Edited by Fritz Naf. Requiem Op. 54. Sacred vocal music, Requiem. Single Part, Cello. Composed 1878. Op. 54. 8 pages. Duration 35 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.317/14. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2731714). ISBN 9790007201814. Language: Latin. During his most productive period as an opera composer, Camille Saint-Saens also wrote sacred works, among which his Oratorio de Noel has enjoyed great worldwide popularity. The colorful and opulently orchestrated Messe de Requiem was composed in 1878 in Bern. The composer dedicated it to his patron, Albert Libon. We have published this edition both with its larger orchestral forces and to enable perfomances of the Requiem in slightly reduced scoring (without losing the special characteristics of the work), in a version with a smaller orchestra consisting of 11 winds, two harps, organ and string instruments. Double bass. Sacred vocal music, Masses, Latin, Whole church year / Omni tempore. Single Part, Double Bass. Composed 1856. Op. 4. 12 pages. Duration 45 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.060/15. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2706015). Language: Latin. Carus-Verlag is now publishing this early work by Camille Saint-Saens in a critical new edition. Among the sacred works by Saint-Saens there are just two settings of the mass: the Messe de Requiem op. 54 from his middle period (1878), and the Mass op. 4 dating from 1856. This was first performed on 21 April 1857. Camille Saint-Saens was a devoted follower of historicism as part of the reform movement in French church music. This is more evident in the mass published here than anywhere else. The model for this work is the unison Messe Royale by Henry DuMont (1610-1683). Saint-Saens combined its Gregorian style in a convincing manner with contemporary elements of Romantic composition, an expressive chromaticism, which determines the harmonic progression. Alongside the orchestral forces, the Grand Orgue plays an important role. Used as a solo instrument, it is an equal partner in the composition. Duration 5 minutes. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.926400). ISBN 9790007261870. French. Text: Victor Hugo. In his poem Soiree en mer, Victor Hugo describes how the sea can be perceived very differently by two lovers at the same time in the same place. While the man perceives the deepening shadows on the dancing waves, the woman marvels at the stars shining ever brighter in the firmament. In nature, as in the words of the poem, the painful ambiguity that represents life at its core can be experienced. Like no other poet, Hugo captures this almost unbearable simultaneity of living and dying, of love and suffering. Saint-Saens translates this into music - probably the most ephemeral and contemporary of all art forms. His balanced musical form leaves plenty of room for the poetry and his subtle variations in timbre, which also inspired Denis Rouger to his choral arrangement, create a seething motion under the surface of the sea.
This art song was originally composed not for chamber choir, but for solo voice and piano. Denis Rouger has carefully adapted it to suit the requirements and expressive possibilities offered by a larger ensemble, without losing any of the qualities of the original in the process. Each part in the choir has a melodic line drawn from the harmonic and rhythmic framework. In the process, the variety and refinement of the choral language combines with an enormous flexibility in form and expression, as French melodies or German art song demand from a soloist and pianist. The songs have been recorded by the figure humaine chamber choir on the CD ...wo die Ztronen bluhn (Carus 83.514). $7.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks | | |

Edited by Fritz Naf. Requiem Op. 54. Sacred vocal music, Requiem. Single Part, Violin 1. Composed 1878. Op. 54. 12 pages. Duration 35 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.317/11. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2731711). ISBN 9790007201784. The full score reproduces the Urtext of the Requiem with its original scoring, whereas the performance material is presented and conceived so to enable it to be performed either in the original orchestration or the version with reduced forces. Organ. Sacred vocal music, Masses, Latin, Whole church year / Omni tempore. Single Part, Organ. Composed 1856. Op. 4. 32 pages. Duration 45 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.060/49. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2706049). ISBN 9790007199791. In 1860 Camille Saint-Saens composed his Oratorio de Noel for five vocal soloists, mixed choir, strings, organ and harp. The work, sung in Latin, is based on texts from the Old and New Testaments, the Psalms and Gospels, as well as the Catholic Christmas liturgy. A distinctive chamber music-like instrumentation, with lyrical soloistic parts and a modest choral part combine to create a basic pastoral mood which has led this Christmas Oratorio to become one of the most performed works by Saint-Saens. Carus offers this work both in its original version and in an arrangement in which the choir is accompanied solely by an organ. This work is now available in carus music, the choir app!
