Two solos in jazz idiom for pedal or non-pedal harp-Two solos in the jazz idiom for Pedal or Non-Pedal Harp by Stewart Green. Stewart Green began writing music for the Piano at an early age. Taking up the Viola and Oboe in his teens he later went to the University College of North Wales (Bangor) where he studied composition with among others William Matthias and Reginald Smith Brindle. Gaining a B. Mus. (hons) degree in 1960 he returned to his old school in Richester to teach class and instrumental music. Four years later he enlisted as oboist to the Band of HM Coldstream Guards which opened many doors including performances of his compositions and arrangements in many National venues on discand broadcast by the BBC on Radios 2 & 3. His years at Bangor had enabled him to fulfil a childhood dream of learning the Harp which he was later able to develop when he left the army and moved with his wife Sue and young family to Lowestoft as a peripatetic woodwind tutor for Suffolk County Music Service. His Flights Of Fancy and Blistering Along! appear on ABRSM and Trinity College Harp examination syllabuses while the Spartan Press publication Saxofun is on Suffolk's own exam syllabus. Since 1999 Stewart has been senior Woodwind Tutor for Suffolk and since 2002 Harp tutor as well! Stewart's recent publication She'll Be Comin' Round The Mountain was written for the North Suffolk String Orchestra as was Haunted House. Spookily this received its first performance at Lowestoft accompanied by a July Thunderstorm!

The sturdy melody of a favorite Sacred Harp tune is first presented in unison by the choir decorated by a flute obbligato. Verse 3 is sung by a soloist while in verse 4 the choir returns with the melody and a descant for ajubilant finish. Ideal for Christmas concerts or festival performances by children's choirs and middle school.

POD-This work by Patrick Hawes was inspired by the legend of The Angel of Mons. This is the vocal score for SSA choir with Piano accompaniment. The legend claims that an angel appeared before members of the British Army at the Battle of Mons in World War 1 supposedly protecting them from the enemy. This work is dedicated to the memory of all the British soldiers who witnessed the apparition of the angel. The Angel Of Mons was premiered in its SATB choir version on 23 August 2014 in St Michael & All Angels Church Edenham Lincolnshire and conducted by the composer Patrick Hawes on the exactcentenary of the apparition of the angel. 'Scored for soprano solo SSA choir harp and strings this reworking by the composer of the original SATB version musically accessible and also offering teaching opportunities about WWI is particualrly suitable for good school choirs. The vocal lines are logical and the word-setting is comfortable'. Organists' Review December 2017

George Butterworth was born in London on July 12th 1885 to a well-to-do family. Eton School was followed by university at Trinity College Oxford where he met Vaughan Williams and Cecil Sharp. He taught for a while at Radley studied for a short time at the Royal College of Music then concentrated more or less full time on collecting folk songs sometimes with Vaughan Williams. When the First World War started in 1914 he joined the Durham Light Infantry as a Lieutenant. In the trenches he was mentioned in dispatches for outstanding courage and won the Military Cross. He led a successful raid on August 15th 1916 in the Battle of the Somme but during the raidButterworth was killed by a sniper's bullet.Much of his music is influenced by folk-song. The idyll 'Banks of Green Willow' is one of his best works and perfectly captures the nature of the English countryside. Commissioned by Cardiff University School of Music and dedicated to their resident string quartet this work is in one unbroken span that is formed from four linked movements. The work features sharply contrasting musical characters creating Powers' typically oppositional and argumentative style.
