Antonio Caldara, with about 3,400 works to his credit, ranks among the most prolific composers of the Baroque era and of music history in general. From 1716 Caldara was employed as the Vice-Music Director at the Court of Vienna, where he quickly developed into the primary and favorite composer of the musically knowledgeable Emperor Karl VI. Caldara's festive setting of the sequence for Whitsun, Veni Sancte Spiritus, which may have been composed around 1725, is now made available for the first time in print. The catchy and compact piece is suited for concert performance and is also excellently suited for the liturgical context of Whitsun: during the Mass, for example, as entrance or exit music or as music for the offertory. Through similar scoring requirements Caldara's setting of the sequence can also be used with many compositions of the Ordinary without any additional effort. For most church choirs the tutti sections with Caldara's favored homophonic, yet effective vocal writing represent a grateful task. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2770200.

Cantica de Sancto Benedicto is a three-movement work for mixed choir, soprano solo, concert band and organ ad libitum - on Latin lyrics that relate to the life of Saint Benedict. It was commissioned by the city of Norcia in Italy, whereBenedict was born. The holy Benedict (480-547) is considered the founder of monastic life within the Roman Catholic Church. His enormous influence is especially owing to his monastic rule, the Regula Benedicti.Jacob de Haan has named the movements ofCantica de Sancto Benedicto after the Holy Trinity: the Father (Gloria Patri), the Son (Gloria Filio) and the Holy Spirit (Gloria Spiritui Sancto). The lyrics of thehymn Gemma Caelestis, (which, like the othertexts, were originally used in Gregorian chant) are voiced by the choir. To this purpose, Jacob de Haan composed new, choral-like, homophone music. The sequence Laeta Quies is rendered by the soprano; the verses (divided over the threemovements) are alternated with those of Gemma Caelestis. The work closes with an impressive grand finale, in which texts are used from the proprium of the mass in honor of the saint’s day of the holy Benedict (11 July). Notes to the conductor:For this cantata, there are various possibilities for the performance. The first involves a performance in which the choir and soprano parts are only accompanied by organ. Such a performance has several advantages: since the band never soundstogether with the choir and the soprano, no balance problems occur, and even a performance with a large concert band and a small cantata choir is conceivable. A special layout is also possible - with which you can set up a three-dimensionalperformance in a church. For example, the choir can sing in the chancel, accompanied by the choir organ; the soprano can stand on the gallery, accompanied by the main organ; and the band can be seated in another part of the church. The choir couldalso sing from a gallery. With layouts like this, working with two conductors is advisable. Choral parts available separately.Koorpartijen apart verkrijgbaar. “We are, inescapably, filled with Ruah, the Holy Spirit, from our first breath to our last. As Paul reminds the early church in Romans 8:9 ‘you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you.’ Paul is reminding us that we are filled with the Ruah of God and so should choose to live accordingly.†                                  – Ian Callanan (from the Introduction)  Drawing on the rich tradition of composer Ian Callanan’s musical background Ruah: Mass of the Breath of God is filled with Celtic themes and motifs. With the exception of the Our Father, the entire Mass is composed in the key of D, the key in which traditional Irish instruments are tuned, making the setting as accessible as possible. The recording models the sound of full Celtic instrumentation, though the setting is just as effective when simple accompaniment is used.  Ruah utilizes the Eucharistic Prayer for Children, yet the choice is by no means meant to be limiting. This is a setting composed with the entire assembly in mind, encouraging all to take a deep breath, then sing with the Ruah of God.

The late Thomas Lucas composed this Mass setting shortly before his untimely death at age 46. The keyboard part for this Mass was transcribed by WLP In Spirit and Truth series editor Thomas Jefferson from a live performance by Thomas Lucas and his choir at a festive liturgy in Washington, D.C. The faithful keyboard notation, rhythmic clarity, and rich choral harmonies capture the energy necessary to perform this musical genre with integrity and authenticity. “Lord, Send Out Your Spirit†is based on Veni Creator Spiritus, one of the most familiar Gregorian chants. The chant is sung at Pentecost Vespers, the dedication of a church, and for the sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Orders. It is also heard at consistories when the cardinals gather in the Sistine Chapel to elect a new pope. The psalm verses in this setting are appointed for Pentecost Sunday Mass during the Day, as well as being an option for a common responsorial psalm for Pentecost.
