Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Turkish Rondo: Oboe: Instrumental Album

Mozart's Turkish Rondo is the last movement of his Piano Sonata No. 11 In A K. 331 and it is one of the most well known of all Mozart's works. It imitates the sound of Turkish Janissary bands the music of which was much in vogue at that time. Suitable for Grade 4 standard Trumpet.

In the ballet music the piano symbolises Western culture and the Ney flute Oriental culture communcated atmosperically by austere percussion instrumentation and soprano vocalisation.

From the comic opera filled with pirates Turkish princes kidnapping and daring rescues Mozart's The Abduction from the Seraglio is the piece of music that generated the (possibly fictional) ?too many notes?story. It is written in the Turkish ?janissary? style a style of music that fascinated Europe at the time. In this arrangement the right hand of the piano is frequently written 8va to help recreate the piccolothat figured prominently in the original.

This is a famous anecdote about the premiere of the opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail (The Abduction from the Seraglio), which took place on July 16, 1782 at the Burgtheater Wien (Vienna). It illustrates Mozart’s ambition and self-confidence. Throughout Mozart’s lifetime, Die Entführung aus dem Serail was his most successful work outside of Vienna. It is still a much-performed opera. Tohru Takahashi has made a lively arrangement of the overture in its original key, C major.
