Missa Katharina is a mass - comprising of the standard movementsKyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei. In additionto this the composer has added additional instrumental movements- Prelude, Offertory, Postludium and the massmovements Alleluiaand Amen. Missa Katharina was primarily written for choir, sopranosolo and concert band but can also be performed with a choir,accompanied by an organ or piano only. If there is no good solosoprano voice available, the sopranos canalso sing the sopranopart tutti, standing before the choir. A truly flexible work that willbe equally at home performed in the church or in the concert hall.Choral parts available separately.

<Missa Katharina is een mis die bestaat uit de gebruikelijke delen Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus en Agnus dei. Er zijn instrumentale delen toegevoegd: een Preludium, Offertorium en Postludium,evenals eenAlleluia en een Amen. Het Preludium is bedoeld voor de aanvang van de mis, het Offertorium komt tussen de preek en de communieviering en het Postludium komt aan het eind vande mis. Het Alleluia wordt gezongenna het Gloria, het Amen volgt het Agnus dei.Er zijn verschillende uitvoeringsmogelijkheden:- een integrale versie,- een versie met alleen de gebruikelijke delen,- eenversie zonder koor, met alleen drie instrumentale delen,- eenuitvoering van elk afzonderlijk deel.Missa Katharina is in eerste instantie geschreven voor koor, sopraansolo en harmonieorkest. De mis kan ook worden uitgevoerdmet koor en orgel of piano. Als er geen geschikte sopraan te vinden is, kunnen desopranen van het koor de solo voor hun rekening nemen.Koorpartijen apart verkrijgbaar.

Missa Katharina ist eine Messe aus den Ordinariumsteilen Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus und Agnus Die. Dazu kommen die Instrumentalteile Präludium, Offertorium und Postludium sowie die MesseteileAlleluja und Amen. Missa Katharina ist in erster Linie geschrieben für Chor, Sopran-Solo und symphonisches Blasorchester. Verschiedene Aufführungsmöglichkeiten (z.B. rein instrumental oder in unterschiedlich langen Versionen) eröffnenzahlreiche Verwendungsmöglichkeiten für dieses eindrucksvolle Werk, mit dem der Komponist 2007 einen internationalen Kompositionswettbewerb gewann.Chorstimmen separat erhältlich.

Missa Katharina est une œuvre de commande pour le Concours International de Composition « Missa Katharina », organisé par la Fondation allemande Dr. Dazert (Kempten/Allgäu) en collaboration avec la Confédération Internationale desSociétés Musicales (CISM), l’Euregio Via Salina et le quotidien bavarois Allgäuer Zeitung. Les membres du jury, Johann Mösenbichler (Autriche), Siegfried Bauer (Allemagne), le Père Stefan Kling (Allemagne), Isabelle Ruf-Weber (Suisse) et ReinaldScheule (Allemagne), eurent pour t che de choisir l’œuvre lauréate du concours parmi les 32 œuvres qui leur furent soumises. Après délibération, le prix du Concours fut attribué Jacob de Haan. L’œuvre fut donnée en création mondialedans la célèbre basilique d’Ottobeuren (Allgäu) en Allemagne par l’Orchestre Vent Euregio (Euregio-Blasorchester) et un Chœur formé pour cette occasion, placés sous la direction de Johann Mösenbichler.Prénom féminin d’origine grecque,Catherine (Katharina) est le symbole de la pureté. Parmi les femmes remarquables qui ont porté ce prénom, on citera Catherine de Sienne (fille d’un Ordre, mystique et docteur de l’Église), Catherine d’Alexandrie (martyre, sainte auxiliatrice),Catherine Labouré (religieuse, mystique), Anne Catherine Emmerick (religieuse, mystique), Catherine de Bologne (abbesse) et Catherine de Suède (abbesse).Missa Katharina est une messe composée des cinq mouvements Kyrie, Gloria, Credo,Sanctus, Benedictus et Agnus Dei. Ces mouvements sont complétés par trois mouvements instrumentaux (Prélude, Offertoire, Postlude) et deux mouvements de messe, l’Alléluia et l’Amen. Le Prélude marque l’ouverturedu culte, l’Offertoire célèbre la communion et le Postlude clôt le culte. The Gospel Mass—a mass for mixed choir, combo and concert band—is based on the gospel music that has spread throughout the world since its creation in America. After Missa Brevis and Missa Katharina this is the third mass fromthe pen of Jacob de Haan.
The movements of the mass ordinary as we know it have now been composed in various pop styles that have their origin in the gospel music. We hear, then, not only the classic American gospel style (including thecharacteristic clapping and swing rhythms), but also freer gospel styles that have developed over the course of time. The Credo, for example, is a ballad with rock and funk influences. The Agnus Dei is heard as a slow blues—a genreclosely linked to gospel music. The unique feature of this work, of course, is in the combination of all these pop and gospel elements with the Latin liturgy of the Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei, which results in abeautiful, cohesive whole. As far as we know, The Gospel Mass is the only true gospel mass.

