Cilia Black states that, rather than declining outright to record the song, she decided to set conditions: I said I'd only do it if Burt Bacharach himself did the arrangement, never thinking for one moment that he would. When the reply came back from America that he'd be happy to...I said I would only do it if Burt came over to London for the recording session. 'Yes,' came the reply. Next I said that as well as the arrangements and coming over, he had to play piano on the session. To my astonishment it was agreed that Burt would do all three. So by this time, coward that I was, I really couldn't back out. The song was a major hit for Cilla Black (UK) and Dionne Warwick (US).

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 2 - SKU: A0.1270160 By Arlo Guthrie. By Arlo Guthrie. Arranged by Craig Hanson. A Cappella,Comedy,Folk. Octavo. 6 pages. Edition Craig Hanson #862589. Published by Edition Craig Hanson (A0.1270160). For TTBB chorus a cappella and solo voice. As performed by Arlo Guthrie.Wanna hear something? You know that Indians never ate clams. They didn't have linguini! And so what happened was that clams was allowed to grow unmolested in the coastal waters of America for millions of years. And they got big, and I ain't talking about clams in general, I'm talking about each clam! Individually. I mean each one was a couple of million years old or older. So imagine they could have got bigger than this whole room. And when they get that big, God gives them little feet so that they could walk around easier. And when they get feet, they get dangerous. I'm talking about real dangerous. I ain't talking about sitting under the water waiting for you. I'm talking about coming after you.Imagine being on one of them boats coming over to discover America, like Columbus or something, standing there at night on watch, everyone else is either drunk or asleep. And you're watching for America and the boat's going up and down. And you don't like it anyhow but you gotta stand there and watch, for what? Only he knows, and he ain't watching. You hear the waves lapping against the side of the ship. The moon is going behind the clouds. You hear the pitter patter of little footprints on deck. ‘Is that you kids?’ It ain't! My god! It's this humongous, giant clam!Imagine those little feet coming on deck. A clam twice the size of the ship. Feet first. You're standing there shivering with fear, you grab one of these. This is a belaying pin. They used to have these stuck in the holes all around the ship… You probably didn't know what this is for; you probably had an idea, but you were wrong. They used to have these stuck in the holes all along the sides of the ship, everywhere. You wouldn't know what this is for unless you was that guy that night.I mean, you'd grab this out of the hole, run on over there, bam bam on them little feet! Back into the ocean would go a hurt, but not defeated, humongous, giant clam. Ready to strike again when opportunity was better. You know not even the coastal villages was safe from them big clams. You know them big clams had an inland range of about 15 miles. Think of that. I mean our early pioneers and the settlers built little houses all up and down the coast you know. A little inland and stuff like that and they didn't have houses like we got now, with bathrooms and stuff. They built little privies out back. And late at night, maybe a kid would have to go, and he'd go stomping out there in the moonlight. And all they'd hear for miles around...(loud clap/belch).... One less kid for America. One more smiling, smurking, humongous, giant clam.So Americans built forts. Them forts --you know—them pictures of them forts with the wooden points all around. You probably thought them points was for Indians but that's stupid! 'Cause Indians know about doors. But clams didn't. Even if a clam knew about a door, so what? A clam couldn't fit in a door. I mean, he'd come stomping up to a fort at night, put them feet on them points, jump back crying, tears coming out of them everywhere. But Americans couldn't live in forts forever. You couldn't just build one big fort around America. How would you go to the beach? So what they did was they formed groups of people. I mean they had groups of people all up and down the coast form these little alliances. Like up North it was call the Clamshell Alliance. And farther down South it was called the Catfish Alliance. They had these Alliances all up and down the coast defending themselves against these threatening monsters. These humongous giant clams. Andt hey'd go out there, if there was maybe fifteen of them they'd be singing songs in fifteen part harmony. And when one part disappeared, that's how they knew where the clam would be.Which is why Americans only sing in four part harmony to this very day. That proved to be too dangerous. See, what they did was they'd be singing these songs called Clam Chanties, and they'd have