Jubilate Deo was commissioned by the Friends of Sheffield Cathedral for Neil Taylor and the Cathedral Choirs to celebrate the opening of the Cathedral's Community Resources Centre on 6th March 2007. The semi-chorus should be formed by an ensemble of singers positioned some distance from the main choir. / SATB Et Orgue

This major work is a seven-movement setting of Psalm 100 predominantly in Latin. Inserted within the work are interjections of the text 'Shout to the Lord all ye lands!' in eight different languages. The work may be performed entirely by an SATB choir or some or all of the treble choir options in the treble part may be used along with the SATB choir. Part-dominant rehearsal videos and pronunciation guides for the languages are available for free on the composer's website. There are three different orchestrations of the work available ranging from a large orchestration to a nine-instrument chamber version. This piece was commissioned by the IndianapolisChildren's Chorus to honor its distinguished conductor of 30 years Henry Leck. William Boyce’s Te Deum And Jubilate In C was written for four Voices (SATB) with Bass continuo (Piano) accompaniment and first published in 1790. The lyrics of the two sacred pieces are both in English translation an early Christian hymn of praise (Te Deum) and Psalm 100 (Jubilate). As morning canticles they are usually sung at Morning Prayer in the Anglican tradition. Duration if performed together is approximately 6:15 minutes.William Boyce is widely regarded as one of the most important English-born composers of the 18th century however he remains little-performed today. The beauty of his sacredcompositions is proof of his lifelong involvement with various aspects of Church music (as a choirboy organist and composer) since the age of 9.

Nigel Hess's Jubilate Deo for SATB and organ was originally written for a production of Shakespeare’s Henry VIII at the Chichester Festival Theatre and accompanied the Christening and Coronation scenes in the play. It was originally recorded in Chichester Cathedral with its wonderful acoustic ideal for a grand Tudor ceremony. Even with more modest forces it is helpful to imagine this majestic sound and atmosphere. Edited with additional material from the Salzburg version“In Italy nowadays this term (motet) is applied to a Latin sacred solo cantata consisting of two arias and two recitatives concluding with an Hallelujah and sung during the Mass following the Credo generally by one of the best singers.” One composition matching this description is the solo motet Exsultate jubilate K. 165/158a which Mozart wrote in Milan early in 1773 following the highly successful performance of his opera Lucio Silla.In 1978 when the music manuscripts in Bavaria were being sorted and cataloged in a project sponsored by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft a set ofmanuscript parts for a previously unknown second version was discovered in the town parish church of St. Jakob in Wasserburg am Inn. The music and text of the concluding Alleluja movement were written out by the Salzburg court bassoonist and copyist Joseph Richard Estlinger (c. 1720–1791) who frequently worked for Mozart and his father.The vocal text of this Salzburg manuscript departs from that of the Milan version in the first aria and in the recitative. It was entered in a different hand. The Salzburg version of the text is clearly related to the feast of the Holy Trinity. There is much evidence that this version was sung for the first time in the Dreifaltigkeitskirche on 30 May 1779 (i. e. Trinity Sunday) by the Salzburg male soprano Francesco Ceccarelli during a service mentioned by Nannerl Mozart. On that day Leopold and Wolfgang Mozart together with Ceccarelli were invited to the church’s vicarage at midday.
