This arrangement of Rave-Elation was commissioned by Musiktheater im Revier. The first performance was given by Ballett Schindowski, with the Neue Philharmonie Nordrhein- Westfalen conducted by Bernhard Stengel, in Gelsenkirchen, for their all-Hindson ballet Veitstanz, choreographed by Bernd Schindowski, on 24 January 2004. Rave-Elation was written for performance by the combined forces of Camerata Australia and Camerata Scotland. It uses aspects of popular music as a starting point, in particular that of the 'techno' music genre. The piece is almost exclusively hedonistic in content, and this is deliberate. The main inspiration for the work comes from dance and 'rave' parties, especially the party-goers' single-minded indulgence in physical enjoyment.

John La Montaine's Twelve Relationships for Piano Solo consists of twelve short canons: Bold and Plain, Teasing, Plaintive, Bittersweet, Wayward, Saucy, Entreating, Piquant, Brooding, Spirited and Jubilant. It was originally composed in 1965. A canon is the strictest form of composition, in which two or more parts take up in succession exactly the same musical subject. Each of the canons in Twelve Relationships is at a different interval. That is, the second entrance of the subject begins on a different note in each canon, and that note is always different from the first entrance. Twelve different intervals are utilized in the twelve canons. Each of these canons is strict in its succession of intervals from the first note to the last. The first canon is at the octave and therefore in one and the same key. All of the others at different intervals, since they are strict, are simultaneously in two different keys. There is no other known set of canons so composed. The title Twelve Relationships may be understood in two senses. One refers to the form, the intervallic relationships mentioned above. The other refers to the content, that is, to the psychological relationships that are implied by the titles of the individual canons and which form the musical substance of the pieces. Jocelyn Mackey (Pan Pipes, music critic): Twelve Relationships contains twelve two-part canons with titles like, Plaintive, Sprightly, Saucy, Brooding. The first, Bold and Plain, is composed with imitation at the fifth, while a different interval is used in each of the other eleven. Just as the Well-Tempered Clavier contains preludes in each possible key, each possible interval of imitation is used in this set of canons. Amazing contrapuntal skill..

In this sixth book of the series, the authors builld upon the lower junior stage, and use a similar modular format. Designed to extend skill acquisition in performance, improvising and composing, listening and appraising, and notating music, pupils are challenged by incresingly demanding musical materials. At the same time there is an emphasis on pupils acquiring knowledge and expertise of the deep structures of a range of music, and a greater acknowledgement of musical purpose and context. Attuned to the National Curriculum experiences, particular features of this book are: a consolidation and deepening of vocal and instrumental techniques and performance * an integrated approach to improvising and composing, combing skills in listening and appraising, knowledge and understanding * a module focusing on aural observation, representation, recording and notation of sound * an active, analytical and frequently physical approach to listening and appraising * a focus on music in its social and historical context in relation to dance.

Steven Warner and Chrysogonus Waddell first collaborated when the Notre Dame Folk Choir traveled to the Cistercian Abbey in Kentucky for a retreat. Waddell showed Warner some choral pieces he had written, but, living in an all-male community, had never heard in SATB form. Imagine their mutual elation when the Folk Choir sang the pieces as they were intended! Since then, the relationship between Waddell and Warner and the Folk Choir has grown into a cherished friendship. WLP is proud to share more works of Steve Warner and to introduce Waddell‚ compositions to a wider audience.

