The Thirty Short Chorale Preludes op. 135a were first published in 1915 by N. Simrock-Verlag. Any trace of the engraver's manuscript owned by the publisher's family was lost in 1929 with the disbanding of the company. It only resurfaced in 2019 in the Archive of the Prague Conservatory. It has therefore been possible to use Reger's autograph as a second primary source in preparing this revision of the musical text of the Reger Complete Edition.

During his short lifetime Max Reger (1873-1916) was a prolific composer with many of his best known works being composed for organ. The ten chorale preludes in this selection are from his set of Thirty Short Chorale Preludes Op.135a composed as short voluntaries for liturgical use rather than for recitals in these arrangements Philip Sparke has kept this in mind and each prelude can be performed with minimal instrumentation for those occasions where a small band is needed. They also make great pieces for band warm-ups or studies in intonation, sound and balance.

Long a standard of organ repertoire, this set of short preludes and fugues, commonly attributed to Bach, is now available for pianists and organists who use minimal pedal or lack adequate pedal boards. While retaining the 'sound' of the original, some adjustments were made to octave doubling and voicing in order to make the pieces playable without a pedal board. These pieces are enjoyable to play at home and serve as excellent postludes for worship.

Composer Scott Aaron Miller has created a collection of seven short preludes, for solo piano, in different styles. Some follow a style close to Scriabin while others go further back to even reach Rameau. However, each one holds the individual personality that Mr. Miller has acquired over the years as a seasoned composer.

Composed by Federico Mompou, Piano Preludes is a set of four pieces with two hands for upper intermediate players. It covers the Preludes Nos. 1 to 4 written in 1928. Each of these preludes is written on one to four pages and canbe played separately. The first one is short, to be played like a romance, with chords only. The second one lasts longer and features distinctive parts, starting with an energetic section followed by a sudden musical burst, therest of it being slower until the animated close. The third prelude is quite slow and very expressive while the last piece of this book is quite short and simple. Federico Mompou was a Spanish pianist and composer. He composednumerous pieces for piano and some songs.

The 48 Preludi of the Venetian composer Renato de Grandis (1927-2008) were created, in large part, in the years 1998-2002. It was only subsequently that he arranged them in 4 cycles of 12 preludes each, while also drawing back on older compositions. Written in a traditional pianistic style, they are short sketches which are sometimes characterized by musical thoughts, sometimes by moods or natural phenomena. The fourth volume presented here is once again divided into two cycles of 6 preludes each, with the first cycle paying tribute to the landscapes and towns of Friuli north of Venice.

The melodies from George Gershwin's (1898-1937) musicals, from 'Porgy and Bess', from orchestral pieces like 'Rhapsody in Blue' or 'An American in Paris', we all know them! But the career of the young musician started as a pianist in a music publishing house where he was to encourage customers to buy music by playing it. Soon he began to compose music himself and caught the attention of the Broadway, which paved the way to his international career. Inspired by Frederic Chopin's 24 Preludes, he began to write his own 'Preludes' for the piano in the mid-1920s: Of the five preludes composed by him, he used two for the violin composition 'Short Story' and presented the other three at a concert on 4 December 1926. These 'Preludes' combine classical moments and jazz elements into an effective whole and can be played individually or as a little jazz sonata (fast - slow - fast). Thanks to the present arrangement, the charming miniatures are now available in a version for solo instrument and piano accompaniment.

Main source of the present editions is the manuscript by Manuel M. Ponce, kept in the Manuel M. Ponce Archive, located in the Cuicamatini library of the Facultad de Música de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. The preludes were composed around 1929 after the invitation of Segovia who, urged by the publishers to write a method, asked Ponce to compose some short pieces to include in this didactic project. In April 1930 Segovia published only 12 preludes with Schott publishing house. Many of Ponceâ??s manuscripts remained unknown for a long time, until 1977, when the Mexican guitarist and musicologist Miguel Alcázar, thanks to the collaboration of Carlos Vázquez, pupil and heir of Manuel Ponceâ??s manuscripts, began an important recovery of Ponceâ??s guitar music by preparing the first complete edition of the preludes.
