Premiere Etude De Concert in B minor was the first of three works for solo Piano, published in 1920 as the composer’s Opus 65. The suite was dedicated to the Ukrainian pianist Alexander Brailowsky, who is bestremembered for his virtuosic interpretation of Chopin’s complete works.
Joseph Jongen (1873-1953) was a Belgian organist and composer. A precocious talent, he was admitted to the Liege Conservatory at the age of 7,studying Fugue, Piano, Composition and Organ. He began writing music at the age of 13 and eventually composed over 200 works, though some were later destroyed. His Symphonie Concertante is considered by many to beamongthe greatest works ever written for Organ and Orchestra.

Belgian organist, composer and teacher, Joseph Jongen (1873-1953) was admitted to the Liège Conservatoire at the mere age of seven years old. Published in 1925, Allegro Appassionato is an extraordinary addition to the viola repertoire. Jongen won many awards during his sixteen years of musical education, including the Belgain Prix de Rome in 1897. He began composing at age 13 and therefore, has an exhaustive catalogue of works to his name. Allegro Appassionato is a virtuosic work for the Viola, addressing aspects such as harmonics, exploited tonality, chromaticism, double stops, flourishing semiquavers, complex rhythms, articulation and a significant amount if performance directions and dynamics, among other elements. For all advanced violists, Jongen's Allegro Appassionato is essential to a varied repertoire.
