Duets For Two Acoustic Guitars-The Christmas season has always been special to me. It is a season that has crystallized the hopes aspirations and faith of millions of people through the centuries. The amount of music written for Christmas is monumental.This book contains 14 scores from my Christmas Guitar Portraits recording. I selected various genres dear to me.First there are selections from the early American sacred song tradition. The Babe of Bethlehem Cherry Tree Carol A Star in the East The Shepherd's Star A Virgin Unspotted and I Wonder As I Wander all are from this rich heritage.I also picked a number of carols from theOld English genre. Away In The Manger Green Grow'th the Holly and What Child is This are included.Then there are the Christmas favourites. In the Bleak Mid-winter and a medley ofBaloo Lammy; The First Noel and Silent Night make any Christmas complete. Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence is one of my favourite Advent hymns. Gaudete Christus est natus is arousing carol dating back many centuries.Finally I included two originals. Lullay My Liking is an ancient carol text. Many composers over the centuries have written melodies to these lyrics most notably GustavHolst. I could not resist the temptation so the melody here is original. Finally Christmas Prayer is a new composition. I have always wanted to compose and arrange music designed to bring the Plectrum or Flatpick Guitarto the concert stage. These arrangements were written with that in mind.

The Beginner Guitarist has been born out of 20 years of teaching experience. Although specifically designed as a teacher’s aid it can also be used for independent study.Topics like posture tuning andphrasing are not prescribed being left to the judgement of the teacher. With the exception of right and left-hand fingering advice this approach is used throughout the series. The entire series has the goal of being a measuredand progressive tutor. Ideas are usually introduced one at a time to avoid overloading the student.Book Two aims to build on solid right and left-hand techniques and covers further progress in notationrecognition. These two pieces for classic Guitar duo were composed for the Hanser-McClellan Guitar Duo.Two to Tango is a tango rhapsody for two Guitars using mainly tango rhythm combined with that of the milonga anotherArgentinean dance closely related to the tango. The interaction of the two Guitars playing single lines at times and then changing roles between the melody and the rhythm makes it more interesting for bothplayers.Millennium Duet was written as a homage to Chet Atkins. The piece opens with a brief reflection of country and western rhythmic ideas with a melody of a different character. It later moves on to otherpatterns at times combining some Latin American rhythms with a little touch of jazz harmony.This book includes two separate Guitar parts and a combined score written in standard notation only. The companion CD features thepremiere recording of the pieces by the Hanser-McClellan Guitar Duo.

New compositions for solo classic guitar by acclaimed guitarist and composer David Pritchard. All solos are in standard notation. 'In addition to all the music I?ve written over the past twenty years for multiple acousticguitars I have on occasion felt inspired to write a smaller number of pieces for just one guitar. Exploring a meditative feel was my motivation for writing ?A Pale View ' 'A Silent Dream ' and 'Restoration.' 'A Silent Dream'can be played either as a solo piece or it can be enhanced by having another guitarist play the second part. 'Arundo' is basically a right hand study piece alternating between two patterns both in different meters while 'OrbWeaver' is primarily a Latin rhythm study with much syncopation alternating simply between two chords. 'Coryza' was written with the acoustic steel string in mind using DADGAD tuning.

The guitar studies of Fernando Sor (1778-1839) have long been valued highly among the indispensable elements of a guitarist's training. A number of prominent virtuosi attribute a large portion of their development to the diligentstudy of these works. Sor's studies address an impressive array of technical and musical topics including proper left-hand fingering training of the right hand interval and chord formations scales arpeggios repeated notes ligados barring natural harmonics control of note duration balance of melody versus accompaniment and the handling of contrapuntal voices. A careful study of these pieces will lay the groundwork for a solid technique andallow the guitarist to build the control necessary for the expression of his or her musical concepts. In preparing this edition David Grimes worked with Sor's original publications but incorporated some alterations that appear inthose studies that Napoleon Coste chose to include in his Methode complete pour la Guitarre par Ferdinand Sor. Furthermore Mr. Grimes has corrected misprints modernized the notation and rectified some inconsistencies. Finally some developments in technique since Sor's day have been incorporated in this edition.
