??Sonata in F is a piece for Saxophone duet by Jean-Marie Leclair. Arranged and adapted by Jean-Marie Londeix, this sonata is perfect for intermediate players and is a great piece to play in a recital. It lasts 11?30 minutes and is divided in four parts: Andante, Allegro, Largo and Allegro ma non troppo. More lyrical than the first one, the second part contains two repeat signs and the third one is surely the shortest. The piece is very cheerful and really nice to listen to. The book features score and parts. Jean-Marie Londeix is a musician who studied the Saxophone and the Piano. He also had some strong knowledge of chamber music, harmonies and of music history and obtained a First Prize and a Prize of Honour at the Paris Conservatoire.?.

With Repertoire spanning from the Baroque to contemporary eras, Recordings, Etudes, Technique, and Orchestral Excerpts, this comprehensive series serves as a balanced and organized pedagogical resource from the beginner to advanced levels of study. Nine progressive volumes of Repertoire expose students to original works and arrangements of diverse styles from W.A. Mozart to Violet Archer, with selected works by notable jazz artist Paul Desmon (Take Five), and living composer Phil Woods. Each level provides opportunities to explore Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and contemporary works, with original, unaccompanied selections from Levels 5 through 8 that use extended techniques such as multiphonics, key clicks, and bisbigliando. Earlier works pre-dating the origin of the saxophone have been carefully arranged with consideration of the unique quality of the instrument. Composed by J.S. Bach originally for flute and piano, this edition of 6th Sonata was arranged for alto saxophone in E flat and piano by Marcel Mule. Its difficulty would fit the skills and abilities of intermediate players. In terms of composition, this piece was created in four different sections: Adagio ma non tanto, Allegro, Siciliano and Allegro.Marcel Mule (1901-2001) is one of the greatest French saxophonists, renowned worldwide for his work on the classical saxophone repertoire. He was teaching his students how to obtain a good quality of sound and believed it was dependent on the embouchure, the emission, the mastery of vibrato and thus of breathing. He wrote different methods that focus on technique, articulation and tone productions such as Scale and Arpeggios (in three books), Daily Exercises After Terschack or 30 Great Exercises or Studies After Soussmann (in two books), among others.

Mozart's Finale from Sonata No. 11, KV 331, also known as Rondo alla Turca, is one of his most recognized works. This tuneful, lively work was composed in the late 1770s, and since then has been transcribed for many ensembles. Two objectives were in mind while transcribing the Rondo alla Turca. One was to produce a relatively clean manuscript with a minimum of articulation and dynamic markings so as to allow interpretation by the performers. Such markings found here are provided only as suggestions. Secondly, rather than featuring just the solo soprano saxophone, the melodies were given to other parts as well.

The character of the opening movement, Allegro, is determined by the sonata form with two themes. In the course of its development, the first theme takes on a jazz-like diction. In contrast, the second theme has the character of a ländler (folk dance in 3/4 time). As the movement continues, interactions and contrasts between the two themes create charming moments. The second movement, Sostenuto, has the form of an arch. Above a pedal-point, the melodic material of the movement is presented. In Arioso, chorale-like episodes alternate with recitative-like insertions. At the medial section of the movement, the Gregorian hymn Veni creator spiritus is heard---played by the saxophone. A substantially reduced reprise closes the movement in extreme pianissimo. The final movement, Presto, with its variable metrical structure, has a rondo-like character. Three different musical ideas emerge and are tossed together into a colourful mixture. A terse Stretta concludes this playfully virtuoso movement. Arranged for E-flat alto saxophone and piano. Titles: Allegro * Sostenuto * Presto.

My Sonata for Alto Saxophone and Piano (2018) was commissioned by Joonatan Rautiola. Composing for such a great virtuoso is a privilege: whatever I write, I can be sure that Joonatan will play it exactly the way I had envisioned. The Sonata is the only work I have written in two distinctly separate stages. In 2008 Mantta Music Festival commissioned a work for alto saxophone and piano - which was also premiered by Joonatan. Already then Joonatan proposed that I enlarge the work into a full Sonata. This happened finally, ten years later. It was interesting to revisit my idiom and thinking of 2008. Much has changed, but much hasn't. In the finale of the Sonata I use, once again, my beloved Venezuelan merengue rhythm. The finale ends the work in a euphoric mood. There are, however, also some more somber passages in the Sonata.