The Gospel Mass – een mis voor gemengd koor, combo en blaasorkest – is gebaseerd op de gospelmuziek zoals die zich sinds haar ontstaan in Amerika overal in de wereld heeft verspreid en ontwikkeld. Het werk is na Missa Brevisen Missa Katharina de derde mis van componist Jacob de Haan.
De ordinariumdelenzoals we die kennen van een mis, zijn hier gecomponeerd in diverse popstijlen die hun oorsprong vinden in de gospelmuziek. Zo horen we niet alleen deklassiekeAmerikaanse gospelstijl (inclusief hand-clapping en swing), maar ook de vrijere gospelstijlen die zich in de loop der tijd hebben ontwikkeld. Het Credo is bijvoorbeeld gecomponeerd als een ballad, terwijl in andere delen rock- en funkinvloeden zijnverwerkt. Het Agnus Dei klinkt in een slow blues, een genre dat nauw verbonden is met de gospelmuziek. De unieke factor is de combinatie van al deze pop- en gospelelementen met de Latijnse misteksten van het Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictusen Agnus Dei – daarmee ontstaat een fraai, samenhangend geheel. Voor zover bekend is The Gospel Mass de enige echte gospelmis.

The Gospel Mass eine Messe für gemischten Chor, Combo und Blasorchester basiert auf der Gospelmusik, wie sie sich seit ihrer Entstehung in Amerika überall auf der Welt verbreitet hat. Das Werk ist nach Missa Brevis und MissaKatharina die dritte Messe aus der Feder von Jacob de Haan.
Die Ordinariumsteile, wie man sie aus einer Messe kennt, sind hier in diversen Popstilen komponiert, die ihren Ursprung in der Gospelmusik haben. So hören wir nicht nur den klassischen amerikanischen Gospelstil (inklusive Händeklatschen und Swing),sondern auch freiere Gospelstile, die sich im Laufe der Zeit entwickelt haben. Das Credo ist beispielsweise eine Ballade, in der Rock- und Funk-Einflüsse verarbeitet wurden. Das Agnus Dei erklingt als langsamer Blues ein Genre, daseng mit der Gospelmusik verknüpft ist. Der einzigartige Faktor dieses Werkes besteht natürlich in der Kombination all dieser Pop- und Gospelelemente mit den lateinischen Messetexten der Ordinariumsteile Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictusund Agnus Dei, die ein schönes, zusammenhängendes Ganzes ergibt. Soweit bekannt, ist The Gospel Mass die einzige echte Gospelmesse.

This Latin mass for choir and wind band was composed in honour of Saint Cecilia’s feast day, Saint Cecilia being the patroness of musicians. For this reason, many ensembles have annual concerts dedicated to Saint Cecila, which was the inspiration forthis piece. It is a festive, optimistic, but also comforting work, which in style perfectly suits the character of Saint Cecilia’s Feast Day. After Missa Brevis, Missa Katharina and The Gospel Mass, Missa Santa Cecilia isthe fourth published mass by the Dutch composer Jacob de Haan.

Deze Latijnse mis voor koor en harmonieorkest is gecomponeerd ter ere van de feestdag van Sint-Cecilia. Deze heilige is de patrones van de musici. Talrijke muziekverenigingen en koren organiseren elk jaar concerten ter ere van Sint-Cecilia, eengegeven dat Jacob de Haan inspireerde dit werk te schrijven. Het is een feestelijk, optimistisch, maar ook troostend werk, dat qua stijl uitstekend past bij het karakter van het Sint-Ceciliafeest. Na Missa Brevis, Missa Katharina enThe Gospel Mass is Missa Santa Cecilia de vierde uitgegeven mis van Jacob de Haan.

Diese lateinische Messe für Chor und Blasorchester wurde zu Ehren des Gedenktages der heiligen Cäcilia, der Patronin der Musiker, komponiert. Aus diesem Grund widmen zahlreiche Ensembles der heiligen Cäcilia jedes Jahr Konzerte, was als Inspirationfür dieses Stück gedient hat. Es handelt sich um ein festliches, optimistisches, aber auch beruhigendes Werk, das stilistisch perfekt zum Gedenktag der heiligen Cäcilia passt. Nach der Missa Brevis, der Missa Katharina und The GospelMass ist die Missa Santa Cecilia die vierte Messe des holländischen Komponisten Jacob de Haan, die nun veröffentlicht wird.

Cette messe latine pour chorale et orchestre d’harmonie fut composée en l’honneur du jour de fête de la Sainte Cécile, la patronne des musiciens. Pour cette raison, beaucoup d’ensembles ont des concerts annuels dédiés la Sainte Cécile, ce qui futla source d’inspiration pour ce morceau.