these big spears called clampoons. And they'd be walking up and down the beach and the method they eventually devised where they'd have this guy, the most strongest heavy duty true blue American, courageous type dude they could find and they'd have him out there walking up and down the beach by himself with other chicken dudes hiding behind the sand dunes somewhere. He'd be singing the verses. They'd be singing the chorus, and clams would hear 'em. And clams hate music. So clams would come out of the water and they'd come after this one guy. And all you'd see pretty soon was flying all over the sand flying up and down the beach manmanclamclammanmanclam manclamclamman up and down the beach going this way and that way up the hills in the water out of the water behind the trees everywhere. Finally the man would jump over a big sand dune, roll over the side, the clam would come over the dune, fall in the hole and fourteen guys would come out there and stab the shit out of him with their clampoons. That's the way it was. That was one way to deal with them. The other way was to weld two clams together. [I don't believe it. I'm losing it. Hey. What can you do. Another night shot to hell.] Hey, this was serious back then. This was very serious. I mean these songs now are just piddly folk songs. But back then these songs were controversial. These was radical, almost revolutionary songs. Because times was different and clams was a threat to America. That's right. So we want to sing this song tonight about the one last... You see what they did was there was one man, he was one of these men, his name will always be remembered, his name was Reuben Clamzo, and he was one of the last great clam men there ever was. He stuck the last clam stab. The last clampoon into the last clam that was ever seen on this continent. Knowing he would be out of work in an hour. He did it anyway so that you and me could go to the beach in relative safety. That's right. Made America safe for the likes of you and me. And so we sing this song in his memory. He went into whaling like most of them guys did and he got out of that, when he died. You know, clams was much more dangerous than whales. Clams can run in the water, on the water or on the ground, and they are so big sometimes that they can jump and they can spread their kinda shells and kinda almost fly like one of them flying squirrels. You could be standing there thinking that your perfectly safe and all of a sudden whop.... That's true... And so this is the song of this guy by the name of Reuben Clamzo and the song takes place right after he stabbed this clam and the clam was, going through this kinda death dance over on the side somewhere. The song starts there and he goes into whaling and takes you through the next...I sing the part of the guy on the beach by himself. I go like this: Poor old Reuben Clamzo and you go Clamzo Boys Clamzo. That's the part of the fourteen chicken dudes over on the other side. That's what they used to sing. They'd be calling these clams out of the water. Like taunting them making fun of them. Clams would get real mad and come out. Here we go. I want you to sing it in case you ever have an occasion to join such an alliance. You know some of these alliances are still around. Still defending America against things like them clams. If you ever wants to join one, now you have some historic background. So you know where these guys are coming from. It's not just some 60's movement or something, these things go back a long time.Notice the distinction you're going to have to make now between the first and easy Clamzo Boys Clamzo and the more complicated Clamzo Me Boys Clamzo. Stay serious! Folk songs are serious. That's what Pete Seeger told me. Arlo I only want to tell you one thing... Folk songs are serious. I said right. Let's do it in C for Clam...Iet's do it in B... For boy that's a big clam... Iet' s do it in G for Gee, I hope that big clam don't see me. Let's do it in F... For …he sees me. Let's do it back in A...for a clam is coming. Better get this song done quick. The Story of Reuben Clamzo and His Strange Daughter in the Key of A.

Complients à une duègnehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uo7KQ89pzz4Gérard Souzay, French baritone, said of Jacques Leguerneyâ??s music: â??How does one describe this music which is, at the same time, classic and modern? It is pure, but colorfully nuanced; it speaks to the heart as well as the mind: at times calm; at times witty; wise, yet sensual. The music of Jacques Leguerney is un jardin à la française, both elegant and stylish.