Herald the joy of the Christmas season with this delightful medley by Mark Hayes. Opening with bell-like chords, it quickly segues into an energetic call-and-response as all of heaven and nature sings the news. Flowing quickly and easily through a sumptuous series of key changes, the medley incorporates phrases of beloved traditional carols, including “O Sanctissima†(the Sicilian “Mariner’s Hymnâ€) and “In dulci jubilo†(Good Christians All, Rejoice). The festive original music returns, rising to a brilliant finish as all exclaim, “The Lord is come!†For a multi-generation celebration, children’s and/or youth choirs can sing along. Larger choirs will rejoice in Mark’s festive orchestration for woodwinds, brass and percussion. Smaller choirs will love the smaller orchestration for 2 trumpets and handbells.

Christmas Carol Trilogy is a perfect opening or closing piece for the holiday concert. This arrangement incorporates three of the most famous traditional carols: O Come, All Ye Faithful, What Child is This? and Joy to the World. Michael J. Miller has written a band arrangement based on this choral arrangement (YPS223). Miller's arrangement can either serve as a band accompaniment or as a stand-alone band arrangement. Choral and band directors can now have a piece for holiday concerts where both can play and sing together!.Christmas Carol Trilogy was arranged because it is often difficult to find a medley of standard Christmas/Holiday carols to use as an opening or closing piece for the holiday concert. Choral and band directors can now have a piece to close a holiday concert where both can play and sing together! This expressive medley combines two beloved Christmas carols, creating a gentle lullaby. Even so, it has moments of joy that are sung forte, and lots of dynamic contrasts that help the lyrics come to life. As you work on this piece, try to remember the volume level that is indicated in the score. Its very easy to sing everything mezzo-forte while you are learning words, notes, and parts, then add the dynamics in later. However, when you practice this way, you will have to un-learn the medium dynamic level. Be sure to follow your director very carefully, so that the tempo changes are accomplished together. These subtle variations will create a moving experience for you and for your listener. Let the celebration of this joyous season be seen on your face and heard in your voice!.This expressive medley combines two beloved Christmas carols, creating a gentle lullaby.
