Ralph Vaughan Williams' Flos Campi for SATB wordless chorus Viola solo and Orchestra. Study score.This work is one of Vaughan Williams's most enigmatic pieces. Although the six movements all borrow their titles from the Old Testament's Song of Solomon the Chorus never articulates a single word. Instead it serves as a section of the Orchestra creating an elegant vocal texture and backdrop to the Viola's haunting solo lines.Flos Campi was premiered in October 1925 by the violist Lionel Tertis singers from the RCM and the Queen's Hall Orchestra directed by Sir Henry Wood.

This is the original orchestral version of Vaughan Williams´ famous fantasia which first appeared in his opera 'Sir John in Love'. Apart from the main folk-tune 'Greensleeves' the centre section uses another folk-tune entitled 'Lovely Joan'. This version adapted and arranged by Ralph Greaves has been popular in the concert hall and in recordings since it first appeared.Now out of print in the Oxford University Press catalogue this work has been newly engraved and reissued in this Goodmusic edition but otherwise unaltered.

The 1948 film 'Scott of the Antarctic' is well-known for its Vaughan Williams score which he later reworked to create Sinfonia Antartica. This is the first publication of Ralph Vaughan Williams's early work for orchestra Bucolic Suite which was completed in November 1900 and first performed by the Bournemouth Municipal Orchestra in March 1902. This attractive work is cast in four movements - Allegro Andante Intermezzo Finale - and already shows evidence of the composer's emerging musical style and sure grasp of orchestral techniques. This new edition has been carefully prepared from the original manuscript by Julian Rushton and comes with full textual commentary. This publication will be welcomed by all aficionados of Vaughan Williams's music.

Originally intended as the first piece in a cycle of four impressions entitled 'In the New Forest' Burley Heath was written in 1902 but never finished.The manuscript represents a 168-bar fragment which James Francis Brown the editor of this edition has completed by inserting a recapitulation of the initial material. Marking the first publication of this previously little-known early work this edition also contains an introduction by the editor.

Vaughan Williams wrote Symphony No. 8 between 1953 and 1955 while in his eighties. It is his shortest symphony and considered by many to be his least serious. Aside from a few sombre moments the symphony is optimistic in mood and displays Vaughan Williams' love for exotic and colourful combinations of instruments with a percussion section that he said employs 'all the 'phones and 'spiels known to the composer'. Forthis newly engraved edition editor David Lloyd-Jones has consulted all extant sources and materials to create a score matching the composer's intentions. Originally the title for Vaughan Williams's opera Sir John in Love Fat Knight was conceived as a seven-movement orchestral suite that drew upon the opera and had as its central character Shakespeare's Falstaff. Vaughan Williams never completed the work and left only a two-piano score the basis of this realisation.
