Homeward Voyage (De retour à la maison) est une oeuvre de commande écrite à l?automne 2012 à la demande de l?orchestre d?harmonie du Collège de Shimofukuda (Japon). Située non loin de Tokyo la résidence actuelle du compositeur est à environ mille kilomètres de son lieu de naissance où il retourne plusieurs fois par an. Pendant le voyage il est toujours joyeux à l?idée de revoir sa famille et ses amis. Homeward Voyage exprime à merveille ce sentiment chaleureux.

Debbie Campbell's wonderful environmental musical with 12 memorable songs tells the tale of Bottlenose the dolphin who is taken into captivity. The sea creatures including the ‘Godfather’ Great White Shark and his godson Hammerhead join together with some caring humans and succeed in getting Bottlenose released back into the sea. This is the full score of Aheym For Orchestra composed by Bryce Dessner best known as the guitarist of The National but also an acclaimed composer in his own right.   If sodesired this work can be performed with Strings alone: the Wind and Percussion instruments are optional. Composed in 2009 for the Kronos Quartet for their performance in Brooklyn's Prospect Park for the CelebrateBrooklyn! festival Aheym (meaning 'homeward' in Yiddish) was directly inspired by his parents' migration to Brooklyn. The score in this edition was first performed by the London Sinfonietta at the Southbank Centre in London onthe 9th of October 2012. The work lasts around 8 minutes and is filled with dynamic tempo changes a mix of staccato and smooth playing and all-round excitement. It's a fantastic piece to play and the genius composition will keepaudiences on their toes.

Tout commence par une description de l?aurore en haute mer (Sunrise at Sea) ; l?océan s?éveille doucement (The Ocean Awakes). La musique est aérienne ; la courbe mélodique des bois s?élève au-dessus des couleurs brillantes des cuivres. L?œuvre croît en intensité et culmine avec le lever du soleil. Dans la lumière du jour l?horizon lointain s?étale comme un tapis infini. La croisière s?annonce sous les meilleurs hospices. La mer est calme mais le calme est trompeur. Le bateau est bercé puis sérieusement chahuté par les vagues.Une fois la sérénité retrouvée le yacht poursuit son itinéraire. Le deuxième mouvement amorce le chemin du retour (Homeward Bound). Les conditions de navigation sont idéales. Le bateau fend délicatement les vagues chatoyantes. Mais la météo est changeante ; un vent frais souffle dans les voiles. Le yacht est à la merci du vent et des vagues. Une brève accalmie déchire le ciel mais le vent se relève et se fait de plus en plus fort. Les embruns glacent notre visage (Spindrift). Le bateau menace de chavirer. Nous réussissons à réorienter les voiles et profitons du grand vent pour effectuer un retour particulièrement grisant !
