Includes two performance scores. With her composition Yin, Peilei Shang won the first prize at the Harald Genzmer Composition Competition 2016: Reminiscent of traditional Chinese music, Yin creates an individual and expressive atmosphere by means of sound effects embedded unobtrusively in the overall context. Special techniques are used in the flute and piano parts to produce the sound of the Chinese traditional instruments Xiao (like a bamboo flute) and Qin (a plucked instrument). A demanding and highly fascinating work for concerts and competitions. Shang, who earned her bachelor's degree in Beijing in 2014 and now studies in the composition class of Professor Manfred Stahnke at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre as an exchange student, has composed a large number of small pieces for various instruments and music genres and has already won several international prizes for her compositions.

The sonatas are not grouped according to their degree of difficulty, they are given in the order which corresponds with the Kirkpatrick nimbering. This is approximately identical with the order in which they were composed. In this way it became possible for the pairs of sonatas included in the selection to be placed closely after one another. Apart from inevitable minor alterations this edition follows the original text and its markings exactly. This does not apply to the fingering which is entirely an editorial addition. (In the original there is no fingering.) ABRSM Cello Syllabus title, 2011, Grade 7.

??Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992) is known for his unique composition style. Incorporating complex rhythms, harmony, melodies and his passion for ornithology, his Catalogue of Birds for Piano is no exception to the composer's popular, distinctive style. Messiaen became fascinated by birdsong from an early age, however, it wasn't until the 1950s that he took his passion to a new level, incorporating birdsong into all of his compositions. Catalogue of Birds, composed in 1958, comprises thirteen movements, each depicting a specific bird. The third volume contains movements five and six; Tawny Owl and Woodlark. Catalogue of Birds is essential to all advanced pianists seeking to expand and vary their repertoire.?.
