One of the most beautiful of all Bach's melodies, is this one taken from the alto aria of the 127th Cantata, and was accompanied by string quartet and oboe. As this accompaniment mainly consists of chords held by the strings, this adaptation was fraught with exceptional difficulties and it was only after three months' experiment that the adapter chose this form. Die seele ruht in Jesu handen.

This overture is the opening of the 146th Church Cantata. It is scored for full string orchestra with organ obbligato and is the original form of the first movement of the later and better known Piano Concerto in D minor. In its early form this work lends itself more readily to a modern piano adaptation than in the later Concerto form. Wir mussen durch viel trubsal in das reich Gottes eingehen.

This sinfonia is the opening of the 12th church cantata. It was scored for oboe solo with string quartet accompaniment. The continuity of sounds in the chords formed by the strings has been in this adaptation obtained by means of arpeggios formed entirely out of the notes contained in the chords. Sinfonia-weinen, klagen, sorgen, zagen.

The melody, 'Wachet Auf' ('Sleepers, Wake') was not composed by Bach, but was used by him in three of the seven movements of his Cantata No. 141. This arrangement features adaptations of the third and last movements of the Cantata. An introduction has been added, as well as a finale for the Gloria, for a more cohesive presentation. Contrasting movements offer fantastic opportunities to focus on contrapuntal and chorale playing. (Grade 3---Medium) This title is available in MakeMusic Cloud.

The Six Three-Part Preludes and Fugues are regarded as a unique testimony to Mozart's profound interest in the works of Bach.
ISBN 9790004337998. 9 x 12 inches.
I am presently collecting the fugues of Bach - not only of sebastian, but also of Emanuel and friedeman, wrote Mozart to his father in April 1782. This could be a hint that the Six Three-Part Preludes and Fugues were derived from this collection: Mozart wrote string-trio arrangements of two preludes and five fugues by Johann Sebastian Bach, and of one fugue by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach. This apparently plunged him into such a creative mood that he simply wrote the missing preludes himself. It is to Johann Nepomuk David that we owe the first edition of this work, which introduced this unique document to a broad public for the first time. The present edition has retained David's basic editorial decision to adapt the divergent passages of Mozart's arrangement to Bach's original music text.Contents:No. 1 - Adagio by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Fuga Mozart's arrangement of Johann Sebastian Bach, Das Wohltemperirte Clavier I, Fuga 8 in D# minor BWV 853No. 2 - Adagio by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Fuga Mozart's arrangement of Johann Sebastian Bach, Das Wohltemperirte Clavier II, Fuga 14 in F# minor BWV 883No. 3 - Adagio by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Fuga Mozart's arrangement of Johann Sebastian Bach, Das Wohltemperirte Clavier II, Fuga 13 in F# major BWV 882.
