The volumes of the series 'Music for Beginners' cover the entire music literature from the earliest centurties to our days. The material of the individual volumes containing short, easy pieces to be played in the first three-four years of studying the instrument has been compiled by accomplished music teachers. The majority of the contemporary works included in the voluumes have been published in this series for the first time.

Each book in series presents a composer trough a selection of brief pieces. The first volumes help the young pianist to become acquainted with the music of Händel, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, J. S. Bach and Weber. Most of the works are dance movements, although some sonatinas or sonatas have also been included. All the books contain a variety of compositions easy to play but of undoubted musical value. The selection is the work of four well-known music pedagogues, Magda Csurka, Gábor Kováts, András Héra and József Sármai.

Clara Schumann (1819-1896), then Clara Wieck, wrote this collection of six Soirées musicales in 1835-1836, when she 16 or 17 years old. Reflecting the influence of Mendelssohn and Chopin, each melodic piece shows her clear understanding of the formal and harmonic tendencies of those two master composers. Her later husband Robert Schumann would say of Clara's Soirées musicales as boasting a wealth of unconventional resources, an ability to entangle the secret, more deeply twisting threads and then to unravel them. The piano series entitled Album leaves is an open piece, like an imaginary keepsake album which is continually added to, and the pages are connected through the owner of the album. The movements that form the series begun in 1983 can be played singly, independently of each other and also in a freely chosen sequence. If the work is played as a cycle, the order of subsequent movements is optional, but the sequence must begin with the movement Introduction, and must end with Postludium. The loose album-leaf series of the 19th century piano literature (the works of Schumann, Mendelssohn, Liszt) or Gyorgy Kurtag's piano-piece cycle Jatekok (Games) can equally be considered as the antecedents of or inspiration for the series.
