Composed for oboe and piano accompaniment, Piece V by Cesar Franck is a melodious piece for intermediate players. The piece begins with a quiet introduction starting Andantino quasi allegretto. The main theme is then played twice with the piano introducing each phrases followed by the oboe repeating them. The piece ends in a really nice harmony between the oboe and the piano. There is no major difficulty in this really soft work which would be thoroughly enjoyed by the audience during a recital. Cesar Franck (1822-1890) was a renowned musician (organ and piano), composer and professor born in the United Kingdom of Netherland (Liege) who was based in Paris. Even though he only produced few compositions, some of these pieces were very famous such as Symphony in D minor and Prelude, Chorale and Fugue among others.

This is an updated edition of Francis Poulenc 's 1962 work Sonata For Oboe And Piano , edited by Millan Sachania . Featuring the full score and a separate Oboe part, this exclusive edition also includes a download card, giving you instant online access to demonstration and accompaniment tracks. Originally completed in 1962, Poulenc 's Sonata For Oboe And Piano had been brewing in his mind for at least five years. The last of Poulenc 's trio of sonatas for woodwind instruments, he tragically passed away before it could be definitively engraved, leaving behind a work with a number of ambiguous notational marks that resulted in an incomplete first edition, publishedposthumously. A number of revisions have taken place, but this, expertly edited by Millan Sachania , aims to provide a playable, legible, precise and authoritative score that reflect closest Poulenc 's intentions. This new edition revises many minor details, including Piano chords, tied notes, the correction of various bars throughout as well as his crescendos during the third movement. At all points, Sachania has aimed to reproduce an authoritative and accurate score that is at once playable and a reflection of what Poulenc himself may have intended. This is a most exciting prospect considering the reputation that this work has garnered as a piece of profound poignancy. Dedicated to Sergey Prokofiev, it has been said that the mournful final movement, Deploration , is something of an obituary. What makes this edition of Sonata For Clarinet And Piano really special is the unique download card that provides exclusive online access to demonstration and accompaniment audio tracks. Professionally-recorded by renowned oboist Christopher Cowie and pianist Huw Watkins, the demonstration track allows you to hear exactly how the piece as a whole should sound, before the independent Piano-only track lets you take the place of the Oboe in your very own performance. This is a unique opportunity for oboists to learn from an authoritative.

White Light was commissioned by Fumiko Teramoto, oboist with the Musashino Grand Concert Band from Tokyo, Japan. The request was for a moderately slow piece, of intermediate difficulty, which included White in the title, as this is her lucky colour. Composer Philip Sparke decided to use this suggestion to write a piece that was bright and light in terms of harmony and colour, with much use of simple major and minor chords and an emphasis on pure and transparent timbres. He was also keen to capture the essence and history of the oboe as a solo instrument - the piece is pastoral in character and often almost baroque in style. Also available for oboe and concert band (AMP317-010/140).

Joseph Robinson of The Double Reed says of Elaine Douvas in this recording: Eschewing overt expression in favor of implication and subtlety, she offers performances that are stylish and full of passion and conviction to be sure, but which, like all great art, withstand and reward the most careful scrutiny. Expert phrasing and articulation by Elaine Douvas in this album demonstrate persuasively that the pieces she has chosen are sufficient to challenge the finest player's imagination, discipline and instrumental skill. This album is a delight for any oboist and again contains a rich collection of music from many periods, from Telemann to Hindemith. Includes sheet music printed on high-quality ivory paper, annotated with performance suggestions and a compact disc with complete versions (with soloist) followed by piano accompaniments to each piece, minus the soloist. Soloist: Elaine Douvas, oboe. Ensemble: Erik Nielsen, piano.

Vivaldi's only oboe sonata requires an interpretation, since the thoroughbass part is not figured. Thanks to Martin Nitz's stylistically authentic realization and careful editorial work, this rather neglected piece is sure to find many new friends.

It is generally quite easy to adapt sonatas for Baroque oboe (and continuo) to the soprano recorder since both instruments have an identical range. Yet considering the great popularity of the previously published works, it is strange that Antonio Vivaldi's only sonata for this instrument has received little attention to date. This edition is based on a manuscript preserved in the Sachsische Landesbibliothek Dresden under the class. no. Mus. 2389-S-1. The preparation of the edition entailed the adjustment of the accidentals to present-day practice, and the realization of the (unfigured) thoroughbass part. No slurs were added to those already contained in the manuscript so as to allow the performer to find his own solutions. Otherwise the virtually error-free manuscript was reproduced without change. We wish to thank the directors of the Sachsische Landesbibliothek Dresden for their authorization to publish the work. The ninth piece, an Adagio in E major, is one of the gems in the volume, building on the tradition of the Baroque pastorale. This soaring melody has been arranged by the composer to a duet: above the piano accompaniment, it can be performed by a violin or a flute (either by an oboe or other melodic instrument).

An oboe concerto from the romantic era? Embarassingly, due to the small amount of solo literature for the instrument from this period, this question often asked of oboists, must be answerded with a reference to the few small concert pieces and sets of variations available. The A minor Concerto by Hugo Schuncke, who was a musician at the Court of Stuttgart, fills a need. The work consists of three movements: a virtuoso Allegro, a pastorale Andante and a rhythmic, exciting Bolero in rondo form. Score available separately - see item CA.4057600.
