Michael Finnissy: Organ Symphony No. 1: Organ: Instrumental Work

Finnissy's Organ Symphony No. 2 is based in the sound world of late nineteenth-century France. Although there is advice on the intended style the approach to registration is flexible allowing a range of interpretation and enjoyment for performer and listener alike.

This work for solo organ is based on the piece submitted by Finnissy for his Royal College of Music audition which was scored for solo voices organ and orchestra after Mahler's model. The original work was microtonal; although the microtones have been removed some of the eccentric pitch-spelling has been kept as has the original structure.
