The First Nowell is a traditional Christmas song that can be traced back to the 18th century. The word â??nowellâ? is in fact derived the French word for Christmas, â??noelâ?. The First Nowell is sung in Englishspeaking countries around the world, although the actual text may vary by region and local customs. The simple and beautiful melody has made this carol a Christmas favourite. Lorenzo Bocci turns the melody into an elegant flexible four-part arrangement. Lieflijk en hartverwarmendâ?¦The First Nowell ist ein traditionelles Weihnachtslied, das vermutlich aus dem Cornwall des 18. Jahrhunderts stammt.

** This is the spiral-bound edition for instruments other than keyboard and guitar.  The third volume in this popular series, Revival III features arrangements of fourteen familiar Christmas carols for contemporary ensembles. Christmas carols, like many traditional hymns, are often arranged for four-part choir and organ. With this collection, Tony Alonso focuses instead on the needs of the piano- or guitar-based ensemble, creating accessible carol arrangements for SAB voices, piano, and guitar. Also included is an optional alternate harmonization for the final stanza of each piece featuring a soprano descant. Although these arrangements can be utilized as choral anthems, they are truly intended to lead and inspire congregational song. They are compatible with the texts found in GIA’s hymnals and yet can be edited easily to agree with the version of the carol most familiar to the assembly. CONTENTS: Angels We Have Heard on High (G-10431) • Away in a Manger (G-10432) • Hark! The Herald Angels Sing (G-10434) • It Came Upon a Midnight Clear (G-10435) • We Three Kings of Orient Are (G-10443) • O Little Town of Bethlehem (G-10439) • Joy to the World (G-10436) • Once in Royal David’s City (G-10440) • What Child Is This? Valzer; O Tannebaum (Canzone natalizia - Germania); Schlaf Kindchen, also wohl (Ninna nanna - Germania); Scaramella (Italia); Ah, vous dirai-je maman (Francia); Die Nachtigall (Germania); Su, al combattimento (Galles); Au clair de la lune (Ninna nanna - Francia); Love will find a way (Inghilterra); Melodia francese; We shall overcome (USA); Melodia svedese; The first Nowell (Carola natalizia - Inghilterra); The Marsh of Rhuddlan (Galles)All the music presented in this booklet are arrangements of pre-existing melodies and were conceived to respond to the real need to provide students with simple or very simple teaching material, but at the same time of pleasant listening. For this reason these pieces can and must be treated elastically, adding or subtracting - as needed - parts, voices and instruments. The upper voice is always meant for a German recorder (with facilitated fingering); for this reason, the F sharp in this voice are not frequent throughout the collection. Considering the limitate extension of the parts, it is always possible to carry the pieces one tone higher or lower, according to personal didactic needs. Chords can be played by the teacher, or by capable students, on a keyboard or guitar.

Instrumental Ensemble Score and Parts for When IThink Upon Christmas (10/5191L) This contemplative Christmas hymn has a Celtic flavor, highlighted by the optional acoustic instrumental ensemble. It’s a lovely reflection on the meaning of the Incarnation and includes a chorus of THE FIRST NOWELL.
