Before the implementation of the new translation of The Roman Missal, the Mass of Redemption enjoyed a high level of popularity in parishes across the country and beyond. With the advent of the new translation, this Mass has become even more popular. Steve Janco rewrote the Gloria for the new translation and his through-composed setting is energetic and bright, bringing a sparkle to the new text. The Mass is written in the bright key of D major, bringing a joyful quality to the celebration of Sunday Mass, especially during the Christmas and Easter seasons, as well as the Sundays of Ordinary Time. Set for cantor, choir, assembly, keyboard, and guitar (with optional instrumental parts for brass quartet and timpani, two woodwinds, and handbells), the choral writing is in two parts (SA/TB) with optional third voice, often a soprano descant, at climaxes in various sections. Music directors agree that the simple choral arranging makes this a setting appropriate for parishes that do not have the musical “forces†to sing many of the more vocally complex Mass settings. Mass of Redemption brings the choir, musicians, and assembly together in a symphony of praise and thanksgiving for the great gift of redemption in Christ—a wonderful setting to raise hearts and voices to God at Sunday Mass. Join the hundreds of parishes that have made Mass of Redemption a musical staple and a reliable setting of the Mass. Parishes simply never grow weary of singing this setting!  Highlights: Highly popular among parishes before the implementation of new texts, now even more widely used! Written in the key of D major, bringing jubilance to the celebration of Mass. A variety of options for instrumentation with simple choral arrangements—ideal for smaller choirs. A delightful setting for the Christmas and Easter seasons and ideal for Sundays during Ordinary Time.  .

In this powerful offering from Mark Hayes, we journey with Christ through Holy Week, experiencing momentous events that changed history for all of humankind. Mark's distinctive compositional voice adds to the drama of the work. Masterful arrangements of Twila Paris's Lamb of God and Keith Getty and Stuart Townend's The Power of the Cross, along with an unforgettable mezzo soprano solo inspired by Michelangelo's Pieta, contribute to a truly compelling work for Easter worship. This work may be performed during Holy Week by excluding the final movement or in its entirety for Easter and Eastertide. The beautiful piano accompaniment reflects Mark's keyboard artistry, and his masterful orchestration offers an added dimension to the drama. The Power of the Cross provides an artful and poignant reminder of Christ's sacrifice of love, His triumph over death, and His promise of redemption for us all.

Written in memory of innocent victims, this dramatic piece is ideally performed within a church. It uses texts form the Gospels, St Ephrem the Syrian, the Old testament, Shakespeare and from Mathnawi of Jalal al-Din Rumi. The work begins in a musical wasteland, seemingly hopeless and without redemption. Words are turned upside down with apocalyptic screams from the organ. The work ends with an echo of this opening, but the suffering this time is inside redemption. All the various streams come from this and flow back into it in the pianissimo canon The son of man is come to save that which is lost. Contains detailed performance suggestions; duration is 25 minutes.

Easter! Resurrection Sunday! Believers across the world gather to offer praise and thanksgiving as they celebrate our Lord’s glorious victory over death, hell and the grave! Cries of “Hallelujah, He is risen!†ring out in the halls of cathedrals, from behind pulpits, and within the walls of our churches; they soar around the globe on broadcast signals, are proclaimed on the hillsides, shouted from the shores during Easter Sunrise services, and rise up from choir lofts, as singers lift their voices to sing of our Redeemer and conquering King. Yes, Hallelujah! He is risen! But before God’s awesome display of resurrection power raised Christ from the dead, the Savior had to walk that long, lonely road leading to Calvary. It is on that dark and dangerous road, through a journey of sorrow and suffering, that Christ willingly went to the cross. There He died for our sins, paying the ultimate price for our redemption. ROAD TO CALVARY, the new Easter musical from Word Music & Church Resources, arranged by Daniel Semsen, walks us down the path leading to Calvary’s road. Together we follow His footsteps as Jesus traveled from Nazareth, across the hills of Galilee, traversing the Mount of Olives, and walking a lifetime of steps toward Gethsemane. There He prayed all alone in the garden, agonizing over the terrible pain and suffering He knew He would soon endure. Carrying the weight of our sins up Calvary's hill, He gave His life’s blood for the redemption of every man, woman and child; there He established this unimaginably beautiful truth for all people, for all time...Calvary covers it all.

Psalm 130 is one of the most dramatic and certainly one of the Old Testament texts has most often been set to music by composers. Out of the depths have I cried unto thee, O Lord ... who shall stand? Matsushita set this lament pianissimo, chordally and in a low-register, using chromatically altered chords with sparse, detached sounds. In contrast, as the aim and climax of the work he sets, most effectively the hopeful second part half of the text, with the Lord there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption. With the (optional) use of two hand bells he introduces the convincing, optimistic section in F major, which, however, through a reminiscence of the opening de profundis leads into a short coda: but actually Redemption is only optimism, something for the future and not reality. The level of difficulty should pose no problems for a sufficiently-sized choir with sure intonation. It is most impressive when sung either for worship services or in concert. World premiere: March 2016 in Stuttgart, Germany.
