Sweet Is the Work

Love me sweet was composed for the occasion of the composer's wedding in July 2010. The text consists of four verses taken from Elizabeth Barrett Browning's ironic poem A Man's Requirements which ends with the couplet, 'I will love thee - half a year - As a man is able.' This setting responds to the purer sentiments of the earlier verses, employing a lilting metre, a harmonic idiom and a piquant sprinkling of dissonance. Petite Berçeuse by Alphonse Hasselmans is a really sweet melody that can be played on lever or pedal Harps. Easy to play for both hands it perfect for medium-beginners (second years). Written on a double page the finger positions are indicated to help the young players execute this piece properly. It will enable them to play a music piece aside from their usual exercises. Alphonse Hasselmans (1845-1912) was a Belgian-born French Harpist a great composer and renowned professor. He composed numerous pieces for Harp and transcribed numerous works for the Harp. He also edited and reviewed a collection ofworks by Bochsa. His most famous piece is a concert piece called 'The Wellspring Op. 44'.

Sweet and Lowdown Woody Allen's film from 1999 starred Sean Penn as the legendary but fictitious jazz guitarist of the '30s Emmett Ray. Emmett considered himself to be the second greatest jazz guitarist in the world next toDjango Reinhardt. The versatile Howard Alden played all of the solo acoustic guitar parts for the movie as well as coaching Mr. Penn to play guitar for his role (for which he received an Oscar nomination best actor). This bookcontains note-for-note transcriptions in both standard notation and tab of Howard's Django-esque interpretations and improvisations of classic standards of the 1930s as well as original solo guitar pieces written by Woody'slongtime musical director jazz pianist Dick Hyman. Sweet and Lowdown contributed greatly to the recent renewal of interest in and revival of swing and gypsy jazz guitar. Paperback-Sarah Quartel's God Will Give Orders/Sweet Child for SSAA solo Cello Djembe and Piano. This evocative anthem from the larger work Snow Angel is a piece of two halves. Opening with a haunting Cello line the first section ('God Will Give Orders') is mystical and ethereal until a vibrant figure from the Djembe lifts the music into the second section ('Sweet Child') which is uplifting and bold in character with a distinctly African feel and an effective a cappella ending.

Sounds And Sweet Airs is a work by Paul Mealor for SATB Choir with hand-held Percussion and Accordion. The various hand-held Percussion instruments are to be performed by members of the choir for this work which lasts around 4 minutes. This is the Vocal Score. Commissioned by Ty Cerdd for the National Youth Choir of Wales’s 2015 Tour of Argentina it was first performed by them at Llandaff Cathedral on 24th July 2015. Composed for Pedal Harps Sweet Blues is a piece of 4 minutes by Bernard Andrès. This melodious yet quite nostalgic work uses natural harmonies pinched sounds arpeggios and numerous pedal changes. Quite difficult it would be better for advanced players. Three parts can be differentiated: Lento Piú lento and Piú lento. The first part starts with a tune in natural harmonies only by the right hand followed by the same tune in pinched notes. The piece continues with soft ordinary sounds. Pinched sounds and natural harmonies re-appear in the last part before the quiet finale. Bernard Andres(born in 1941) is a world-known French Harpist and composer. Recognised for his work on both lever and pedal Harps and for chamber music pieces some of his most famous pieces are 'Elegy to a dead Shepherd' and 'Anamorphoses'.