â? Jacques Leguerney was born in Le Havre on 19 November 1906. His uncle bought his first piano and encouraged him to study and write music. He wrote chamber works, and took a few semesters of harmony with Nadia Boulanger, who arranged for a performance of his Epitaphe guerrière and Clair de lune in a concert organized by the Société musical indépendante at the Salle Pleyel. However, he decided not to continue his studies. He felt that his gift was natural and spontaneous, and that anyone who understood music should not have to do exercises to learn to compose. In 1928, Jane Bathori took an interest in Leguerney, including two songs during her tour in Argentina, and the following year at the Salle Erard in Paris. In 1932, when his father died, Leguerney took over the family business and stopped composing until the outbreak of World War II. The period extending from the German occupation of France to the end of the 1940s constitutes one of the important periods of Leguerneyâ??s musical life. He began his extended song cycle, Poèmes de la Pléiade, and wrote many songs upon poems of Paul-Jean Toulet. He also continued to compose chamber music, including the Sonatine pour violon et piano, the â??Fantasie pour pianoâ? and the Quatuor à cordes en Ré. An important year for Leguerney was 1943. He met musical colleagues who would become his major interpreters. These included Gérard Souzay as well as his half-sister, soprano Geneviève Touraine; pianist Jacqueline Robin (Bonneau), Pierre Bernac, and Francis Poulenc. Robin (Bonneau) particularly influenced Leguerneyâ??s style. His piano accompaniments were created specifically for her virtuosic and sensitive style of pianism. Bernac observed that Leguerney wrote melodies de pianiste. In 1946, Leguerney created a ballet on the mythological story of Endymion. The premiere was at the Opéra de Paris on 27 July 1949, with choreography by Serge Lifar. The Opéra de Paris immediately commissioned a second work, which was La Vénus noire, based upon a short story by Prosper Mérimée. This ballet was never produced, due to disagreements with the choreographer. Leguerney became discouraged and this situation was to lead to the end of his interest in composing. However, the years 1950-1954 brought Leguerney widespread recognition as he created his beautiful mélodie cycles including La Nuit, La Solitude (for piano as well as an orchestration), Le Paysage, and Le Carnaval, as well as the cantata Psaume LXII de David. Gérard Souzay requested many new works for his recitals and premiered La Nuit, Le Carnaval and

Tab is available on request: keithterrett@gmail.comA jazz solo is written out for you, if you wish you can improvise on the given chord symbols!A Night in Tunisia is a musical composition written by Dizzy Gillespie around 1941–42, while Gillespie was playing with the Benny Carter band. It has become a jazz standard. It is also known as Interlude. Gillespie called the tune Interlude and said some genius decided to call it 'Night in Tunisia'. He said the tune was composed at the piano at Kelly's Stables in New York. He gave Frank Paparelli co-writer credit in compensation for some unrelated transcription work, but Paparelli had nothing to do with the song. A Night in Tunisia was one of the signature pieces of Gillespie's bebop big band, and he also played it with his small groups. In January 2004, The Recording Academy added the 1946 Victor recording by Gillespie to the Grammy Hall of Fame.On the album A Night at Birdland Vol. 1, Art Blakey introduced his 1954 cover version with this statement: At this time we'd like to play a tune [that] was written by the famous Dizzy Gillespie. I feel rather close to this tune because I was right there when he composed it in Texas on the bottom of a garbage can. The audience laughs, but Blakey responds, Seriously. The liner notes say, The Texas department of sanitation can take a low bow.The complex ostinato bass line in the A section is notable for avoiding the standard walking bass pattern of straight quarter notes, and the use of oscillating half-step-up/half-step-down chord changes (using the Sub V, a tritone substitute chord for the dominant chord) gives the song a unique, mysterious feeling. The B section is notable for having an unresolved minor II-V, since the chord progression of the B section is taken from the B section of the standard Alone Together, causing the V chord to lead back into the Sub V of the A section.Like many of Gillespie's tunes, it features a short written introduction and a brief interlude that occurs between solo sections - in this case, a twelve-bar sequence leading into a four-bar break for the next soloist.

String Quartet Cello,Double Bass,String Quartet,Viola,Violin - Level 3 - SKU: A0.746989 By Dizzy Gillespie. By Dizzy Gillespie and Frank Paparelli. Arranged by Keith Terrett. Jazz. 13 pages. Keith Terrett #5820835. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.746989). A great sounding arrangement of A Night in Tunisia, your String Orchestra will love it!A jazz solo is written out for you, if you wish you can improvise on the given chord symbols!A Night in Tunisia is a musical composition written by Dizzy Gillespie around 1941–42, while Gillespie was playing with the Benny Carter band.

