Bertold Hummel's Symphonic Overture was initially part of the Orgeon Symphony. It was then revised as a work in its own right and given the title Symphonic Overture. This work, which lasts about eight minutes, is conceived from one thematic idea. It explores the technical recources as well as the rich tonal colours of the wind band. It is suitable both for concerts competitions. Bertold Hummel was a pupil of Harald Genzmer. Commissioned by Edwin Frank Goldman for the American Bandmasters Association, Paul Creston's Celebration Overture was premiered at the 1955 ABA convention. His third work for symphonic band, it is a standard of concert band repertoire and is included on several state contest lists. This 2016 edition (edited by John T. Madden) is completely re-engraved, correcting errors from the earlier original printing. Dur: c. 7:45.
