The course begins with the theme of 'Phrasing and Articulation'. This is followed by a series of pieces arranged systematically to give practice of playing in different keys (3 sharps to 3 flats) and so to improve reading skills and increase familiarity with the keyboard. Together with major and minor scales the corresponding cadences are introduced which can be varied in many different playing styles. Parallel to this there is granded practice material for playing scales and to develop 'Velocity and Even Playing'. In this way students gradually reach a technical standart that allows 'artistic' work on expression and musical interpretation to begin. This development of musicianship starts with the use of pedal and an introduction to cantabile which will be taken further in Volume 3.Again playing by ear inventing accompaniements experimenting with timbres and chords and composing little pieces should constantly supplement lessons. In the appendix of Volume 2 the author offers some idea though he has consciously left much to the individual approach of the teacher.

Urtext (1932-1939). Bartók's Mikrokosmos has been one of the milestones in pedagogical piano repertoire for 80 years - and yet it is also far more than a "classical" piano primer. These 153 piano pieces, organized in ascending order of difficulty, engage not only with technical aspects of piano playing but also with the fundamentals of composition - from "Imitation and Inversion," "Ostinato," and "Free Variations," concerning compositional technique, to mood pieces and pieces with programmatic ideas such as "Notturno," "Boating," "From the Diary of a Fly," or the famous "Six Dances in Bulgarian Rhythm." Mikrokosmos first appeared in 1940 in six volumes. Based on volume 40 of the Bartók Complete Edition published in 2020(Z. 15040), the present Urtext edition offers the series gathered in three volumes. This edition includes Bartók's preface, exercises, and notes written for the first edition. Furthermore, it also features a preface and comments by the editor, which not only discuss the genesis and the compositional sources but also provide performers, teachers and pupils alike, with authentic and detailed information about Bartók's notation and the specific performing problems of Mikrokosmos.

À cette occasion, nous lui rendrons hommage en présentant ses oeuvres pour piano en trois volumes brochés ou reliés en toile.

La musique de piano étant notre point fort, nous tenions à attribuer à l?oeuvre de celui qui fut à l?origine du renouvellement de la musique de piano une place de choix dans notre catalogue.

Depuis le début des années 1980, nous avons édité l?une après l?autre et à intervalles réguliers toutes les oeuvres importantes que Debussy écrivit pour le piano. Notre éditeur, Ernst-Günter Heinemann, collabora étroitement avec le musicologue français renommé François Lesure, spécialiste de Debussy, et présenta grâce à nos éditions Urtext de qualité toutes les facettes de la musique de Debussy.

Dans les trois recueils, on trouvera, classées chronologiquement d?après leur date de parution et débutant par la «Danse bohémienne» composée vers 1880, toutes les oeuvres de notre catalogue éditées séparément.

En guise de «bis», on a glissé dans le premier volume le prélude à la cantate «La Damoiselle élue». Chacun des trois volumes procure des grands moments pianistiques.

Mais ils invitent également à découvrir Debussy, le classique-moderne, sous un autre angle: le compositeur de petites pièces moins connues.