Choral Choir (TTBB) - Level 3 - SKU: A0.943040 By Toto. By David Paich, Jeff Porcaro, Prince Lamont Board Priese, and Robin Dimaggio. Arranged by Jonathan Kilhams. Pop,Rock. Octavo. 18 pages. Jonathan Kilhams #4797945. Published by Jonathan Kilhams (A0.943040). About the pieceAfrica is a song by the American rock band Toto. It was included on their 1982 album Toto IV, and released as a single on September 30, 1982. It reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart on February 5, 1983 (the band's only number one there), and number three on the UK Singles Chart the same month. The initial idea and words for the song came from David Paich. Jeff Porcaro explains the idea behind the song: a white boy is trying to write a song on Africa, but since he's never been there, he can only tell what he's seen on TV or remembers in the past.Paich said: At the beginning of the '80s I watched a late night documentary on TV about all the terrible death and suffering of the people in Africa. It both moved and appalled me, and the pictures just wouldn't leave my head. I tried to imagine how I'd feel about if I was there and what I'd do.In 2015, Paich explained the song is about a man's love of a continent, Africa, rather than just a personal romance. In 2018, Paich explained the song is about a person flying in to meet a lonely missionary. As a child, Paich attended a Catholic school. Several of the teachers had done missionary work in Africa, and this became the inspiration behind the line I bless the rains down in Africa.About the arrangementI have tried to keep as much of the original material used by Toto as possible, within the confines of a male voice choir arrangement. The arrangement is for TTBB and piano and can include sound effects made by the choir at the beginning to imitate rain and a thunderstorm. A bongo/djembe drum can be played through the choruses to add more of an African percussive feel. My thanks must go to Gareth Giles who helped create the piano part for this arrangement.Duration: 4 minsAdditional Parts & Social MediaIf you require any additional learning parts or rehearsal tracks then please contact me directly through www.jonathankilhams.com. I am also on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram so please let me know if your choir are planning to sing my arrangement - it is always nice to know where in the world it is being performed. Piano Solo - Level 3 - SKU: A0.1248632 By Herb Alpert. By Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Arranged by Timothy Stapay. Broadway,Film/TV,Jazz,Musical/Show,Singer/Songwriter,Standards. Score. 3 pages. Timothy Stapay #843127. Published by Timothy Stapay (A0.1248632). This is an arrangement of This Guys In Love With You for intermediate piano solo. This Guy's in Love with You is a song written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, and recorded by Herb Alpert. Although known primarily for his trumpet playing as the leader of the Tijuana Brass, Alpert sang lead vocals on this solo recording, arranged by Bacharach. An earlier recording of the song was by British singer Danny Williams titled That Guy's in Love, which appears on his 1968 self-titled album. As documented in an A&E Biography episode featuring Bacharach, the recording originated when Alpert, while visiting at Bacharach's office, asked, Say, Burt, do you happen to have any old compositions lying around that you and Hal never recorded; maybe one I might be able to use? Alpert said he made it his practice to ask songwriters that particular question: often a lost pearl was revealed. As it happened, Bacharach recalled one, found the lyrics and score sheet in his office filing cabinet, and offered it to Alpert: Here, Herb ... you might like this one.Lyrics:You see this guyThis guy's in love with youYes, I'm in loveWho looks at you the way I doWhen you smile I can tellWe know each other very wellHow can I show youI'm glad I got to know you, 'causeI've heard some talkThey say you think I'm fineYeah, I'm in loveAnd what I'd do to make you mineTell me now, is it so?Don't let me be the last to knowMy hands are shakingDon't let my heart keep breaking, 'causeI need your loveI want your loveSay you're in loveIn love with this guyIf not, I'll just dieTell me now, is it so?Don't let me be the last to knowMy hands are shakingDon't let my heart keep breaking, 'cause I need your loveI want your loveSay you're in loveIn love with this guyIf not, I'll just die.

Solo Guitar - SKU: A0.1364971 By Christopher J. Malin. By Christopher J. Malin. Arranged by Christopher J. Malin. 20th Century,Blues,Contemporary,Jazz,Pop. Individual part. 1 pages. Christopher J. Malin #949269. Published by Christopher J. Malin (A0.1364971). My first original work written out in standard notation and tablature. Originally written in 2017 and played out many times. I had help correcting some of the note value/rest timing. It's correct and meant to be played as written now. Please pay close attension to the rest values. It gives the music a breathing feel if you will.I would call it my personel musical language. The title comes from me asking a pro highly respected local musician, which is the saddest key to play in? He said D minor, hense the name. Of course it could be transposed to any key. Also my tablature is the way it evolved while playing it. I feel particularly, that the turn-around sounds best played in tha 5th fret position. It was written as a solo guitar piece but it could be the head for any minor key blues played with other musicians. I hope you will enjoy it. I certainly do! Thank you!

