French composer, Robert Planel (1908-1994) was the son of composer and founder of the Music School of Montelimar, Alphonse Planel. Planel junior was an exceptionally accomplished musician, which is reflected in his composition, Romantic Suite for alto saxophone and piano. The sixth movement of Romantic Suite, Song of the Muleteer is a charming piece for intermediate level saxophonists. With a typical performance lasting about three and a half minutes, Planel's Song of the Muleteer addresses a wide range, dotted rhythms, articulation, dynamics, tempo changes, key changes and variety in performance directions. Planel's Romantic Suite is an exciting addition to the modern repertoire of the saxophone and cannot be missed by aspiring saxophonists.

Dancers is the second volume of a set of six pieces called Romantic Suite. Composed by Robert Planel for alto saxophone and piano, this second piece is for intermediate players. In Dancers, the piano starts on its own but is soon joined by the saxophone. The piece is divided in five parts, the first one being the main theme which is later repeated as the last one. The tempo is quite fast on most of the piece, except for the third section. The full set of six volumes features: 1. Italian Serenade 2. Dancers 3. Sad Song 4. Feeling Waltz 5. Christmas story 6. Muleteer's song. Robert Planel (1908-1994) was a French musician and pedagogue.

In his youth, when still searching for his own personal style, Debussy composed a series of short, stand-alone piano pieces. He took traditional genres such as the ballade, mazurka, nocturne and waltz, but in general used each of them just once, as if trying them out. One such was the “Valse romantique”, published by Choudens of Paris in 1891 and thus written at the same time as his famous piano works “Two Arabesques” and the “Suite bergamasque”. This charming waltz is of moderate difficulty and thus ideal either as a pedagogical piece or for concert performance. Our collected volume “Debussy: Piano Pieces” (HN 404) offers numerous other short piano pieces of modest difficulty for those who find that this practical, stand-alone edition awakens in them a desire for more.

This suite tells the story of John Stewart, the Duke of Albany (the old name for the Kingdom of Scotland) who lived from 1484 to 1536, and of Anne de la Tour, Countess of Auvergne. The first majestic movement is about John Stewart, who leaves for Auvergne in order to marry Anne de la Tour. The second movement begins beautiful and romantic describing the romance between Anne de la Tour and the Duke, followed by sounds of despair and loneliness. The celebratory finale describes the construction of a new chapel and the population dancing and celebrating.Deze suite vertelt het verhaal van John Stewart, de hertog van Albany (de oude naam voor het koninkrijk Schotland) die leefde van 1484 tot 1536, en van Anne de la Tour, gravin van Auvergne. Het eerste, majestueuze deel gaat over John Stewart, die naar Auvergne trekt om er in het huwelijk te treden met Anne de la Tour.
