Here for the first time in a popularly accessible edition are 35 of his finest keyboard works for solo instruments reproduced from the monumental Deutsche Handelgesellschaft edition including eight 'Great Suites' and 'Fugue In A Minor'. For this new edition the pieces have been rearranged and retitled according to the latest scholarly sequences found in The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians. To mark the Handel Year 2009 Bärenreiter is offering a special set on all Handel’s keyboard music. Up till now all works have been published as individual volumes Keyboard Works I-IV (BA 4221-4224) in the 'Halle Handel Edition'.   These volumes encompass Handel’s output over a long period spanning approx. 1705 to 1750. The music of Handel is considered the culmination of the Baroque period of music history and his Water Music (1717) has endured in popularity for nearly 300 years! Performed from a barge traveling on the River Thames King George I is said to have liked the music so much that he ordered it repeated several times. Originally three suites each consisting of multiple movements Johnnie Vinson has skillfully adapted this arrangement for young players using Alla Hornpipe from the Suite in D Major and the Air and Allegro from the Suite in F Major. This authentic arrangement of ten movements from the Water Music suites dates from Handel’s lifetime but is published here for the first time edited by the distinguished Handel scholar Donald Burrows. Its simple light scoring makes it excellently suited to use by schools and small instrumental groups. It can be performed in many different combinations from the original two violins bassoon and continuo to string quartet or wind-based group.
