Carlos Franzetti was born in 1948 in Buenos Aires Argentina. He worked along with Paquito D'Rivera Joe Farrell and among other talented artists composing the soundtracks for Beat Street Misunderstood and the Mambo Kings and arranging for the Boston Pops Orchestra Carnegie Hall Jazz Band and the American Symphony Orchestra. Sankt Stefans-Choral. As a source of inspiration, the composer used the dazzling, impressive and beautiful world-famous St. Stephen?s Cathedral?the Stephansdom?in Vienna. Often seen as a national symbol of Austria, it stands in the heart of Vienna and has 14 bells, each with its own name. At the beginning of the work, you can hear the ringing of the bells. The main melody softly emerges from this soundscape and returns repeatedly in various instrumentations and different harmonisations. Following a fortissimo section, the hymnal melody ebbs and fades away, the same way it appeared at the beginning. St. Stephen?s Chorale is a solemn moment of contemplation in your concert.

The Peacemakers sets words of peace from iconic world-changing figures such as Gandhi Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King along with other inspirational quotations of Mother Teresa Albert Schweitzer Anne Frank and the Dalai Lama. Also included are religious texts from the Bible the Qur?an St Francis of Assisi and Bahá?u?lláh and the poetry of Shelley Malory Terry Waite and Carol Barratt. One line from the Persian mystic poet Rumi sums up the ethos of the work: ?All religions all singing one song: Peace be with you?. for Symphonic Band-Rio Grande (2015) for symphonic band is Grammy award winning composer Michael Daughertys follow-up to his iconic Niagara Falls (1997). The title refers to the legendary 1 250-mile river that flows from the mountains of southern Colorado to the Gulfof Mexico near Brownsville Texas. In Rio Grande the composer has created a powerful musical landscape that is magical and majestic. The percussion section comprised of timpani bongos woodblocks tom toms and bass drums creates a rhythmicundercurrent to an angular motif that is first heard in the woodwinds emerging high above the musical precipice. This jagged motif is passed on to individual instruments such as the tuba and eventually in various colorful guises to the entiresymphonic band. Reminding us of the long cultural history associated with the great river we also hear ghostly Mexican mariachi music echoing faraway through the canyons. In the coda all the musical material is combined to create a grandiose endingto our journey down the timeless Rio Grande. A resounding success at the world premiere given by the North Texas Wind Symphony (Eugene Migliaro Corporon conductor) Rio Grande should prove to be one of Daughertys most popular and performed bandworks for years to come.

The King Cobra uncoils from a woven basket and flares out its iconic hood. It appears to sway back and forth hypnotically as the snake charmer plays his flute. This type of 'Cobra Dance' has captivated audiences around the world for thousands of years. Timpani solos, a variety of percussion, syncopated rhythms and colorful harmonies are woven together to create an exotic tapestry of sound that your young musicians will look forward to playing at both rehearsal and performance. Naturals for 'safety'. Programme Note This piece marks the conclusion of what could now be called 'The Nightshade Trilogy' three pieces which explore the contrasting worlds of Light and Darkness. As opposed to the earlier chamber work Nightshade which dealt with extremes of high and low pitches and the chamber orchestra composition Second Nightshade a two-fold piece contrasting darkness/anxiety and light/calm Final Nightshade for full symphony orchestra takes us on a journey in which the forces of dark and light struggle - and co-exist - in a predominantly polyphonic web with brooding undertones. The melodic point-of-departure is not surprisingly to be found in either of the two preceding pieces of the Trilogy but in an older piece Corpus Cum Figuris from 1985.
