Born in southern France, Auguste Perier (1883-1947) studied at the Ecole Nationale de Musique in Montpellier before entering the Paris Conservatoire. Whilst studying, he won the 1904 first prize for clarinet, proving his significant ability on the instrument. Therefore, his Complete Study of the Clarinet is very well-informed. The ninth volume of the series, 22 Modern Studies is suitable for clarinetists of grades seven and eight standard. Whilst addressing modern tonality and rhythmic elements, 22 Modern Studies also addresses features including articulation, dynamics, scales, arpeggios, accidentals, ornamentation, performance directions, tempo markings, phrasing, key and time signatures, and complex rhythms, among other aspects. Perier's Complete Study of the Clarinet (22 Modern Studies) is essential to advanced clarinetists seeking to improve their technique for performances of modern repertoire to a high standard.

“Like a technical encyclopedia for the Clarinet, 25 Technical and Melodic Studies provides a detailed guide to establishing high standard technique on the instrument. Jeanjean's first volume in the compilation covers all aspects, from complex rhythms to articulation, making the book a must buy for all clarinetists. As a noted virtuoso Clarinet player himself, Jeanjean's understanding of the practice of technical elements is second to none. The 25 Technical and Melodic Studies supply steady development in the context of seven solo studies, five studies for three Clarinets, and one duet study. This Paul Jeanjean study book cannot be missed by aspiring clarinetists.”.

French clarinetist and composer, Hyacinthe Klose (1808-1880) is predominantly known for his design improvements to the Clarinet and Flute. However, his passion for the Clarinet is also apparent in his aids to the learning of the instrument, as in his book, Studies and Exercises. With revisions made by clarinetist and composer Paul Jeanjean (1874-1928), Studies and Exercises, Characteristic Studies for Clarinet covers, in a variety of styles, articulation, breath control, ornamentation, range, scales and arpeggios, among other aspects. Containing input from two well-established clarinetists, this study and exercise book cannot be missed by aspiring Clarinet players..

The 40 Studies compiled by Cyrille Rose are still today one of the most used by clarinetists. Adapting major violin studies of the 18th and 19th century, Rose made an excellent choice of technical and expressive materials. He freely changed the tone, articulations and note ranges to adapt as much as possible to mechanical and physiological specificities of the clarinet. Nevertheless, each study is a challenge that must be overcome by a slow and patient work which, if properly structured, develops and strengthens greatly the capacity of the clarinetist. In this new edition, the references of original studies are provided, supplemented by a brief biography of their authors. Finally, you will find, at the end of the book some ways of working. ; Instruments: Solo Clarinet; Difficuly Level: Grade 3.