This Tristan will be something formidable! This last act!I fear the opera will be banned - if the whole work is not parodied through bad performance: only mediocre performances can save me! Thoroughly good ones will surely drive people crazy.Richard WagnerWhile working on the score toTristan und Isolde, Richard Wagner expressed his excitement and elation about his new musical drama. Indeed, the radical originality of the work proved to be both unique and forward-looking: Over 150 years ago it signified thedawnof the modern era and to this day it has not lost any of its fascination. Throughout his life, Richard Wagner was proud of his even handwriting. He constantly strove to produce manuscripts of a high calligraphic standard. The Tristan manuscript is also clearly written. More so than in his other scores however, traces of his working process are evident. It is precisely this aspect of the autograph that makes it fascinating. Reading it, one is witness to Wagner's highlyconcentrated, powerful and relentless writing. This manuscript is in every possible way unparalleled reflecting individuality and uniqueness. In time for the 200th anniversary of Wagner's birth in 2013, this great work is published as a BARENREITER FACSIMILE in cooperation with the National Archive of the Richard-Wagner-Stiftung Bayreuth. In addition to the complete score, the edition includes the autograph concert ending of the Vorspiel as well as three pages that Wagner rejected while composing and later used for sketches.Ulrich Konrad, the renowned musicologist describes the genesis and performance history of the work in his comprehensive commentary. He also details the physical appearance and condition of the autograph as well as giving an insight into the musical language of Wagner.German Music Edition PrizeBest Edition2013

Aloft evokes the relentless pursuit of powered flight by the Wright Brothers at Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, as well as the broader sense of persistence and elation during any creative act. This was also an opportunity for me to bring the euphoric experience of making music together to musicians who are at the beginning of their journey, and I hope to inspire them to keep music in their lives regardless of where their lives go. Dur: ca. 3:30.

My home country, Japan, inaugurates the season of the blooming cherrytree with ceremonies of welcome and commencement. I wanted tocompose a piece that captures the wondrous feeling of these ceremonies; apiece that could project sentiments of elation or of hopes for a brighteningfuture. The beginning of the piece through m. 28 should be played with muchexpression. Inner melodies are also important. A lighter atmosphere isintroduced in m. 29. The staccato figures in this passage are representative of a lighter mood. The music expands from m. 45 and features longer phrases. In m. 75 the harmonic patterns become more dramatic, only to return to calmness of the opening.I hope the players will feel full of vitality, hope and dreams in thismusic. And I would be very happy if I could see their smiles at the end.

CONTENTS 1. Blackbird (Anne Stevenson) (b - g) 2. The moon is distant (Emily Dickinson) (b - g sharp) 3. Bird in hand (Anne Stevenson) (e flat - g flat) 4. On not being able to look at the moon (Anne Stevenson) (b - g) For medium voice and piano or ensemble of flute, harp and string quartet, Moon and Birds is a substantial cycle of songs to words by Anne Stevenson and Emily Dickinson. Its sequence of four settings, 'Blackbird', 'The moon is distant' (Dickinson), 'Bird in hand' and 'On not being able to look at the moon' unfolds a symmetrical structure of contrasting yet interlocking moods in which the reflective second and fourth numbers, lunar visions of mystic tranquillity flawed by doubt and pain, temper with human frailty the bright epiphanies of the first and third songs. There is a fascinating challenge here for the performer to embrace both elation and gravitas in a single reading, Samuel's vigorous musical invention binding the developing web of feeling with its own formal strengths and subtly illustrative moments. In the version for string quartet, flute and harp, first performed by Contemporary Connections on 4 November 2011 at St James's Church Piccadilly, the flute takes a prominent role throughout. Violins, viola and cello at times elaborate on the simpler textures of the keyboard version, though the two scores remain entirely compatible. The bluesy harmonies of the concluding number, whether weighted by sonorous string quartet or profiled in edgier piano chords, bring the cycle to a sombre conclusion with a proper sense of an emotional world traversed.

The title of this solo piece, written for the former Rondino festival of Hegymagas and for the tireless performer of contemporary clarinet music, Csaba Klenyán, evokes the atmosphere of the Balaton highlands. The dramaturgy, moving from long, sustained notes to virtuosic runs, evokes the specific acoustics of the small church of Hegymagas. János Malina rightly compared this composition to the elation of Shakespeare's monologues.

This contemporary work from Daniel Brewbaker is a jubilant shout of joy at the miracle of being alive. Based on poems by St. Thomas Aquinas and Rabia, their ideas resonate with each other across the centuries, and extend to our own. The music alternates between exhilarating elation and quiet amazement, concluding with an exuberant affirmation of the self as the central expression of the divine choir of life. From his cantata Living the Divine. Duration: 2:30.
