Piano Trio Op.120 for Piano Violin & CelloGabriel Fauré?s Piano Trio his penultimate work was composed in 1922-23 and published in June 1923. Gabriel Fauré composa cette oeuvre d'une étonnante maturité musicale en 1864, à l'âge de 19 ans. Elle lui valut son premier prix de composition à l'école Niedermeyer, couronnement de 10 années d'études.On trouve une grande sincérité dans cette partition de jeunesse, et qui ne fut précédée que de quelques romances et autres petites pièces pour piano. Les écrits de Fauré nous prouvent que ce sont bien les textes choisis, latins ou français, qui inspiraient en premier lieu sa musique religieuse. Ici, Fauré a parfaitement su capter l'atmosphère du poème de Jean Racine dans une ferveur toute contenue.Gabriel FAURE a réalisé plusieurs versions de son Cantique. La version à 4 voix mixtes, en ré bémol majeur a été transposée en ré majeur, ce qui lui confère une plus grande clarté. Le compositeur a adapté sa pièce pour voix d'enfants et orgue, lorsqu'il était maître de chapelle à l'église de la Madeleine à Paris. Ces fonctions de maître de chapelle étaient lourdes, les cérémonies nombreuses, avec une partie musicale importante. La direction de la Maîtrise d'enfants, les répétitions demandaient une grande dépense d'énergie et beaucoup de patience ! En 1919 FAURE écrit à sa femme : ' Je n'ai jamais été bon pour le travail le matin, sauf pour les besognes de mercenaire, maîtrise, orgue etc? SAM-Klang. Par FAURE GABRIEL. Le Requiem de Gabriel Fauré est sans doute l’œuvre chorale la plus connue et la plus fréquemment interprétée de la fin du XIXe siècle et du début du XXe siècle. En tant que chef de chœur et organiste, Fauré a cherché à façonner une nouvelle musique religieuse, loin du bel canto qui régnait à Paris et du style romantique allemande plébiscité qui dominait une grande partie du paysage musical européen. Son style musical distinctif a constitué la base de l’école impressionniste de Debussy et Ravel (son élève) qui a suivi. Avec des versions pour église (1893) ou salle de concert (1900), le Requiem est une œuvre quasi unique en son genre par sa sobriété, notamment en raison de l’omission d’une Séquence complète du ‘Dies irae’ et de la finale séraphique ‘In Paradisum’. L’œuvre fait sienne la conviction de Fauré selon laquelle la mort doit être considérée “comme une heureuse délivrance, une aspiration vers le bonheur céleste, plutôt qu’une expérience douloureuse”. Cette réduction pour piano présentée ici est fidèle à l’édition de Desmond Ratcliffe publiée par Novello en 1975. Le tempo original de Fauré et les subtilités de la dynamique ont été conservés, bien que certaines des marques de respiration originales du compositeur, aujourd’hui considérées comme superflues dans les partitions contemporaines, aient été supprimées. Les passages pour voix de ténor dans l’Introit et l’Agnus Dei peuvent être chantés par toutes les voix basses lorsque cela est possible. Si non, le passage peut être chanté par un ensemble de voix masculines plus aiguës et d’altos. Note éditoriale : De par sa conception, cette édition SAM-Klang propose un défi de circonstance en proposant un niveau de chant légèrement plus élevé que dans la version SATB originale. À certains endroits, une subtile redistribution des entrées vocales dans les sections polyphoniques a été nécessaire. Being such a prolific composer, particularly for Vocal and Piano works, Gabriel Fauré's music is always addressed with high expectations. His Le Chanson D'Éve for Voice and Piano accompaniment is no exception. Fauré (1845-1924) began receiving high quality musical instruction from age 10 at the Niedermeyer School. He eventually became a piano pupil of Camille Saint-Saëns. Fauré's career saw him succeed Théodore Dubois as organist at the Church of Madeleine in Paris and become professor of composition at the Paris Conservatoire, all the while composing sublime works. His song cycle Le Chanson D'Éve was composed between 1906 - 1910. As Fauré's longest song cycle, Le Chanson D'Éve is made up of ten melodies based on poetry by Charles Van Lerberghe. With Fauré's music remaining hugely popular to this day, Le Chanson D'Éve is a favourite for the vocal repertoire.
