Albeniz's?Asturias?has become one of the most important works of the classical Guitar repertoire however it was originally written for for the solo Piano.Despite its misleading title which refers to the northern Spanish region of Asturias and was given to it posthumously by the German publisher Hofmeister this virtuoso piece is pure Andalusian flamenco. The main theme mimics the Guitar technique of alternating the thumb and fingers of the right hand while the ???marcato???/'staccato??? markings suggest the footwork of a flamenco dancer.Another flamenco style the malague?a is detectable inthe middle section.After a short return to the theme the piece concludes in a slow ???hymn-like???passage.Noted for the delicate intricate melody of its middle section and abrupt dynamic changes this challenging piece is a favourite welcome by musicians and audiences alike!

Containing five of Albniz' most beautiful works, this collection includes both concert solo guitar and lead sheet arrangements of each piece written in standard notation and tablature. The Spanish composer and pianist Isaac Albeniz (1860-1909) was one of the leading members of the Nationalist school that dominated Spanish music at the turn of the last century. Cordoba was the fourth in a collection of 5 songs for the Piano inspired by different places in Spain published in 1898 as Cantos de España (Op. 232). The city of Cordoba is said to be Albeniz’ favourite city and is home to the famous Great Mosque. The music reflects the rich history of the city both Christian and Moorish.Cordoba has been transcribed for Guitar by Miguel Angel. It has become one of the staples of the modernGuitar repertoire.

from Suite Espanola Op.47 (Romero)-Although the version for guitar (an arrangement by Andres Segovia) is by far the most famous this piece was originally a piano movement used by Albeniz in his 'Cantos de España'. After his death a music publisher also added it to the 'Suite Española' which has been the source of confusion ever since!
