2,1 2,1 2,1 2,1; 4331; timp, perc(3), cel, hp; stgs Duration: 11' Composed: 2013 Published by: Subito Music Publishing Performance materials available on rental: Alas! Babylon’s Final Sunset is another installment in my series of works that musically comment on the biblical books of Daniel and Revelation. The principal source of inspiration for this works comes from the 18th chapter of the book of Revelation. This chapter states that the career of Babylon the Great is finally coming to an end. The music begins with a mysterious pianissimo tremolo accompanied by tam-tam and bass drum. The initial flourishes in the oboes and English horn serve as the principal motive of warning. As the music continues, there are varying degrees of agitation among the strings and woodwinds. Throughout the work there are rhythmic motives in the brass, percussion, and various woodwind instruments that sing and speak Babylon is Fallen in triple meter. As the tutti ensemble arrives at a climax, the orchestral texture becomes thinner and slightly transparent. As the music continues, the opening motive returns in the oboes, however the counterpoint produces a series of solo laments. These passages are intended to provide picturesque images of these words: And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee; And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee. and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived. And in her was found the blood of prophets, and of saints, and of all that were slain upon the earth. Rev. 18:22-24 The following passages musically comment on the historical career of Babylon with a sense of her impending destruction. The series of laments transforms into the more emphatic rhythmic motive Babylon is Fallen. The orchestral texture begins to become more condense, once again, with the initial flourishes of, but with notable variations. Finally, the celesta, harp, oboes, English horn, and strings sing profundities that are finally transformed into a minor mode tonality that fades away with the ringing of the tam-tam. Babylon has finally seen her last sunset.

It goes without saying that having a strap on your ukulele when you're playing avoids a lot of potential problems. No dropping your uke. No sore arms from holding the uke with your forearm too hard, and you don't need to put the ukulele down when you're searching for your next song sheet. This high quality strap is made in light pastel colors that go perfectly with the Elise Ecklund signature ukulele purple sunset and mountains but doesn't look out of place on any other Flight ukulele. With an adjustable length, it can be used on any size ukulele. It also has high quality leather ends that add stability to the contact points with the instrument as well as a cute little star at the neck end. The journey into nature continues with this collection that engages the senses and allows students to experience the universe in an imaginative way. Every pianistic piece is rewarding and the styles are so varied: Sunshine in the Glen has a lush melody; Rockasaurus has a cool, rock beat; A Star for Finnian has a wee hint of Celtic flavor in G mixlolydian mode; Stirring Volcano is a sleeping volcano beginning to stir; The Rains of Autumn is Impressionistic and introspective; and you can see/feel the shimmering light bounce off the water in Sunset on the Lake. This is Mary Leaf at her best!

The Yamaha Piano Library, which began in the 1980s, is a series designed to provide students with new teaching materials and repertoire essential to music education. Today, pianists all over the world are required to play pieces from different eras with technique and sensitivity that reflect the characteristics of the music of that period. To meet these demands, this series offers a wide range of piano compositions from different periods, regions, and styles. Many of these pieces are not included in other collections and are selected as required pieces for competitions each year. This fascinating collection includes compositions from Germany, one of the leading countries of the Romantic period, as well as from all over Europe, Russia, the United States and other regions, ranging from the less frequently played to the standard pieces in a well-balanced manner. Arranged in order of difficulty so that they can be played according to the student's skill level, the 31 pieces composed for the piano by Romantic composers are selected for students studying at Bayer's later levels.

This collection of piano duets in popular styles aims to add variety to piano lessons by providing attractive pieces in a pop idiom. The part for the first player (Primo) is kept simpler than the accompaniment, so that various combinations of players are possible: student (melody) and teacher (accompaniment) or two students of different playing standards. In this way the young keyboard 'champions' become acquainted with ensemble playing, keeping the tempo, listening to each other, the conventions of modern rhythms and syncopation, as well as being at ease with pop harmonies.

Roger Zare is living every young composer's dream. At a tender age, he has already been lauded by the best, and his compositions continue to earn awards. Green Flash, his first publication with Theodore Presser Company, was written in 2007 for the USC Thornton Symphony, received a BMI Student Composer award in 2007, was chosen to be read at the 2008 American Composers Orchestra Underwood New Music Readings, won the ASCAP Rudolf Nissim Prize in 2009, and has now won the 2012 Symphony in C Young Composers' Competition. For more about Green Flash and a YouTube video of the premiere performance, see the composer's website (www.rogerzare.com/greenflash.htm).A “green flash†is a rare atmospheric phenomenon that occurs as a sunset reaches its end. If conditions are just right, then a spark of green will hover on the horizon for a fleeting moment as the sun disappears. I first witnessed this subtle effect in Florida in 2005. Seeing the mythical event for the first time inspiredthis composition. Green Flash is a musical journey from daybreak to sunset. It focuses on the manipulation of colors and textures throughout its five sections. The musical events are designed to paint a picture of various scenes during the day. The piece begins with the heartbeat of the world emerging from the silentdarkness of the night. As night transitions to dawn, waves of color propagate from the repeating low C, building up through the harmonic series to become the vibrant colors of sunrise. Eventually all twelve notes of the chromatic scale are sounding together. Abruptly, a morning fog engulfs the scene. Out of the mist rises the only melodic theme in the work, played by a solo English horn, and later taken up by other solo winds. Once the fog dissipates, the sky fills with the playful dance of wispy cirrus clouds. A rainbow-like halo surrounds the sun, adding a burst of color to the scene. This carefree, optimistic cloud dance is invaded by a menacing front of cumulonimbus clouds. A storm rages at a frantic pace, but in its dying breath yields the most glorious of sunsets. Only as the last glint of sunlight disappears below the horizon, a faint sparkle of green lingers in the atmosphere.
