Die lange Verbindung zwischen dem Flötisten Ernesto Köhler (1849 - 1907) und dem Verleger Julius Heinrich Zimmermann nahm 1880 ihren Anfang mit der Ausgabe von E. Köhlers Flötenschule, Zimmermanns erstem Verlagswerk überhaupt! Die Schule und auch die Etüden Ernesto Köhlers sind bis heute Standardwerke des Flötenunterrichts. Darüber hinaus komponierte er aber auch mehr als 100 Werke für sein Instrument, von denen viele ebenfalls bei Zimmermann erschienen. Die Serenaden op. 59, op. 70 und op. 74 erschienen 1892 zum ersten Mal bei Zimmermann und liegen hier in einer revidierten Neuausgabe vor.
