its pleasing sonorities that build until the final climax.

Brass Ensemble - Level 4 - SKU: A0.870396 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by Randy A. Steinberg. Baroque. Score and parts. 35 pages. Randy A. Steinberg #1985915. Published by Randy A. Steinberg (A0.870396). He was the leading Italian composer and organist in Venice at its greatest heights at the chasm between the end of the Renaissance and the beginning of the Baroque period in music. Presented here is an early Canzona published around 1615 for 6 brass. A variety of substitute parts are also included to handle the trumpet and trombone parts with French horns and tubas. The piece starts with a short song-like melody and rhythm that is then repeated with many variations throughout. A nice early introduction to the Gabrieli instrumental ensemble works, published shortly after his death, for a smaller single ensemble.

Flute Choir,Woodwind Ensemble Alto Flute,Bass Flute - Level 2 - SKU: A0.817937 Composed by Michael Praetorius (1571-1621). Arranged by Adrian Dee. Contemporary,Praise & Worship,Renaissance,Wedding. 10 pages. Adrian Dee #3511601. Published by Adrian Dee (A0.817937). This piece was originally written for vocal ensemble (Cantus I, Cantus II, Altus, Tenor I, Tenor II, Basso) and is typical of Praetorius’ flowing counterpoint and mellifluous harmonies. It would be a lovely addition to a wedding or similar ceremony, or for a quiet meditative moment in a religious service or concert program. The notes are easy, making this piece an excellent opportunity to focus on ensemble skills, such as balance and intonation. The work is only about a minute and a half in length. You might want to experiment with repeating the entire work, possibly with the top four voices (Flutes 1 & 2, alto, bass 1) up an octave. The tempo marking is only a guideline; do what feels right for your ensemble. The contrabass part may be covered by a third regular bass flute.Let me know what you think! adriandeeflute@gmail.com

French Horn,Piano - Level 3 - SKU: A0.549394 Composed by George Frideric Handel. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Sacred,Standards,Wedding. Score and part. 9 pages. Jmsgu3 #3492579. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549394). Duration: 4:55, Score: 6 pages, Solo part: 1 page, piano part: 2 pages. A very famous aria (Ombra mai fu) from XerxesSuitable for any venue requiring meditative music. Excellent choice for a recital encore. Xerxes Xerxes is, in fact, an opera seria in three acts by Handel. Moreover, Handel conducted the premiere performance in London in 1738. Handel casts the opera in Persia in 470 BC. The part of Xerxes was indeed originally sung by a soprano castrato. Nowadays, the part is generally sung by a mezzo-soprano or conversely a counter-tenor. In the first place, Xerxes sings an opening aria, Ombra mai fu to a plane tree. Handel sets this aria to one of his most truly famous melodies. Although many people call it Handel’s Largo, Handel has, on the contrary, clearly marked Larghetto in the score. Handel Background George Frideric Handel (1685 - 1759) was born in Germany but eventually became a British citizen. Nonetheless, he was a famous Baroque composer. In fact, he became famous for his operas, oratorios, anthems, and organ concertos. Handel studied music and, by and large, worked as a composer in Germany and Italy before moving to London. Overall, Handel was very familiar with the contemporary music of Italy and Germany. Career in England It is important to realize that Italian opera was all the rage in England at the time. Moreover, Handel was really good at writing them. Therefore, he started not one but three opera companies in England. Alexander's Feast was a huge success in 1736, but Handel nevertheless began composing English choral works. After success with the Messiah in 1742) he certainly never again wrote an Italian opera. Consequently, he died in 1759, a treasured genius. Accordingly, the English government gave him full state honors at his funeral. Hence, he is buried in Westminster Abbey in London. Legacy Music historians agree that Handel was one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era.  To demonstrate, his works such as the Messiah, Water Music, and Music for the Royal Fireworks remain consistently popular up to the present time. He composed the coronation anthem, Zadok the Priest for the coronation of George II. Nevertheless, it has specifically been performed at every succeeding British coronation since. His oratorio Solomon has by all means also continued to be prevalent. As a matter of fact, Sinfonia from act 3 was featured in the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. Handel was particularly prolific. To enumerate, he wrote over forty operas.  Since the late 1960s, we have expressly experienced a revival of baroque music. Similarly, we have seen a pique of interest in historically informed musical performances. Since his death in 1779, interest in Handel's music has all in all, expanded. Â

Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549391). Although many refer to it traditionally as Handel’s Largo, Handel has, on the contrary, clearly marked Larghetto in the score. Â

Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.1377886). I was recently invited to a farewell cocktail party for Robert Levin and Ya Fei Chuang on the occasion of their move from Cambridge, Massachusetts, to Salzburg where Ya Fei got a job teaching at the Mozarteum. John Harbison wrote a little piano duet for them, and it inspired me to looking into writing a grand duo for two pianos. Looking around, I discovered that Charles-Valentin Alkan (1813-1888) wrote a work with the title, Grand Duo Concertant for violin and piano. I immediately launched into a search for Alkan the composer and I discovered that he was a contemporary of Chopin, Franz Liszt, George Sand, and Victor Hugo. Like Liszt and Chopin, he wrote tons of music for the piano, and he was at the cusp of fame when he withdrew from society and remained a recluse for the last years of his life.Aside from the Grand Duo Concertant, I found his 49 Ésquisses to be especially lovely and beguiling. My work for two pianos is based on ideas from both works. I especially thought the beginning of the GDC fascinating because the LH sounded like a walking jazz bass line. That got me started on the Prelude, and then I organized the remaining movements of the work around the GDC with materials I found attractive in the 49 ésquisses.I. Prélude ... Assez animéII. Chamber Orchestra - Level 4 - SKU: A0.742491 Composed by George Frideric Handel. Arranged by Arte Nova Music Lab. Baroque,Concert,Standards,World. Score and parts. 77 pages. Arte Nova Music Lab #5042471. Published by Arte Nova Music Lab (A0.742491). George Frideric (or Frederick) Handel (/ˈhændəәl/;[a] born Georg Friederich Händel 23 February 1685 (O.S.) [(N.S.) 5 March] – 14 April 1759) was a German, later British, Baroque composer who spent the bulk of his career in London, becoming well known for his operas, oratorios, anthems, concerti grossi and organ concertos. Handel received important training in Halle and worked as a composer in Hamburg and Italy before settling in London in 1712; he became a naturalised British subject in 1727. He was strongly influenced both by the great composers of the Italian Baroque and by the middle-German polyphonic choral tradition. Within fifteen years, Handel had started three commercial opera companies to supply the English nobility with Italian opera. Musicologist Winton Dean writes that his operas show that Handel was not only a great composer; he was a dramatic genius of the first order.[6] As Alexander's Feast (1736) was well received, Handel made a transition to English choral works. After his success with Messiah (1742) he never composed an Italian opera again. Almost blind, and having lived in England for nearly fifty years, he died in 1759, a respected and rich man. His funeral was given full state honours, and he was buried in Westminster Abbey in London. Born the same year as Johann Sebastian Bach and Domenico Scarlatti, Handel is regarded as one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era, with works such as Messiah, Water Music, and Music for the Royal Fireworks remaining steadfastly popular. One of his four coronation anthems, Zadok the Priest (1727), composed for the coronation of George II, has been performed at every subsequent British coronation, traditionally during the sovereign's anointing. Another of his English oratorios, Solomon (1748), has also remained popular, with the Sinfonia that opens act 3 (known more commonly as The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba) featuring at the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. Handel composed more than forty opera serias in over thirty years, and since the late 1960s, with the revival of baroque music and historically informed musical performance, interest in Handel's operas has grown. Instrumental Duet Bassoon,Instrumental Duet - Level 3 - SKU: A0.549381 Composed by George Frideric Handel. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Baroque,Sacred,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 9 pages. Jmsgu3 #3492259. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549381). Although many refer to it traditionally as Handel’s Largo, Handel has, on the contrary, clearly marked Larghetto in the score. On the whole, Handel was very familiar with the contemporary music of Italy and Germany. Career in England It is essential to realize that Italian opera was all the rage in England at the time. Moreover, Handel was really good at writing them. Therefore, he started not one but three opera companies in England. Alexander's Feast was a huge success in 1736, but Handel began composing English choral works. After success with the Messiah in 1742) he certainly never again wrote an Italian opera. Consequently, he died in 1759, a treasured genius. Accordingly, the English government gave him full state honors at his funeral. Hence, he is buried in Westminster Abbey in London. Legacy Music historians agree that Handel was in general one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era.  To demonstrate, his works such as the Messiah, Water Music, and Music for the Royal Fireworks remain consistently popular up to the present time. He especially composed the coronation anthem, Zadok the Priest for the coronation of George II. Similarly, we have especially seen a pique of interest in historically informed musical performances. Since his death in 1779, interest in Handel's music has all in all, expanded. Â
