None But The Longing Heart (Often translated as None But The Lonely Heart) is a song for solo Voice with Piano accompaniment. Written in 1869 it is the last in a collection of six Romancesthat formed the composer's opus 6. The words were originally written in German by Goethe and translated into Russian by Lev Mey. The English words have been produced here by E. Teschemacher.Pyotr IlyichTchaikovsky (1840 - 1893) is one of the best-known Russian composers in the west. He was the first Russian composer to write in the European style generating criticism from his peers for abandoning the Russian culturalheritage but gathering acclaim across both Europe and America.

John Dowland was unsurpassed in his day as a lute virtuoso and the composer of 88 lute songs. Since the early twentieth century Dowland's excellence as a songwriter has been well established; many of his compositions for lute- long shrouded in obscurity have become well known. This collection of 45 songs includes all the works in his third and fourth collection. Transcribed for voice and Guitar by David Nadal including Dowland's original lute tablature.

Prayer of the Heart was inspired by The Chain of Hope. This charitable organisation raises money for the treatment of heart disorders in children including Marfan’s Syndrome of which John Tavener is a sufferer. Thesinger should sit on a low stool bowing towards the heart. This facilitates the soul’s concentration and its unification in ecstasy. The Prayer of the Heart is prayed ceaselessly day and night awake or sleeping becauseit has become at one with the beating of the heart... Silence peace sweetness of union with God... The Prayer is not usually sounded with the voice at all it is silent. Therefore the music must be played and sungintensely quietly with no physical effort. The Byzantine bell and large Tibetan temple bowl may be played by the singer. Prayer of the Heart should be sung in subdued lighting perhaps by candlelight. The recording of theheartbeat should sound very tenderly and quietly throughout.

Baritone Voice-Four Traditional Songs is a setting of four heartbreaking and poignant folk songs by virtuoso contemporary composer Nico Muhly. Composed in 2011 the songs deal with themes of death murder and unimaginable events that are emotively arranged for Baritone Voice and Piano. Commissioned by Carnegie Hall in New York City and Wigmore Hall in London this work was first performed at those renowned venues in 2011 and 2012 respectively. Muhly states that he drew inspiration from old English folksongs and would spend time imagining stylised yet subtle musical settings with accompaniments. The result of this intensive periodof listening is Four Traditional Songs which lasts around 15 minutes and carries that incredible sense of sad balladry that counters the occasionally jaunty melodies. “Sonatas and quartets aren’t my thing”. Armed with this self-knowledge composer Isabelle Aboulker placed singing at the heart of her creative activity and garnered huge success in a variety of genres such as oratorio (The Man who Staggered Through War 1997) comic opera (Monsieur de Balzac fait son théâtre 1999) children’s tales (Douce et Barbe Bleue 2002) and the theatrical adaptation of narrative works (Une fille qu’on appelle Boule de suif 2014). Isabelle Aboulker also devotes much attention to melody as can be seen in this collection presenting a few of her most enchantingsuccesses. Her prosodic clarity and focus on the power of words crystallises a musical legacy that stretches from Rameau to Poulenc. This anthology of melodies for voice and piano – most of which are written for all voices – is delightfully eclectic: the melancholy perfume of the Lettre d’amour sits beside the unnerving eeriness of the merchant of souls (Au marché de Saint-Paul) while the limpid music of the La Fontaine’s Fables contrasts with the fever that animates Je t’aime a passionate vocalise dedicated to Patritica Petibon. A subtle sensitive art that enchants all who lend an ear.    

Lennox Berkeley's I Carry Your Heart With Me for medium Voice and Piano.'Sometime in 1970 I gave Lennox Berkeley a volume of poems by the American poet E. E. Cummings (1894-1962) since mysister Meriel Dickinson and I were commissioning him towrite a song-cycle for a whole programme of settings of Cummings. At the time he became involved with Chinese poetry and we were delighted with the Chinese Songs Op. 78.However a year or so later in July 1972 Berkeley did set a poem by Cummings. This was ‘i carry your heart with me’ from 95 Poems (1958) and he dedicated the song to the countertenorTay Cheng Jim.The manuscript leavesfew questions. Obviously the pedal sustains the sextuplet and triplet groups at the start and finish. It is possible that all the As in bar 32 of the left hand piano part should be flat although there are clashes like thiselsewhere. A few phrase-marks have been added on existing patterns.' - Peter Dickinson