Arranged by Mario Stallbaumer. Pop. Score. 5 pages. Mario Stallbaumer #4301505. Published by Mario Stallbaumer (A0.510526). Here’s how to play “thank u, next†by Ariana Grande on piano! With this piano sheet music, you can play “thank u, next†on piano - you can use it as an instrumental arrangement, but also accompany singers, or sing along yourself. This “thank u, next†piano version is transposed one half step from the original key of Bb minor to A minor, so it’s much easier to play. These piano sheets come with all parts of the song, full lyrics included. It’s not too hard to play and sounds fantastic! However, there’s a more challenging arrangement of the song in the original key available, you can get it here: https://www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/21155619Ariana Grande certainly knows what it's like if one's personal life is making headlines. In November 2018, she released thank u, next, a surprisingly positive song about her past relationships and breakups (including Mac Miller, Pete Davidson and Big Sean), in which she comes to the conclusion that she learned from all of them!“thank u, next†serves as the lead single from Ariana Grande’s fifth studio album. Here are the song’s full lyrics:“Thought I'd end up with SeanBut he wasn't a matchWrote some songs about RickyNow I listen and laughEven almost got marriedAnd for Pete, I'm so thankfulWish I could say, Thank you to Malcolm'Cause he was an angelOne taught me loveOne taught me patienceAnd one taught me painNow, I'm so amazingI've loved and I've lostBut that's not what I seeSo, look what I gotLook what you taught meAnd for that, I sayThank you, next (next)Thank you, next (next)Thank you, nextI'm so fuckin' grateful for my exThank you, next (next)Thank you, next (next)Thank you, next (next)I'm so fuckin'Spend more time with my friendsI ain't worried 'bout nothin'Plus, I met someone elseWe havin' better discussionsI know they say I move on too fastBut this one gon' last'Cause her name is AriAnd I'm so good with that (so good with that)She taught me love (love)She taught me patience (patience)How she handles pain (pain)That shit's amazing (yeah, she's amazing)I've loved and I've lost (yeah, yeah)But that's not what I see (yeah, yeah)'Cause look what I've found (yeah, yeah)Ain't no need for searching, and for that, I sayThank you, next (thank you, next)Thank you, next (thank you, next)Thank you, next (thank you)I'm so fuckin' grateful for my exThank you, next (thank you, next)Thank you, next (said thank you, next)Thank you, next (next)I'm so fuckin' grateful for my exThank you, nextThank you, nextThank you, nextI'm so fuckingOne day I'll walk down the aisleHolding hands with my mamaI'll be thanking my dad'Cause she grew from the dramaOnly wanna do it once, real badGon' make that shit lastGod forbid something happensLeast this song is a smash (song is a smash)I've got so much love (love)Got so much patience (patience)I've learned from the pain (pain)I turned out amazing (turned out amazing)I've loved and I've lost (yeah, yeah)But that's not what I see (yeah, yeah)'Cause look what I've found (yeah, yeah)Ain't no need for searchingAnd for that, I'll sayThank you, next (thank you, next)Thank you, next (thank you, next)Thank you, nextI'm so fuckin' grateful for my exThank you, next (thank you, next)Thank you, next (said thank you, next)Thank you, next (next)I'm.

Published by Thomas Oboe Lee (A0.869266). Instrumentation: Alto sax solo and orchestra, 2222-4231-perc-drum set-strings Program note. Maestro Max Hobart called me in the spring of 2009 and told me to check out this young jazz phenom on the saxophone named Grace Kelly. I said OK, that’s cool. That summer we went to the Regatta Bar in Harvard Square to hear her play with her band, and I was duly impressed by her musicality, soulfulness and chops. Max asked if I would be interested in writing a concerto for her and the Wellesley Symphony. I said, Sure. It sounds like a great idea. One of the most cherished jazz records in my vast collection is the collaboration between Stan Getz and Eddie Sauter entitled Focus. Eddie, who used to be an arranger for the Benny Goodman Band in the forties, went on to create the Sauter Finegan Band in the early fifties. The band was one of the first to include the piccolo, oboe, bassoon, harp, celesta, French horn, tuba, xylophone, glockenspiel, chimes, timpani, and other unusual symphonic instruments in the standard big band format of trumpets, trombones, saxophones and rhythm section of piano, bass and drum set. On the album Focus Eddie Sauter composed seven tracks of music for string orchestra and rhythm section. Stan Getz did not have a written part - he just improvised over the written music. If you are not familiar with this recording, then you will do yourself a huge favor if you go find it and add it to your own CD collection. The music is phenomenal and Stan is on top of his game, soaring above the strings with endless melodic inventions, flights of imagination and whimsy! It is one of those desert island CDs one should not be without. When I emailed Grace about this project and mentioned Stan Getz’s Focus, she said, It’s one of my favorite albums. So, we got off on a positive note immediately. My work, Focus on Grace … Concerto for Jazz Saxophone and Orchestra, is very much inspired both by the Stan Getz album and by the performances I heard of Grace and her band. The first movement is based on a funk groove in D minor: Grace’s part is initially written-out but she improvises freely in the coda. The second movement is a boss nova: as in the Stan Getz album, Grace does not have a written part but improvises over a set of chord changes provided by the orchestra. The third and last movement is an Afro-Cuban groove in six-eight: Grace has a written melody at first but soon launches into improvisation on a 12-bar blues in F. She ends the concerto in a free cadenza to show off her virtuosity and saxophone chops. ENJOY!!!
